Hi! Thank you for taking the time to respond to my message. I appreciate your imput. My great-grandmother's official documents listed "Austria" as the country of origin, but her husband's death certificate listed "Yugoslavia" as his birthplace. I haven't been able to find any naturalization records, nor have I found them on any ship's passenger list. The only clue I found was a handwritten reference to Ljubljana, so they may have lived there or in the area.
My greatgrandfather and three of his sons, who were born in "Austria", were gold miners; according to a newspaper article, my great-grandfather worked in the coal mines in Yugoslavia and Germany before immigrating to the U.S. in 1887. Again, thanks for your suggestions as to where to look - I really appreciate it! Cheryl Jones
