I have some information on a Dennis Lynch, who was a Park Warden in Waterton Lakes National Park ca. 1919-1924 and Jasper N.P. 1924 to about 1928. at which point he seems to have moved to Banff N.P. and worked for the park until sometime in the 1940's or 1950's (but not as a park warden). This D. lynch also enlisted in the 13th Canadian Mounted Rifles in Feb. of 1915 (Regimental # 552068, DOB 1 Jan. 1884, Age 31, Born in New Brunswick, Single, Occupation: Teamster. Address: Pincher Creek). Dennis Lynch & family also show up in the 1901 and 1906 census returns, living in Pincher Creek, Ab.

Provincial Archives of Alberta 89.440/1/97. Registration of live birth #1075. Herbert Egerton Diamond, son of W.E. and Eliza was born in the Electoral District of Banff, in Red Deer. In 1901 W.E. was in the Yukon and Eliza and family (including Esther Jane) were in Fort Saskatchewan. Esther Jane's date of birth there is given as Feb. 5, 1892. In 1892 the family would probably still have been in Red Deer area. You can also get W.E.'s Northwest Mounted Police Personnel records on-line.

With regards your search for info re McCormick -Mary Guichon was still alive and living in Calgary when she phoned me about 2 years ago now.You could probably contact her via the Riley and McCormick shops in that City. One at the International Airport and one in the City.
My great uncle Hugh McCormick went from Cushendun Nth Ireland about 1920s to Calgary also and was an Accountant to Eneas in the Company.I am trying to trace a brother also Michael McCormick who went along also. They had no family. maybe we could be related?
Their father was Michael McCormick and mother Rose{ McNeill} and they lived on the Torr Rd,Cushendun
HISTOIRE ADMINISTRATIVE/NOTICE BIOGRAPHIQUE:
Eneas McCormick, 1878-1956, was born at Deer Park, Glen Arm, Country Antrim, Ireland. He came to Canada about 1890 and worked as a leather craftsman in Peterborough, Sudbury, Port Arthur, New Westminster, and Vancouver before coming to Calgary, Alberta about 1897. He worked at Great West Saddlery and then opened a business briefly in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1901 he joined William James Riley in the firm Riley and McCormick. He was actively involved in the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, and was a Calgary alderman for three terms. He and his first wife, Mary Louise McGannon, ?-1925, had three children, Edward J., 1910-1997, Michael J., 1922-1998, and Mary (Guichon), 1924-2010. He later married Mary Veronica Curley, ?-1967.

We can not find the brothers and sisters of Eneas thats where we are at a standstill, can find all kinds of stuff on Eneas except his siblings.

my granfather John Mccormick came to calgary when he was 19,and lived with Eneas he must have moved to Banff after that, he passed away in 1938 we think. My father John Mccormick was born in 1935 he passed in 1998
simone

Hey,

This is a distant relative of mine (and I suppose I am a more distant relative of yours). Interesting story...I'd be curious as to what you know on your end.

I don't think you're looking for banff..I think you're looking for Fort Normandeau (now Red Deer):
http://zoominlocal.com/reddeerexpress/2011/03/02/#?article=1...

Contact me for more info...between the two of us we could probably piece together some stuff (if you want to). Heads up: Some of this would have been very sensitive at the time. For me, there is nobody left in my family with emotional attachment to it. I just find it fascinating.

Thank you! I knew about the Willima Gates buried in Mountain View but am not sure if he's the right one. The burial info provided some information on his parents (that's how I got Retlaw) but no mention of his brother John. So I continue to look.

Thanks again!

Looking for the family of William "Bill" Gates (spelling?) who lived in Banff in the 1940s. He would have been born in the 1920s. He had a brother John "Johnny" who was in the Navy in WWII and stayed with Bill off and on from 1946 on. William may have died in 1975. The family may have been from Retlaw. Any help in tracking this family will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, Stella. So far I haven't been able to find an obituary or the name of the Funeral Home. When I first discovered the cemetery listing, a number of years ago, I wrote to a volunteer who looked it up for me. The following is the information she was able to find:

William J. Gates
Born Retlaw 1921
Died 1975
Son of Paul Gates and Catherine Veleti

You'd think that would be of some help but to this day I've gotten no further. I found nothing more of William nor anything of Paul or Catherine.

