Hi Stephen,

Some further information.
Edward Croasdaile died in 1857. According to his will he left his Coffee plantations called "Grove" in St Davids and St Thomas to his grand nephew David Mignot.

There are some returns of slaves online from 1817, 1826 and 1832.
The 1817 return lists 22 men and 23 women by name.
The 1826 return summarises a total of 25 men and thirty five women.
The 1832 return summarises a total of 65; 4 births and 5 deaths since the previous return.

The 1817 one details the colour of each (e.g. Negro, D Negro, Sambo(?), and whether each was "African", "Creole" or "D (?) African" Below is a link to them

Hi Stephen

The Edward Croasdaile to whom I refer was born in Jamaica. He trained as a doctor in Edinburgh (Scotland). I'm assuming he was white. According to my research he died in France in 1856, although according to this http://jamaicanfamilysearch.com/Samples/AL40David.htm an Edward Crosdaile owned land at St David's in 1840. I have no information on the children (if any) of Edward Croasdaile, so have no idea if he was your ancestor.

In the other reference I wonder if any of those Croasdailes were black. The (white) Croasdailes were wealthy land (and slave) owners, so I think it unlikely that they would be renting land. 1839 is post abolition of slavery, so it could be that these were freed slaves.

Thanks for the info. There could be a possible connection to my tree as my G.G-grandfather Thomas Croasdaile was from Scotland. I have been trying to find records of any Croasdaile travelling to Jamaica from Scotland, but have not been successful. Not sure if I mentioned that my GG grandfather had two families one black and one white.

Some additional Croasdaile information:

In 1798 Edward Croasdaile (then resident in Scotland) applied for compensation for giving up 60 slaves in Jamaica. http://www.ucl.ac.uk/lbs/project/scottishdata.pdf. His father, Richard, died in 1798. Slavery wasn't abolished until 1833, so this implies that there was compensation available before this.

There are references to legal disputes in 1839 featuring Thomas Croasdaile, Charles Croasdaile and E Croasdaile (a woman). The Croasdaile appear to be renting land. See link here:

The links to Jamaica in my family are, to the best of my knowledge, as follows:

Richard Croasdaile born about 1740 (don't know where), married Elizabeth Sandes in Sept 1775. They had several children, as follows:

Despard Croasdaile b 1776, Kingston
Lancelot Croasdaile, b 1778, Kingston, died in Ireland (my ancestor)
Edward Croasdaile, b abt 1775 (Probably in Jamaica; he was a doctor, studied at Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities)
Elizabeth Croasdaile, born abt 1782.
Mary Croasdaile, b April 1784
Henry Croasdaile, b 1785, died in Ireland
Thomas P Croasdaile b abt 1786
Edwina Croasdaile, b abt 1788
Richard Croasdaile, b abt 1790
Catherine Croasdaile, b abt 1793
George Croasdaile, b 1797, died in Ireland.

Of these, I only have knowledge of Lancelot's descendants, all of whom were born in Ireland.

So Richard Croasdaile appears to have settled in Jamaica some time before 1775. It would be interesting to find out if he married in Jamaica, or was married before he went out.

Other links I've found are reports of a Croasdaile memorial in the church at Half-way Tree in Kingston. I think this relates to another sub-branch, namely:

Henry Croasdaile, b about 1660.
He had a number of children, one of whom was
Henry Croasdaile, b abt 1694
He in turn had a son, also called
Henry Croasdaile, b 1720 in Westminster (London). I think he died in Jamaica in 1770. See this link refering to a memorial in St Andrews Church, Half-way Tree, Kingston.

To answer your (Stephen's) question, I have a Thomas Croasdaile born around 1830 who may be your GG grandfather. According to the entry, his profession was Custom House Officer, but I have no citation for this.

I have no idea where any of them resided in Jamaica, but I think it's safe to assume that they were wealthy people making money in various possibly unsavoury ways. Maybe the fact that they appear to have returned to Ireland suggests that they found the ways of slavery too unsavoury.

The Croasdailes that are related to me settled in place called Friendship, Aenon Town, Clarendon in Jamaica. My GG grandfather was Thomas Croasdaile. My branch of the Croasdailes came from Ireland, and also spent time in Jamaica. My GG grandfather was the last of my ancestors to be born in Ireland; the family settled in Rosenallis, Queens County (Now Co. Laois) where they had a large mansion.

