I just received the immigration records of my ancestor John Stoika. I have 8 documents that have confusing information on them.
1. The immigration records state that he arrived May 1907 in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany. I have 2 different ship names. The Conenvile and the Koln.
I have found some info on the Koln but nothing on the Conenvile. Has anyone ever heard of this ship? Could it have been a misinterpretation due to the language barrier?
2. On the immigration records, the city that he has listed as his birth place is Wineria, Austria. It is also his last known residence before immigrating to the U.S.
I cannot find a city named Wineria in Austria, Hungary or Romania.
I also have his death certificate and a marriage certificate that says he was born in Romania and a draft card that says he was born in a city in Austria but I cannot make out the city name. My best guess is Telk Jer or Teln Jer.
I've been told that if I wish to ask the Romanian government for info on my ancestors I need to know what city or town they were from.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
