I knew both your grandparents , and I know they both passed away in Florida. My mother was married to your grandmothers brother Branko Cerineo, Xenia (Another Xenia). I am her son nicolas Kossenko. Sorry I do not have any info on your grandfather. I hope your parents are fine --- I did meet two daughters when Branko was married and we all met in Manhasset. At that time I was 13 years of age.
Good Luck - to all.
I'm looking for information on Ivo Tutic who died at the Jasenovac Concentration Camp in Bosnia during WWII. He was born about 1888. His son was Mile Tutic married to Mara Vukovic. I'm looking to find out how he died. I would love to know his wife's name as well as his parents names. I think his father was Joso Tutic. Thank you for any information.

1930 KS census indicates John was from Jugoslavia.

His original surname spelling would have been MARKOVIC' with a mark over the C' giving the sound of CH. This is a patronymic name, that is from the male given name Marko and the IC ending meaning son of, literally Markson.

Given name would not have been John (originally that is) it could have been Johann, Ivan, Ivo, Ive, Janko or Jovo or if the name was Hungarianized it could have been Janos.

Since they most likely would have been of the same ethnicity, I suspect that Mary was not Mary but Maria, Marija and her last name may have begun with BRK, maybe BRKIC or some other name derived from the Croatian word brk, meaning moustache. I find many records in MO and KS for names beginning with BRK... oh and it is perfectly OK for what appear to English speakers as 3 consonants... as the R serves the purpose of a vowel in this case.

Robert Jerin
Croatian Heritage Museum
Cleveland Ohio

Are you certain he died at Jasenovac? Are you finding this at the Jasenovac web page? If so they do have a "hard to find" disclaimer which reads

" This list, which is fully accessible here to the public for the first time, lists over 647,000 war fatalities over the territory of wartime Yugoslavia."

So in short this is NOT a list of people killed at Jasenovac but may include them.

The list contains 647,000 names, but does not appear to include those who were summarily executed by the communists after the war into the 1950s.

Robert Jerin
Croatian Heritage Museum
Cleveland Ohio

There are reocrds for several George VULETICH in the US. But one listed in Lead So Dak listed his father as Louis, stating he was from Hercegovina and born in Turkey. However Turkish rule of Bosnia-Hercegovina ended in 1878

George would not be a Croatian spelling.. it would be Jure, Gjuro... of which there are several in US immigration records.

Also Louis is not a Croatian spelling, sometimes Aloisija is translated to Louis. Bozo is from the word for God, Boze... may be translated as Theodore... Mato is correct.. the Croatian Language does not use double consonants US records find several Bozo and Mato/Matt VULETICH.

Before you can begin to find info you need to know exactly where your George was from.

Robert Jerin
Croatian Heritage Museum
Cleveland Ohio
I am trying to find information about my grandfathers relatives. His name was Mate Culjak born Sept. 25, 1888 with a mothers maiden name of Grbavac. The last place of residence before coming to the US looks to be Vojnici or Vojnic, Austria at the time. This was in 1906. Thanks

Kotromanić does not show a daughter Maria :o( there is written only about the daughters Katharina and Elisabeth - "Eine Maßnahme in diese Richtung war die Heirat seiner Tochter Katharina (* 1336, † 1396) mit dem mächtigen Grafen Hermann I. von Cilli.
possibility:
it looks like from time she "maybe" was a sister of
Elizabeth Kotromanic, which was born around 1340 and was murdered 16 July 1387 at castle Novigrad near Zara/Dalmatien, buried in Zara (today name is Zagreb), she was daugther of king Stefan II.
I'm very happy to contact with you. Last week I found my last name in
some pages in the Internet and I decided to know more about my
ancestries. I surprised my father with this notice. Always we think
that all "Culjak" were in Europe but I found it some possible
relatives in USA and Australia.
Yesterday I received notices from Ivan Culjak, he live in Zagreb and
his family is divided in Slavonia (eastern Croatia) and USA. He told
me that the origin of Culjak is Bosnia and Hertzegowina but we (for he
and me) are from Croatia but he also hear from some Culjaks from
Serbia.
My grandfather Martin Culjak born in a place near of Klobuc
in 1910s . When he was 18 he traveled alone to Argentine by ship.
There he married and he had four children.
My father visited that place some years ago. He meets cousins and
their families. I don't remember their names but I will ask to my
father.
Cordially,

Leonardo Culjak.

Škrljevita was a Croat populated village near Sanski Most in NW Bosnia. In the recent war the village was literally erased off the face of Earth. There was a massacre of Škrljevita locals 1992 when 10 of men was executed, 3 of them were named Tutić.
http://www.biskupija-banjaluka.org/TABB/SLIKE/sasina5studeni...

Those that survived the war are today scattered all over, mostly in Croatia. I found that one of survived Škrljevita folks is today a priest in Đakovo, Croatia. Perhaps he will know some answers for you, the name is Drago Tukara.
drago.tukara@gmail.com

If you'll need assistance with translation to Croatian, email me: rokostrinic@hotmail.com

http://klobuk.info/

Where we they from? Are you sure they were from Bosnia? Please be more specific.

Vuletic and Matic surnames are found in both Croatia and Bosnia within close proximity to one another.

In the Croatian region of Dalmatia, you can find the Vuletic and Matic families in close proximity to one another (Vuletic in Dobranje and Matic in Kamensko). Both villages are located near the border with Bosnia-Hercegovina).

Just across the border, you can also find Vuletic and Matic members in Kazaginac and Liskovaca, respectively.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Ivan
