Bora family Aita Mare?

Hi

I am seeking information on the Bora family in Aita Mare.

My GG grandmother Ida BORA was born in Aita Mare, Covasna (Nagyajta, Haromszek in our records) in the years before 1865. She seems to have moved to Sibiu with her husband Desiderius (Dezso) MIHALY.
If you have any good ideas on finding records for these relatives, I'd certainly appreciate it.
Cheers,
Liz

Dear Janos

many thanks for your reply,

Unfortunately I do not have a year of birth for her, however, she married her husband just before the First World War, straight out of university we believe. Her husband Aladar Elfer was her university professor at the University of Kolosvar before the war. This would put her at about 25 at the outbreak of the first world war in 1914, making her date of birth probably sometime in the 1880s.

She was one of three sisters, one of whom was called Ávey Dávid.

She married Aladar Elfer a year or so before the war, however we do not know where. It would either be in Covasna county or in Kolosvar, where he lived.

Her son with Aladar was my Grandfather, György Elfer who was born in Kolosvar. She divorced Aladar at some time and married Zoltan Szantó who later, upon all his property being taken by the Nazis, committed suicide. Margit died in Switzerland where her son Baláint Szantó lived.

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Kind Regards,

Jonathan Elfer

Does anyone have any information regarding the Lemenyi David Family or the Elfer Family. My great grand mother was Margit David de Lemenyi (Lemenyi David Margit) and she married Aladar Elfer (Elfer Aladar). The Town of Lemenyi is in Covasna County and is now known as Lemnia. If anyone has any information regarding the family then I would be very greatful. I attatch a crude representation of the family crest of the David de Lemenyi Family.
Many thanks,

Jonathan Elfer

I have some information regarding their life in the US since early 1900's but would like to fill in more regarding their life prior to that in Sebes, Hungary.
Hi There! So sorry that I never saw this entry from you until now. Yes, we are talking about the same people. Thelma and Phil were my grandparents. Of course, I never got to meet my grandfather since he was killed before I was born. If you still have the photo of Phil and the bus depot, I would LOVE to see it. I have started a family tree on-line under the public family Rank Family Tree. Please email me at janetventola@aim.com whenever you get this message. I would love to chat with one of my cousins. I am so happy to see that someone else is interested in our family history. Maybe with your help, I could get somewhere in my quest to fill in my tree. Janet

Hello Lazar,

My Benko's showed up in Hadikfalva, Bukovina in the 1780's. I would like to find out where they came from in Transylvania (before going to Bukovina). There were two men (brothers?) Marton, born about 1782, and Jozsef, born about 1770.

That's all I know about them so far.

I took a look at your family tree, and it looks like your line is a female one(?) If so, that is too bad, because we have a Y-DNA project, and I am looking for a Benko in Transylvania to test and compare to our Bukovina Benko's. This may be the only way to determine if all the Benko's are related.

Best Wishes,

Beth

P.S. I live in Budapest also, and if you are interested in setting up a Benko DNA project, I could help you do it.

I have actually looked in that data base and was unable to find a 100 percent positive match. Simion is a name I have come by often and have always wondered if he were connected to my family in some way. Such a rare last name as ours and he lived very close to where my family did . . . it seems too much a coincidence, but I have never been able to find out if he was a relation. My Grandfather's name was Petru. he was born May 8, 1880 and his wife Rafila was born September 26, 1882. Rafila's maiden name was Saracsen or Saracsan ( I have seen it spelled both ways in our family history books). They had eight children, but as far as I know, only the first one was born in Romania. Her name was Mariota (Mary) and she was born November 15, 1908. I was told the family moved to the U.S. when Mary was only two years old.

I was told that when my Grandfather was in the Navy during WWII, he stopped in every foreign port and looked in phone books for anyone else in the world with the last name of Mihaltian. We seem to be the only ones in our country. It is amazing for me to read your post . . . that you are a Mihaltian in Germany! My family is all from Romania. A town called Sebesul Sasasc. I know it has been too many years since any of my family has lived in Romania, but my great grandparents lived there and their names were Petru and Rafila. I know some other names in the family were Ion Muha, Niculae, Ecatarina, Saveta, Cornea, Maria, Ana, and Florica. Many of them were brothers and sisters of Petru and Rafila.

I have never seen the Mihaltian name spelled this way, but I find it fascinating! My family bible tells me that my family was from a town called Sebesul Sasasc. As far as I can resarch, I have not been able to find this town in existence anymore. I do not know if it is still there. Although, I have been told that the name Mihaltian comes from the village of Mihalt where we were named for a fish that is found in the water there. The fish is called Mihalt. I don't know if that is true or not.

Was you Mother's name Judy or Jennifer? I had a great Uncle whose name was Philip (Taofil) Mihaltian. I'm sure it is the same Philip as I know he was a pilot who passed away in an airplane accident. He was married to Thelma who was also a pilot. I heard she was the first licensed female pilot in Ohio. I have a photo of him and also one of the bus depot in Canton! If you are still on line, I would love to hear from you!

I am reseaching my grandfather, Janos Futato and his wife Zsuzsanna (Szasz) Futato. They immigrated to the United States from Magyar Hermany, Homorodi District, Udvarhely County (today Herculian, Covasna County, Romania) in September 1907. Janos was the son of Istvan and Anna (Tomincz) Futato. He was born 21 July 1882, in Magyar Hermany. Zsuzsana was born 30 April 1882, also in Magyar Hermany. They were married in Magyar Hermany on 23 May 1906. Upon his emigration, he left a brother, Istvan, and three sisters, Barbara, Anna, and Maria. I am uncertain of their religious faith (Catholic or Reformed).
Her grandfather started and owned one of the first bus companies there. Her father's name was Philip Mihaltian. He was a commerical piliot and died in an air accident in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1948 or 49, I think. She has some information that may be helpful to you.
Hi Melody,

You did not give much information about your great-grandfather (like his first name, for instance!)

There is a Simon Mihaltian on the Ellis Island database, but only you would know if he is the person you are seeking. If it is, he was born in Ohaba, Hungary, per the manifest.

The problem is, there were several different towns named Ohaba (all in present-day Romania). It would take some additional research to find out which one it is.

Beth Long
