Surnames: SIMON/JOHN/SLEIMON/SEMAAN/SOLOMON/ Hanna(h), any spelling derivation
What city/town would a Mary JOHN & Joseph Michael SIMON come from in Lebanon??? Their names were changed upon entry into Ellis Island, NY. Their names originally might have been Semaan/Sleimon/Solomon or some derivation and Hanna(h) which means John. They were Maronite Catholics who settled in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. They owned a grocery/bakery store. They had eight children, Joseph b. 1897, George b. 1902, Annie b. 1904, William b. 1910, Julia b. 1917, Mary Catherine b. 1918, Mitchell b. 1921, Harry b. 1922.

Mary John Married Joseph Michael Simon in Syria in the 1890's. They came to America about 1896 to Ellis Island. I have NOT found the Ellis Island record because I believe their name was changed upon entry into the United States. However, most census/records say they were from Syrian Arab Republic.
Mary, b. about 1885 d. 1939
Joseph b. about 1870 d. 1965

Below are pictures of Joseph Michael Simon, Mary John Simon and one of their sons, Harry Michael Simon ( my husbands father). If you double click on each picture you will get an enlarged version with no distortion.
