Hi, I've spoken to my older brother Gerry, who has been trying to put our tree together off and on for years, and I believe we may actually have a match: my Grandfather's brother was named Johann Vrtacic, he was born in 1889, and he was said to come over between 1904 and 1906. I'm told the Ellis Island record has his residence in Shassenburg Germany but Austrian/Slovenian in ethnicity, which matches our family's roots in the Gottschee (http://www.gottschee.org/).

I know that attempts were made to look for him in the 70s but got nowhere with the spelling. Regarding the other lost relative, apparently I am mixed up and this is not the case (I am the second youngest of 8 siblings, so it's a bit more hazy for me as I am a bit removed from the initial research that went into this). It's Johann Vrtacic and decendents we lost track of. Thus, my brother Gerry thinks we have a match and tells me to "say hi to our new distant cousins for me".

I believe you are looking to know who Johann Vrtacic's father and siblings were, correct? We can fill in that missing piece, but if memory serves me correct I don't think we were able to drill down any further into the past.
