I see you are researching relatives with the name "Porinchak".<br>My last name is Porinchak. It's a fairly uncommon name, and most likely Porinchak's are related. The original spelling was<br>"Porhincak" with an accent mark over the "c".<br>My ancestors came from Secovce, in Slovakia, then part of Austria Hungary. They're nationality was Slovak, but they were actually "Rusyn", a eastern Slavic people similar to but distinct from the Ukrainians. Ruskov references the population of Velky Ruskov being largely inhabited by Rusyns.<br>Some of my ancestors from the same area were German, also.<br>Feel free to get in touch, I'd love to compare geneology.

Greek catholic records for Krcava?

Does anyone know which Family History Library film contains Greek Church records (covering mid-late 1800s) for the village of Krcava, SK (Karsava, AH), south of Sobrance. A search of "Greek Catholic Sobrance" on FHL gives many possibilities (but no mention of Krcava) - is my best bet to simply try the films of the closest towns listed (ie Vyšne Nemecké?). <br>Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Mick. I just spoke to my mother and she said that they used to call some family in neighbor village Stvoritel and Digon. So we must be related after the same grand grand parents Michal Harcarik and Maria Stvoritely-Dzigony. I heard from George Gondzur that one of the sisters did not get married, that she was a nun. I wish I could see whole family tree of them. Please let me know.<br>Mikey

In october 2004 I visited family of Gondzur living in Westville Ilinois and George said that his mother was Marja Harcarikova from Babie and confirmed to me that she had other 3 sisters Elizabeth but cant remember other names. I still have no contacts with any of the family. I live in Slovakia,Kracunovce-Giraltovce and my mother is born Harcarikova from babie. The small house in Babie of out grand parents is still there.

My grandmother, Mary Harcarik b.1879, had sisters Ann b.1881, Susanna (Susie)b.1886, and Elizabeth,(Lizzie)b.1891 who were all born in either Babie or Giraltovce. Elizabeth's obituary said she had four sisters but didn't name them. So there might have been five girls. There was also a brother Michael who stayed in Slovakia. Their parents were Michael Harcarik and Mary Tomascik. Could they be any relation to your aunt? Or does your aunt know the family? Thanks for any information.

What I do know is that the name in Slovakia was "Polascak". When they came to the US in 1892 the name got changed to Polaski. I don't know who changed it, but so far I can't find Polascak relatives in Slovakia that he migght have decended from. Is it possible that he was previously Polish and went to find work in the Opal mine of Chevinica Sk in the late 1800's. I have no other ancesterys past 1870's from Slovakia that I have found, Yet. I will see if I have other info I can get for you. Thanks

They changed their name when they arrived, but later (40yrs) changed it back to Polaschak. The parents went back to Slovakia in about 1925. Thanks Joe

Shaluta. He married Annabell Liller and had two sons, Clifford and Pride Allen (my birth father). I was not raised in the family, so I have little information other than a few names and that the family left Russia during the Bolshivic revolution... Haven't been able to verify this as yet.

I have found that the Micko name has been in a village called Ujazd and Skalka nad Vahom, not too far from Trencianska Tepla. There are still some living there. I have just ordered films from Family History Center for the church registries from these towns. I have gone back to Jan Micko b. abt 1860 m. Anna Jankovcova. If you are still interested, when I get the films I can look for branch. There's a possibility that there's a connection. Joseph is a "well-used" name in our family. Who knows, my Jan could be a brother of your Joseph.<br>

He emigrated to Johnstown PA to work in the coal mines in 1912 and seveal years later married Barbara Galayda. In researching him, I have found a Mary and Andrew Wagaszki in Johnstown and suspect they were related to my husband's grandfather (probably a generation later than your Mary and Andrew). They lived close to Conamaugh in East Taylor township and are buried in Cambria County.
