Malanka might have been giving herself a fresh start ??? She had to have documentation, otherwise she would not be allowed onboard. If she managed to get on board and didn't have documentation, she would be sent home on the turnaround voyage. The Steamship Company had to pick up the costs and great precaution was taken to avoid such costs.

I checked Hamburg Passenger List and found a Malanka Pichnyj, but the dates don't gel w/your data. She was older and traveling w/9 yr old daughter and husband Dmytro.

She had to use someone else's documentation??? She used a name she knew starting w/letter P ???

I checked Terebovlya Telephone Directory for similar sounding surnames starting w/letter P.
