If Immigrant Ancestor were emigrating in 1912 and coming from Lutsk county > Vohlynskaya region, immigration record would show him coming from RUSSIA , not Austria. (There was/is a selo/village called Sokil in Vohlyn oblast/region.) SOKOL (and other suffix variants) means FALCON in several Slavic languages. At the turn of the century there were appx 60 million people living in regions that are Ukraine today.

In 1926 Sokal, large district center, was located in Lwowskie wojiwodstwo/region> Reconstituted Poland. Anyone emigrating in this time frame was coming from Poland.

Immigrants frequently referred to their district centers as place of origin for geographical reference, because their own villages were small. During Great Immigration Period, most emigrants were leaving their small native villages for economic opportunity. Following is a short list of them. Stay fexible re transliterational (sounds like) variants/spellings.
