the name has his orgin of a mountain-range/openfield and comes about slovenian "Vrtaca" germanized "Vertatscha"
= Karawanken (mountain-range at borderline Austria-Slovenia)
also Karstgegend (openfields).
so means someone who was coming once from that area.
