Surnames: murcek, kowalska, kowalski
I am searching for my maternal line. My mother was first generation American and her name was MURCEK. We were told they were Austrian however my grandparents' naturalization papers listed them as Polish. Is the name known as one or the other? Did the name have a Z in it? MURCZEK? or MURZCEK? My mother's mother's name was KOWALSKA (the feminine of her father's name KOWALSKI). I believe the feminine usage is normal and that her name is a Polish name. Is that correct or were these names used throughout the "area" as in over the political borders in nearby countries? Thank you.