It appears that the family originated in Lancashire, near Slaidburn. One branch went to America with William Penn, another went to Ireland.

I have just found this post, so will give what info I have.

Some of my Croasdaile ancestors went to Jamaica, but earlier than 1800.

Richard Croasdaile was born about 1740. His children were as follows:
Despard, born 1776, Kingston
Lancelot, born 1778, Kingston
Edward, born about 1775 (he was a doctor)
Elizabeth, Mary, Henry (an army officer), Thomas, Edwina, Richard, Catherine, George.

Not many of this generation died in Jamaica, so it appears that they moved to Ireland and Britain.

If you need more details, please let me know. If any of these mean anything to you, please let me know.

I learned that Charles middle name was Alexander. His parents were Edgar Lockwood and Frances Bailey.

My great-grandmothers maiden name was Brooks she married and became a Bertram. In speaking to my sister I found out that we have the name McField(s) connected to us as well. She's looking into the Mezas. In looking at other threads here for Honduras a user suggested another user look into the Bay Islands Genealogy Group on Yahoo. I'm going to give it a try and see what happens!

Pedro & Maria Anita immigrated to the Hawaiian Islands from British Honduras between 1911 and 1912 with their six children: Lucita Gregoria, Florita Vargas, Joaquim Santos, Nina, Victor Manuel & Eliseo Fontes.

Pedro, born about 1865, was a native of Santa Izabel, Boa Vista, Cape Verde and passed away in Los Angeles, Ca in 1946. Maria Anita, born about 1874, a native of Belize, British Honduras passed away in Maui, Hawaii in 1930.

I have successfully connected Pedro in Hawaii with his older brother, Manuel Joaquim Pereira of Kauai. There may be other siblings using the Pereira or Perry name.

For years I have been trying to build my family tree. The initial information you provided in your post, is greatly helpful, except for the name of the adopted family, which I have been told that it is not Penus, but Pinet. How do I know this, well, my father is the son of Lillie, daughter of Rosaline Pinet Anderson. And yes, they all died on the mainland. My grandmother's full name was Pearl Leonela Davis Pinet, aka Lillie.
Just like you, I'm trying to investigate more about the Anderson's Family, but all I've been told is that there are some in Tela.

my mother said the Teruel lived in Tierra blanca,,, Saint Nicolas of Santa Barbara... they were very nice with my grandmother,,, they will give her limas, mangoes, sugar cane and my mother mentioned they had cattle. I hope this helps.

My aunt, Olga (V.) Rivera, was born in "La Ceiba,Sp./ Honduras" on 13 February 1925, according to the immigration record on ancestry.com. Her parents were Mercedes or Mignonette Campbell and Jaime Santiago Rivera, whose d.o.b. were 7 Sep. 1902 and 25 July 1898 respectively, in PR. My aunt was 3 years old when they brought her and her brothers to the U.S. through New Orleans, LA on 12 Jan. 1929. But they were placed in foster care and into an orphanage school in NY until they graduated so their parents are a mystery to her.
Olga had her birth certificate stolen from her not too long ago and would like to get another one. How can she get a certified copy of her birth certificate from Honduras? Your reply will be greatly appreciated.

My aunt was born in (British) Honduras in Jan. 1925 in the Rivera family of Jaime and Mercedes. They had Oswald (Asbaldo),Rolando, Olga, and Eugene (Ojemio). They were each 1-2 years apart. The mother, Mercedes, is said to have died at childbirth with Eugene, and the father, Jaime, brought or sent the children to USA, New York, by way of New Orleans, LA, to go to an orphanage called Little Flower House of Providence on L.I.
Does this family sound familiar to anyone searching in any of these countries or the Rivera family?
Can you tell me how to search of a birth certificate in Honduras???

Hi. My family line goes back to Belize also. My great-grandfather is Charles Lockwood. I thought his ancestors had roots to Ireland but it could be Scotland. I don't know who Charles parents were. Maybe he & Alexander are related somehow? Do you know the names of Alexander's children or brothers?
