Hey from Oz.
Very interesting what you told me. I remember asking my father when he was alive, what are the origins of the name Ivkovic. Silimar to you he too said that it was originally Ivko.....and that the ic meant 'son of'.
As to your query about my mother. Spoke to my sister who reminded me that our mother's family Stankovic, in the 1600th century with six other families originated in the area Herzogovinia ( not sure of spelling) and left to escape the invading Turks. They were led to the area called Vojvodina what is now the area of Novi-Sad. As I previously have said there is a famous Serbian national painting commemorating this event. Apparently this was a large movement of people.
All this is fascinating and reawakening my curiosity about the past of our families and Slavic race. Nice to share all this info with you. All the best for 2013.
From Oz. John Ivkovitch
