Hi Florian

So good to finally hear back from someone.
Yes, I would love to have a copy of your family tree, not sure how this could be done through this notice board.
I also have a hand drawn family tree which was made by my father Helmuth von Kujawa in 1976. This tree goes back to 1639.
According to the tree my grandfather William, your great-great grandfather Leo Max Bruno and Oscar were brothers.
Your grandfather Roland was born on 23.8.1935. Is this correct?
I also have a high res colour scan of the family tree my father produced and also a colour scan of the "von Kujawa" family crest.
Be happy to send both of them to you as well.

Regards
Uta Hoffmann (geb. von Kujawa)

Hello,

my name is Florian Ibold. My grandfather was called Roland von Kujawa, the grandson of Bruno von Kujawa (the brother of Oscar).

We have an original family tree on paper which was made by Bruno von Kujawa in the year 1939. It also contains a map of the location of the former castle of the von Kujawa family, which is very interesting.

If you want i can send to you as a high resolution scan? :)

best
Florian

This is a very interesting thread. My name is Cynthia Bielec McDonald and I have been researching my Bielec family tree for 3 years now. I'm wondering if my family branch is part of this Bielec thread.... My grandfather, Jan Bielec, was born in Dynow (which is only about 2-3 miles from Ulanica) - at least that is what the passenger list indicates. He immigrated to the US in 1913 and settled in Pittsburgh, PA. Jan Bielec's parents were Marcin Bielec and Tekla Gasecka both from Dynow area. Jan Bielec married Katarzyna Glod about 1918 and had 2 children: Mary Ann Bielec and Edward Bielec (my father). They lived in the Pittsburgh area until his untimely death from pneumonia in 1921. Do any of you in this thread recognize any of the names in my description? Has anyone tried writing to the parishes in Poland for birth and marriage documents? If so, I'd like to know how you went about it. Thanks for any help.

there's a good chance the Michael Bielec you speak of is my father. born in and a long time resident of Detroit, he's 91 now and living outside of Pt Huron, MI. I'll be traveling up in a couple of weeks to visit and celebrate my mom's 90th birthday.

I had planned to talk to them about my paternal grandparents' emmigration from Poland around 1915. I do know my grandfather, Frank Bielec, spent some time as a lumberjack up in the northern lower penninsula. I'll let you know what I find out.

Miles Bielec
Carolina Beach, NC

Andrew was married 4x in Poland, never immigrated. First wife, Mary Rogowska, my great grandmother, then Victoria, Katarczyna, and Agata. His wives kept dying (along with their babies). He had 15 kids, 6 died soon after birth. Only 5 immigrated.
Send me a message at home if you need more info.
What was your great grandmother's name? In my gr. gr. Grandmother's obit it lists a surviving brother with the first name of Andrew...but the last name Wagner. Not sure how one child was Wagner and the others Maciejczyk (or whatever)unless there were different fathers, of course. I'm finding that old obits are not all that reliable in their spellings so it's hard to take a piece of info and run with it.
Thanks for your reply. Let me know if you have any Wagner's too!

Hi,

My family originated in Bialy Kamien and migrated away around the end of the 19th century. We have a few family members who have built an amazing tree and there is a very early family member we know as Melamud, but that could easily be Melamid. My mothers name was Parnes and the family tree we have built is for the Parnes family.

Help in Breslau(?)

Looking for help when I'm not entirely sure where the family came from and what their exact names were. Some records I've found say Breslau, some just say Germany. Nationality is listed as either German or Polish. I'm not sure where to start since I have so may spellings of the last names. The only thing I'm sure of is first names and some dates.

The first is:

Paulina b: 12 Apr 1847. Last name could be:
Maciyczyk
Maciejczyk
Mazazik
Maciescyk
Maceceak
Maciecyck
Mertz
Machewechb
Machiewecth
Mascyczyk
Macacek
Maisrysryk
Matizek
Miaonki

Paulina's death record lists her father as Jas or Jos Matizek, and mother unknown. But this info was given by her youngest daughter. Paulina had sisters: Victoria, Agnes, Anna..another who's name I don't know and two brothers.

Her husband may have been from the same area. Adolph b: 2 Sep 1844 His last name is either:
Woynar
Woyner
Weinar
Weiner
Woinar
Woiner
Wojoiner

Any ideas on how to hone in?
My mother was born in Karpniki in 1958. She came to the states in the early 70's and her family in Poland became a mystery. My grandmother refused to mention anything from Poland and wouldn't even let my mother see her original birth certificate so that the father's name would never be revealed.

We're looking for church in Karpniki that my mother remembers going to as a child. The nuns there took care of her sometimes because the family was poor. She remembers walking over a bridge to get there.

