SALEM, Ohio – Maria Prychodczenko, 87, slipped away quietly with her family by her side at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley in Boardman, Ohio.
She was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Stupke, Ukraine, in the Poltava Region, the daughter of the late David and Fania Pohribniak.
Maria had worked in Austria for seven years before coming to the United States on Dec. 24, 1949.
Mrs. Prychodczenko was a high school graduate and before her retirement in 1986 had last been employed at Salem Tool Company in Salem as custodian.
She had also been a housekeeper for Norman Pedersen, who sponsored her to come to this country, and housekeeper for both Henry Anderson and Richard Sekely.
She was also a custodian for John Sudol.
She was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, working on the farm and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Her husband, Mykola Prychodczenko, whom she married Sept. 9, 1950, survives her along with two daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Tiedeman of Boardman, Ohio and Anna Maria (David) Anderson of Salem, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Peter, and Katherine Anderson.
A son, David J. Prychodczenko, preceded her in death in 1957.
A sister, Katya; and two brothers, Mykola and Petro, also preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan, 11, 2013, at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown, Ohio.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with a Panahida Service at 7:30 p.m. with Father Gregory Becker officiating.
Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church Cemetery.
