Help Find My Brother -- Chasisk/Chezick LEANOWICZ

In 1943 Eugenia Leanowicz went to Poland then on to Germany where she met a US Army soldier and after a marriage they moved to the United States. She left behind in Minsk her younger brother born about 1929. His first name in English sounds like Chasisk or Chezick. Their parents were Franz Leanowicz (sometimes spelled Leonowitsch or Leonowitch or Leonovitch) and mother Maria Juskewitsch. Eugenia said her brother may have been forced to join the army in 1943. Afer leaving her home in Minsk she never heard from him again. She now resides in a nursing home in Kentucky (U.S.) and longs to know what became of her brother whether dead or alive. Her family lived on the island with 35 other families- and there was a manor there at one time.

I see a lake named "Zaslavskaya Vodoschovysce" (sp). It has at least two islands. Are they inhabited?

Thank you,

Ceil

Researching members of the LACOV family, likely from Borisov, or elsewhere in the Minsk gub. Jacob and Fanny (KOPIZKY) had seven children. Two of the siblings - Isadore and Sarah - migrated to France. One, Joseph, migrated to the U.S. (Eventually, most of the family moved to New York).

Some evidence seems to indicate that the name was originally some variation of Lachowitsky. (Sarah is listed as "Leravisky" and others are Lacow, Luckoff, etc.)

The LACOV family intermarried with the BRODY and BLOCK families, also from Minsk. They also moved to the U.S.

Any information about these families?

Hello Olga,
I am searching for birth entries for Fedor P Logovik, Sam P Logovik 1891/3 and perhaps a Peter.
The spelling of the name has many forms. ie Logovich and others.
I understand Fedor (Frederick's) parents were Peter and Daria. I do not know yet if Sam is Fred's brother.
There may have been other siblings.
On one document Fred's birth year is 1896 but that may not be correct if he was in the army before 1914 as he would be too young.
Fred and Sam have listed their birth places as Zaslav.
Fred joined the army somewhere before 1914. I understand he may have been in the Across Amur Railroad Brigade as we have a photo of him in uniform. .

I was wondering if anyone had access to any records that may help with this family.
Hope you can help.
Glenda
Australia

Seeking info about Michael Cooper. Don't know if name used Don't know if was name in Russia. Immigrated to the US in 1885.. Believe he may have entered US through Philadelphia. Minsk is mentioned as birthplace. Someone suggested Drohitchen. Is this a district in Russia? Unfortunately, Michael's family has no information on him. All that we now know was obtained by my searching census records and death certificates. Nobody kept records of his naturalization.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am searching for this info for my grandchildren. Michael is their ggggrandfather.

David & Isidore Rakoff/Rakopehzik-Minsk-Canada-New York-Anyone Have A Connection

Hello All

I am seeking any and all information on my great-grandfather(maternal) David Rakoff and his brother Isidore Rakoff(great-great-uncle). They were born in minsk according to immigration papers I have on both of them. Isidore was born in 1887, not sure of the month but it might be february. David was born between the years 1881-1884 in either june or july. They came to canada first and then from there boading trains to take them to New york. Isidore came in 1916 under the name of Israel Rakopehzik. David came in june of 1917. David married Anna Mendelson in 12/18/1921 in Brooklyn, New york. They had two kids Ruth(1922) & Murray(1923). Ruth was my grandmother who recently past on 2/20/2006. Faikes was her married name. Her brother died in 10/16/2001.

Isadore died in june 13 of 1938 in Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. When he came over he left 4 kids behind in minsk. Sonia, Ben, Helen/Hannah, & Samuel. I believe also the wife Bernice also had died young in minsk. The kids were not sent for until about 1925-1930 and he came over in 1916. I have heard stories from cousins that he had remmarried and had more children, but I have not found a record to confirm that since i do not know the name of the second wife.

If anyone has any information please contact me.

Hello,
My grandfather was born in November of 1896 in the Minsk region, we don't know exactly where. He had female relatives named Pauline and Barbara. He went to Krackow, Poland then Germany, finally emmigrating on a whaling boat in 1915 with his cousin. His cousin died en route. He ended up in Chicago where his suitcase and family pictures were stolen. His next destinations were Albuquerque, NM, Devils Lake, ND, then Fargo, ND where he worked at the Veteran's Administration Hospital. He died in 1967. He was a practicing Roman Catholic. Is anyone familiar with this last name or something very similar?

Thanks!
Samantha
