Dear Betty,
During the early 90s, I lived in Greece for 4 years. I had a very good friend, Lida Kanavou ( female version of Kanavos). Her father, Ioannis Kanavos (he must be over 75, by now), was from Neohori (which indeed means new village), few kilometers away from Tripoli. Ioannis had a secondary house in Neohori where I happened to be invited few times for Christmas or Easter holidays. Lida had an uncle and cousins living in the US.
Her father, Ioannis was very knowlegeable about the history of the Kanavos family. If you think it can help, I can mal you Ioannis' phone number in Athens, so you can see what you can learn from him about your family.