Does anyone have an information on the church's in Karpniki or the names Krzczanowicz or Dubicka? I'm hoping to make contact and hopefully find some information into our family.

Thank you
Michelle

As for Dubicka/Dubicki, there are about a thousand in Poland...so I was hoping to find a connection on here.
Thanx.

The book by Heinrich Hensoldt is fiction. He claimed in the mid-1890s to have visited Ceylon and India, but was soon discredited. Hensoldt was originally from Wetzlar, Germany, a son of Moritz Wetlar, a well known maker of microscopes and telescopes. He may have based his information on Warkus from actual knowledge, but I wouldn't trust him. Sorry, and good luck with your hunting.

Copies of this documantation suppose to be in Swidnica Diocesan Archive.

It all depands on what exact information you would like to obtain. The only problematic thing might be the fact that in dolnoslaskie province there are 3 different places called Nowa Wies. Do you have some more documentation which might lead to "the right" Nowa Wies?

I done some research in Wroclaw Archdiocesan archive lately and I think i might help you anyway.

Just write me on: borowiec@yourrootsinpoland.com

Good luck in your researches!

Kinga

Hi Alvin

Have come across your query as above. I am also attempting to trace my ancestry, particularly descendants in Europe. I have the following info to share:

Eduard (Ernst) Warkus (aged 23), arrived in British Kaffraria (now Eastern Cape), South Africa, from Breslau onboard the "Sultana" in 1857. He enlisted as a Private in the 5th Light Regiment which formed part of the German Legion Military settlers to this region. His occupation on enlistment is that of a baker & his next of kin is listed as Josf? Warkus in Breslau. Ernst married Louisa Fick (part of the German Agricultural settlers of 1858) & settled in King William's Town, South Africa. I am a direct descendant of Ernst.

I trust you may find the above of interest. Please contact me if you have any other information that may assist me in my search.

Amanda Geldenhuys (nee Warkus)
andregeld@telkomsa.net

Warkus family Breslau

Hello,

I am trying to trace the Warkus line in Breslau (Wroclaw). I have traced a distant relative born there in 1801. His name was John Godfried Warkus.

In a book writen by a Professor H. Hensoldt "Zwei Jahr in Ceylon" written in 1879 Professor Hensoldt mentions Mr. Warkus being born in Breslau, Silesia and that in his younger years he had been a servant to a wealthy Cuirassier (mounted cavalry soldier) officer of his regiment. He moved to Ceylon around 1844.

I would appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction concerning finding information in Wroclaw of the early 1800's?

Regards,
Alvin Wick (Sweden)

Greetings,
I read your short paragraph and I was surprised that one of your ancestors was born in gnaderfrie Prusia today's Pilawa Gorna Poland. I like to let you know that this is the town that I was born as well and spent my childhood living there.

Warm wishes,
Cliff

I am looking for anyone who might have been in the same family as the "Norman Titze" that was married to my Aunt Dora. They lived in the St. Paul area. I have all of Aunt Dora's pictures and many of them are of people who where probably related to Uncle Norm.

I am glad to give these pictures to anyone who might be related to him and interested in having the pictures.

Hi . My name is Savannah Bielec. I am 17 years old. And as I was looking up stuff about my heritage I happened to come across this. I have learned from my father & grandmother that my name is Polish. And obviously the name Bielec is very rare so when I come across someone else with the name I peak interest. I live in Florida. But my father & his family are from Michigan. My father was born in Michigan & moved to florida when he was 9 . Yall keep talking about Michigan , so to me it all seems weird that your ancestors came from poland to michigan and so did mine. I dont know much about my culture or where my ancestors came from and would like to know.

Thank you for your quick reply. Researching family roots is so very interesting - especially when you have only fragments of information with which to work. While I wrote that my grandmother went to Boyne Falls to visit a relative, I see on the ship's manifest that her initial destination when she first arrived was Boyne Falls. MI. I had always believed that she came straight to Detroit, Mi to stay but apparently that wasn't the case.

I spoke to my mother again yesterday and while she still couldn't remember a name, she did say that my grandmother, Katarzyna, went to visit her mother's sister - that would have been her aunt, in Boyne Falls.

Yes my Grandfather Lawrence did pass away in Boyne Falls, MI. The year would have been around 1940 as my Dad recalls being 11 yrs old (born in 1928). If the grave marker is the correct one....it should be a rectangular shape about 4inches high....of dark gray granite....I don't recall the date on it as the marker was placed some years following his death by my Mom and Dad....they were married in 1954 so the actual death date had been forgotten.....and the original death & cemetery records had been lost to a fire some years previous.

Im from Flint, MI and still live here....my info is as follows:

Thomas K. Bielec
2430 Nolen Drive
Flint, MI. 48504
810.241.7862 - Cell
ptrade21@gmail.com
