My great grand father all so was named Jordache Frank. I have lots of history. they moved to Alberta. my father has recently passed away. He would have been 81 ,his father Roy Frank would have been at least 130 but I do have some History as another Gordon Frank cousin to my father Gordon Frank had a family reunion and the records go that most of Jordaches children all got taken out except for a set of twins that passed away in Romainia and one husband stayed behind with his son so the father would have had a different name. Would be very cool to find this child of this person he would be at least 90 or more years old . Maybe we are who you are looking for.
Barbara frank
Hi,
it's a stretch, but I had an Uncle Mike Trifinov (sp) by marriage in the Regina, SK area in the 1930-1970 era. Married a Florence Nichols (Nicoich maybe). All part of the Ardelean/Ardelyan/Feldorian/Feldiorian clans. Nichols were from Constanta. Samuel, the Patriarc died in 1918 in WWI.
dalecoles@shaw.ca

Any other info you can share? My family (Degen) came from Romania, the first Degen (that I know of) arrived there from Poland in the mid 1800's and they stayed there until the late 1930's - early 1940's. They had a music store which published their own music, but I know nothing about a photo studio (I lack a lot of info about them, so if you know something, please share)

A little more info.... He was serving in the French Foriegn Legion in Morocco in April 1936 and also served in Mekme, Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire) from November 1936 to 1937. Not sure when he started his service or ended, but he was at those locations at those times. Looks like he played in a FFL band while there too, probably clarinet.

paul batisto stanculescu

Hello,

I am researching my grandfather Paul Batisto Stanculescu (born 22 May 1911 and died December 1966.) He may have Americanized his name when he came here, because I believe Paul is not a Romanian spelling of the name. He was the only one in our family (in Seattle, USA) that spoke Romanian, so after he died we lost contact with that side of the family.

All little more about him - We know his family was very involved with the church in Bucharest (or possibly nearby). And that they were very devote and even adopted several girls from the orphanage run by the church. We know he had about 12 sisters (a few were adopted) and that his mother and father had about the same number of siblings each. His father died when he was very young. He was the youngest and his favorite sisters’ name was Neli, who we think never married. He may have been in the Romanian Navy for some time.

He left Romania sometime in the late 1930's (possibly even early 1940’s). Before coming to the U.S. (first NY/Maine, then California, then Seattle), he served in the French Foreign Legion for several years in Africa, and also served in the US Merchant Marines during World War 2 for America. As far as we know, he came alone to America.

I recently got a copy of his SSI from and found that on the form he wrote his name as Paul Stanculescu Batisto (though he reversed it in later years)

Also, it shows that his fathers name was written down as Stanculescu Batisto (possibly reversed the order on the form) and his mothers name was Zanfina Stanculescu (not sure on the spelling of her first name, bad copy of form. could be Zanfira too).

Also, it seems he came from Sulee (??) Dobrugea which seems to be in eastern Romania, though I have been unable to find the village.

Also, there is the name "Stancut" floating between the line where his mothers name is and where his place of birth is listed, so this could either be another name for his mother or a village name.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Maybe from old family stories? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Ellie Stanculescu

Hello Allen,

I would love to hear anything you have found out on the Stanculescu family :) I am researching my grandfather Paul Batisto Stanculescu. He was born in 1911 and left some time in the 1930's for the US by way of the French Foreign Legion. I know he had 13 brother and sisters and that his mother and father had about the same number of sibilings each. He was the only one in our family (in Seattle) that spoke Romanian, so after he died we lost contact of that side of the family. I have reached out to government offices in Romania, but have had little luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Also, does your contact in Burcharest do this for a living or hire out thier services? If so, I might also be interested in asking for thier assistance on this if you are willing to part with the contact information? :)

Take care,

Eleanor
Hello. My name is Mason Stanculescu. My grandfather was named Paul Batisto Stanculescu, and he was born somewhere in the 1910s. If this is the same man you are (or were) looking for information on, know that he moved to Sacramento, California after serving in the French Foriegn Legion. He had 5 children with a woman named Louise Manchester from Maine. I hope we are talking of the same man, and I didn't just waste your time.

Good Luck!

