My family is from Talne. The surnames are Polevoy, Grossman, Gorodetsky, and Boutelkov. The Polevoys had a general store in the village, probably from 1860s forward. I was very close to Olga Polevoy, my great-great grandmother. She died at the age of 103.
The second husband of my great-great grandmother was a Talmudic scholar. There was an important Jewish school in the village--the inhabitants supported studies for up to 50 men in the nineteenth century. The town had an incredible wooden synagogue. It seems out of place in such a small community.
Here is a good website: www.jewua.org
. It has an article on Talne.
