I have hand-written records of my grandfather's birth certification and my great-grandfathers' death certificate that belonged to my grandfather. These are written in old Romanian. About 20 years ago I found someone who could translate the documents for me.

I would like to find out if there are any more pertinent official records still available after all these years. I know that the chances of this could be slim. Even more slim is the fact that I am unable to travel there to search on my own.

How does one proceed when problems like this present themselves?

Are any records such as these every transcribed or scanned in to computer systems now?

Clueless... All help will be gratefully accepted!
Therefore his father must have arrived from Romania.
Thank you

Hi,
I am also looking for information. My great-grandmother, Anna Henner, had Smalovitch (also found spellings for Smulovitch and Smilovitch) as her maiden name. Her mother's name was Hannah and they immagrated from Romania. It appears that her father's name may have been Meyer. They lived in Chicago, IL as early as 1900 (Anna and Hannah are on the Chicago 1930 census).

thank you

Hello Naomi,
Thank you for your response. I know nothing about my great grandfather, Bernard. I don't know the names of his parents or whether he had any sisters or brothers. He did have a son, Max who shortened his last name to Alter after he came to the US. I found his death certificate with his last name Alter. My great grandmother (Bernard's wife) was named Etle/Yetta. Her parents were Michael Strisand/Strarsand and Rebecca Cohen.

One of Bernard and Yetta's dauaghter, my great aunt was the only one who filed for US citizenship. It was on her papers that I found that she was born in Bacu and last place of residence before emigrating was Brailia, Romainia.

On my great anut's naturalization papers, it shows that she was born in Bacu, Romania in 1892. Is this the same city as Bacau? I am trying to find information on the Alteresko family - also spelled Alterescu. She had a brother, Max who changed the spelling of his last name to Alter. This may have been the original name of the family. The father's name was Bernard.
Does anyone have Alterescu in their family line?

Hi, Unfortunately the president of the JCC who helped me so much passed away and I have been unable to reestablish a connection. He was a wonderful man and extremely helpful. I guess the best be is to just go to the JCC and try your luck. I would be interested in hearing about your trip when you return.

There are two cemeteries you might ask the JCC to help you visit and there is a death registry that the JCC keeps. I found 35 possible family members. I photographed their head stones. The newer cemetery has a memorial to those that perished in the Holocaust and the story behind it is awful. They will tell it to you when you visit.

Have a good trip.
Barry

All I know is I have a brother who was born to Rivka Rotbaum in Bacau, Romania but was adopted by a Jewish family called Grat (exact spelling not known) as a baby. The Grat family left for Israel in the late 1950's and lived in the Kiryat Gat area. He served in the Israeli Air Force. My brother immigrated to the United States - sometime in the 60's to 70's - date unknown. My brother should be approximately 56 years of age, give or take +5 years, born between 1943 -1947. If anyone knows of his whereabouts or of a person that fits a similar description, please contact me at navushe@yahoo.com or the email listed on this posting.

Thank you,
Rachel/Israel

Hi, I have a grandfather who passed early. was born in 1911 in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. Unfortunately my grandmother is ill and doesn't remember much to ask her for details. We are decendants of romania that much is all I no. Getting to that romanian heritage is the problem. I've been told the name BADEA is as common as Smith & Jones in the US. I did come upon a picture in the early 70's of a Concert Violinist named Christian Badea who was the spitting image of my late second cousin, they could have been twins when you saw the two pictures side by side. Please help.

Her parents were Jasa Ciric and Sida (nee Nicolich). Rada "Ralph" Ardelyan (formely spelled Ardelean) was her husband who became a barber in the U.S. Both are originally from the Timis region before moving to the U.S. sometime in the late 1920's or early 1930's.

Looking for anyone who knows anything about surname FEDELES. Trying to make contact with one of the many Fedeles from Romania. I have information on our surname leading to minor nobility in 1500s and a town named after us in Zakarpatska Oblast, Ukraine. Reason to believe we are all one big family.

My great-grandfather was Vasil Fedeles who came from Zarich'nye (old Drugehaza or Zaricso). Could also be from Fedelesfalva. He migrated to USA in 1911 at age 19 and married Julia Pekar then Anna Gonda. He was probably Rusyn. Mother was Maria Kelemanik and siblings were Cyril, Andrej, Maria and Viera plus others.

Even if nothing sounds familiar I want to make contact with any Romanian FEDELES. Please write.
Seeking Rita Abramovici LaFargue last known to live in France

Josef Abramovici moved to NYC and planned to bring his two children to the USA. They ended up being raised by their grandparents since he never was able to send enough money for them to come over. Those two children were Alexander and Matilde. Alexander had a daughter named Rita who married a filmaker in France whose name was LaFargue. Matilde had a daughter named Stefi last known to be living in Romania.

If anyone has any information about the whereabouts of any of these people, please let me know. I am doing this for my friend Beth who is related to them and wants to find them since she has never met them. She is going to France on July 5th to continue this search over there. Any shred of information would be greatly appreciated. She has hired geneology experts, done scads of research herself, but has had no luck to date.

Thank you very much. It would be very exciting for her to find her relatives.

yours,

Jaguar

What little I know of my family is that they came from Bucharest Romania and left after the war. They went to Israel, France, Canada, the US and supposedly South America somewhere. Some are supposedly still in all these places.

My real family name is Abramovici. Supposedly it was changed in Romania from Cohen. My father who passed away changed his name to Hyman for some reason that I do not know of.

I have an uncle and two cousins in Montreal Canada. I also have an uncle in the US somewhere IZU Abramovici. My grandmother's first name started with a M if I am not mistaken and my grandfathers name started with a T I think. My uncle in Montreal first name is Isaac but is called Keto. My father's real name was Herman Abramovici.

Unfortunately my Montreal family is not very willing to speak about the past so I am trying to find lost family on my own.

I would appreciate any help finding any relatives or possible leads.

Sincerely
Miles Hyman
mailto:miles_hyman@hotmail.com
416-739-8706
Hello Donna,

My name is Tommy Henrich. I'm also searching into my Great-Great-Grandmother's family. She was born Paraschiva Ungureanu, daughter of Theodore, granddaughter of Istodie. Her family lived in Bucovina (next to Modova) and before she came to Canada in 1899 with her husband, Procopi Axenty and their four children. Paraschiva was one of six children and left many nieces and nephews behind in Bucovina, many of whom moved south into Romania, when Bucovina was ceded to Ukraine after WWII. It's these lost branches that I seek.
