Classification: Query
Surnames: Sigall, Sigallsky, Shabelny, Stavichny.
My great grandfather b. 1874cc stated on his New Zealand naturalisation certificate (1906) that he was born in Kremenchug. When applying for a copy - years later - he said he was from Charkov. His death certificate says he was from Kiev. I am confused.
I'm Not very familiar with the changing political geography of the area. Kremenchug is now in Poltava oblast - was it perhaps once part of Kiev region? I have researched and realise that there are very few surviving BDM records from kremenchug.
His name was Samuel Sigall. His parents were leiber (Leon) and Rachel Sigall - or Sigallsky. She was Rachel Shabelny. Her parents were Abraham and Rebecca nee Stavichny. They were from kiev.
Any help in tracing my roots or with solving the mystery of Samuels birthplace, in particular, would be appreciated.