-Mason Paul Stanculescu

Sorry I don't have any knowledge of a Dorothea Stengelin to help you with. My grandmothers Bertha's family settled in Monticello, Minn, where she was born. She came to Chicago where she maried my grandfather. Her father Johan Jakob came from Wurttenburg Germany and her mother Thekla Von Heydecke came from Tilsit, East Prussia. Jakob's parents were Gottfried Stengelin from Beck and Marie Barbara Martin from Wurttenburg and Gottfireds parents were Johan Jakob Stengelin and Marie Magdalene Huber

Three years have past since your posting. But I know a very good source of reference for you to follow up with. This Stengelin family settle in Wright county Minnesota in the mid 1800's (1860-70). If you contact the Wright county Historical Society, in Buffalo, Minnesota, and ask for Betty, she get you on your way. They have a web site, but I do not know the address.
Good Luck. I am looking for a Dorothea Stengelin, who I believe, married Frederic (Hellett) or Herlitz, and they had a son born in the region of Bamberg, Bavaria called Volkmannsdorf ober Franken. If anyone of you could help me with this I sure would be greatful.
Sharon

My family name is Costanza. Much like Constanta. I am trying to find out if my great great grandparents emigrated into Italy at some point. My great grandfather must have moved to the U.S. but he did so before the census was in effect; therefore there are no Ellis Island records of his arrival. He had all his children in New Jersey of which my grandfather was one of the younger ones. He was born in 1891. This is my search to find out the truth about our ancestry and real heritage. Can anyone help me or guide me in the right direction.

thank you
Debra Costanza

Hi LInda
The Pandele names in our family do not match with what you have. My great grandfather was Stephen Pandele who married Emilia Kroegel, They had 7 children. Adam (Rudolph), Joseph, Aneta, Victoria, John and twin boys who died before the age of 10. Stephen died in Europe, and Emilia and all her children came to the U,S, beginning 1902 through 1910. John, my grandfather married Ioana Chiru in Barladd before coming here. If any of these names are familiar to you, please let me know.
Thanks
Charlyene

hi Charlyene,
I do not have much info on the Pandele name, but this is what I have so far, it still has to be verified. Helene Nuske/Nusske married to Mr Pandele, possibly in the 1930's in Romania, and they had a daughter Else Pandele who may have married a Mr Winter. Helene Nusske's second marriage was to Georg Mauch born 1908 in Constanta and they had two sons, Wilhelm and Rudolf Mauch. I have some photos of some of these people, but apart from that I do not know any more about them and would like to know any information anyone may have.
thanks, Linda
My grandmother was married in Barlad in September 1909 to Johann Pandele. Do we have a possible connection?
Charlyene

My grandmother(b.1913-2000)'s maiden name was Szabo. Her mother's maiden name was Nicolitsch(b.1888-1972)They lived in a small town in Sintar & were quite wealthy. My grandfather, William Koenig, was born in 1902 in Deutschbenschek, Hungary, which became Rumania after WWI. Other family names are Eisenhoter, Hubert and Saladin.
My grandfather came to the US in 1924 & returned after getting his US citizenship to find a wife---my grandmother. She came back w/ him in 1929-30. My father, their son, was born in 1931. They were Roman catholics, but at least one member of my grandmother's ancestors/family was Eastern or Greek Orthodox. There may also be an Islamic connection,
judging by the surname Saladin. My grandfather told me he was descended from the Barons von Koenig who emigrated from the Black Forest region of Germany to Rumania/Hungary
(or Austro-Hungary, whatever it was at the time)in the 1700s.
My grandmother's family has no such claim to noble ancestry, even tho' they were quite rich & prominent in their town. My great-grandmother was allowed to leave Rumania in 1967 & lived in the US for the last 5 yrs of her life. Luckily, my grandparents lived next door to us in the house where my dad & his brother grew up. I'd like to hear from folks. Thanks!
Linda

He was born in 1911 and left some time in the 1930's there are not many Stanculescu's so maybe they are related. I know he had 13 brother and sisters and that his mother and father had about the same number of sibilings each. If you have found anything out since your posting in 1999 I would be very interested in hear it.

Take care,

Leanora
