Klara & Frank were my grandparents. Baby stephanie died, possibly in the influenza pandemic of 1918. My dad always claimed his mom was laboring with him in one room while his sisters were dying in the other. Frank died some time in the 1920's, I believe he was run over by a horse cart/buggy or automobile.
My grandparents left a daughter behind in Poland or Austria or wherever named Anna who later came to the US in 1959 or so. I know klara maiden name was Bis and that she had a sister named Josephine. But my recollection of Josephine was that she lived in Canada as I remember visiting the Montreal Expo in 1967 (I was a toddler or so) and we visited relatives in Canada.
Klara and Frank had 8 children in the US that survived into at least their 50s or 60s. Most succumbed to cancer or heart attacks. My understanding was klara who died before I was born, had died of a heart attack.
What I love most is that Sroka means blackbird and depending on who you talk to this is a positive or negative last name -- I think it quite nice!
My father was raised Roman Catholic but is there a chance that the Srokas were Jewish or the Bis'?
