It's very difficult at this point to find your ancestors, because the state archive is colsed until the and of year. Maybe, if you know their faith/religion, we are a little bit closer to find them.
Best regards

Looking for any information on Jozsef Boros who lived/died in Transylvania and would have been born around 1900. Believed to have been married to Elisabeth and had three children - Magdolna, Jozsef and Eva. There may have been a fourth child who died.

Magdolna left for Australia in 1956 and Jozsef followed soon after. Eva remained in Hungary.

The romanian for Marcus could be "Marcu" but it looks to me, from their given names (children in special), that the Marcus family is not a romanian family.
A lot of people(Germans, Slavs, Jews) were encouraged to migrate to present day Romania (Transylvania) over the centuries (but very few are left).

I'm looking for information on the Marcus family (I'm assuming the name was Americanized, but I don't know the original).

Benjamin Marcus (1864) and his wife Rebecca Halpern Marcus (1872) emigrated from Romania with their children Morris (1891), Ray (1894), and Sadie (1896) around 1896 according to census data, although I have not found proof of their crossing or of if names were changed. After coming to their US, they had two more children, Mitchell (1898) and Jerome (1911).

Rebecca's father Hirsch Halpern (1846) emigrated in 1884 according to census data and lived with the family later on (1930), but I have not been able to find any other information on him or on Rebecca's siblings, although I believe that that she had some.

Later on, Morris married Ruth (maiden name unknown), Ray had a daughter named Marilyn who married Paul Robeson Jr., and Jerome married Helen Rotkowitz (and later became my grandparents).

I would any more information about any of my ancestors. Thanks so much!

Hukowce, Galicia - Where is it?

Am tracing my great-grandmothers (Eugenia Holyk, madian name Patkewich) passage from the Ukraine (then Austria) when she emigrated to Canada. I found her listed on the April 16 1909 ship passenger list from Hamburg to Quebec traveling on the Willehad.

The German list has her residence as "Hukowce" of Galician nationality which I know she attributed her ancestry as Ukrainian. I am sure that "Hukowce" could contain a typo and worse yet I am dealing with translating from German.

Nevertheless, anyone have a clue where this town/village may reside?

Thank you

My name is Hugh Ungeran. I got a hold of your name and email address through a friend of a friend who was researching her ancestry.

My name was originally spelled Ungerian/Ungureanu/Ungarian/Ungarian .(other versions similar ).

I am not sure if we are related, possibly some 5 or so generations back; but, I wanted to share what I know about my ancestry with you to see if it makes any connections with you.

My Grandfather who's name was Stephan Ungeran (aka Ungerian, Ungurian, Ungerian, etc) immigrated to Alberta Canada, in 1901 from the village of Bella which was in the province of Bukovina (which later became part of Austria after the Crimean war). He served in the Crimean war as a private. His wife also immigrated with him. Her name was Oleana Basaraba.

His father (my great grandfather) Jacob Ungeran immigrated the following year with his wife (also an Ungeran) whose name was Mary Ungeran. During the same year (1902) my grandfather's brothers and sisters also immigrated to Alberta. His brothers' names were Mathew (aka Matt), George, Bill and a sister Dora (who later married a Malleck). Bill served in the Crimean war for 3 years as a Corporal and thus the difference in years in which they immigrated. They had to wait for Bill to be discharged.

My great grandfather (Jacob) was the Mayor of the Town of Bella and apparently when my dad (Michael) went back to the Ukraine to visit there in the 70's his old home place was still standing. In fact Dad said the neighbors are also related and were also Ungerans who remembered Jacob.

Bella is on the south end of the town of Chernovsty.

I'm not sure if any of this helps or if just adds more confusion.

Hugh Ungeran.

PS I have a lot of relatives in the US and other parts of Canada.
I have been looking for Budzila's from Romania and last known province was Moldovia. My Grandfather was George Budzila and his wife was Anna Veneski or possibly Venenzo written on Death certificates different ways. My fathers name was George. My Uncle, Charles Budzila, and my Aunt was Mary Budzila and another aunt was Helen Budzila. If you know of any connection to these names I would really appreciate a reply. Thank You Respectfully Janis {Budzila} Flanigan

If so, I would be interested in sharing information with you.

I married Jack Botu, son of Marion Botu and Lois Titlow, in 2011. I am interested in learning more about his family tree. Jack and I live in the San Francisco area. We understand Jack's dad is also in California but they have not been in contact in many years.

I would really like to hear from you. Thanks so much.

Leslie (Berger) Botu

There is a problem in your localization.
Szekelydalya and Szokefalva are two different localities. The first is actually Daia in Hargita county, the second is Seuca in Mures county.
Also Hejjasfalva is today Vinatori in Mures county, but Hederfaja is Idrifaia in same Mures county. So which are the right places?
The next question is the faith/religion of your ancestors. If I want to research the familys from pre 1900 period in Transilvania, I have to know the religion of the persons, because the registers were completed by the Churches (for example: roman catholic, calvinist, unitarian, greek catholic, orthodox).
Please refine your information, maybe I will be able to help you.
You can also contact me at familyromania@yahoo.com from more details

Hello Mark,

I am trying to find more information about my 2nd Great Grandmother Piroska Jenei b abt 1850 in Hungary or Romania. She married my 2nd Great Grandfather Karoly Elek and they had four children:

Franciska: b1872 in Hungary
Janos: b1880 in Romania
Julia: b1882 in Hungary (note: she married George Bali)
Mary: b1885 in Hungary

My Grandmother Piroska was aka: Priscilla and it is rumored her first name may have been Elizabeth (obviously she lived to marry so she is not your Elizabeth).

I'm unable to find any more information on them and am wondering if you have her listed in all your Jenei's?

I only have one real clue to my great grandfathers origins and it may not be accurate. On June 7, 1917 he signed an attestation paper for the canadian military. He clearly did not fill in the form himself so the spelling of his birth city is most likely phonetic.

On that form was entered Boutershin, Roumania. I can find no reference to a Boutershin in Romania so am thinking the spelling is off or it is the romanian version of the name. Can anyone help me identify what city that may have been. On the form he indicated May 9th 1879 as his date of birth. any help would be appreciated.

I don't hold out much hope for tracking this back. It may be that he changed his name when he came to canada.