I've been able to track down other family, and trace them back a hundred or more years, with even less information so this has been quite frustrating.

Thanks again for your help.

There is an even closer connection between the Brewster & Donaldson clans of Joyceville. John Brewster's sister, Margerat, married my great-great-great uncle William Alexander Donaldson(1833-78) on 14 Feb 1861. Theyhad six children who all lived and died in the Joyceville area and buried in the Joyceville cemetary. The joyceville cemetary is at the back end of the property owned by William Donaldson. He donated for the cemetary and church that was built there.

William Donaldson/Catherine Scott-Lisdillon, County Derry
Emigrated to Joyceville, Ontario(Kingston) in the early 1850s. Their first attempt at emigrating was halted when the ship they were sailing in sank. The second one did not sink and they arrived in the maritimes, Nova Scotia I think. They wintered there one season and came to Kingston. There was one relative, John Donaldson, who left Lisdillon, Derry in 1847.

John Thompson/Jane Donaldson
Children:
Isabella Thompson born 18 Dec 1846, Ireland
Catherine Jane Thompson/Thomas William Graham
Mary Ann Thompson/John Tuttle
Vina Thompson-i think she died real young
Sarah E Thompson
Jane Jannice Thompson/John Standbury
Andrew Thompson/Emma Titton
John Thompson/?
This is a little ackward, I am your cousin from Kingston. Isabella Thompson was the child of Jane Donaldson and John Thompson, Jane was the child of William Donaldson & Catherine Scott from from the Breddie, Tyrone and Lisdillon, Londerry of what is now Northern Ireland. I obtained a copy of Jane Donaldson/John Thompson's marriage certificate and a photocopy the ledger from the day of their wedding in 1849-both of which I can send to you. William had 8 children in total, one was John Donaldson, who fathered Robert Alexander Donaldson, who fathered Morris Maclean Donaldson, who fathered Arthur Morris-my father. One of the people who placed in a post regarding Jane & John Thompson was my cousin Jacq. Eden. I can send you a comprehensive family history, it is a series of family history sheets transcibed into PDF format. It covers 5 generations of family history. As well I can send you pictures from where William & Catherine lived in Ireland, as I lived in the UK for 2 yrs. Your not going to believe this, but just today I picked up a copy of the book The Brewster Family: from pack train to tour bus. A book I assume you are familiar with. Just a while ago I emailed Brewster Mountain lodge and forwarded a copy of the PDF file I mentioned. I can send it to you directly. My email address is markdonaldson73@hotmail.com. I look forward to hearing back from you soon! Cheers from Kingston.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for getting back to me so soon. Could you tell me if this sanitarium was for people that had TB? Would you be able to send me a picture of the building? Could you find an obit for Bevan Ashton who died in 1940 in Banff? This article you sent me is just fantastic. Any other info would be great too.
Regards
Cathy

Hello,
I would like to find some info on Bevan Ashton or Herbert Morgan Bevan Ashton B. 1874 Devon,England. Bevan died in Banff and buried in the Banff Cem in 1940 along with his wife Marion in 1943. Bevan was a Masseur in banff around 1905-1940. What I would like to know if he was employed by the Bannf hotel or if he had his own shop or ran a spa??? Also if there is an obit for both of them. They had one son Phillip Bevan Ashton, B 1909.

Thanks for your help
Regards
Cathy

Hi, if William Joseph BROADFOOT passed away in Banff Alberta
The Death would have been registered in Alberta
Genealogical Registration of Death can be obtained from the Govt of Alberta - Vital Statistics Registry Offices -in Edmonton.
The cost in the $40 Range.

Provincial Archive in Edmonton - may? have some info.

Information on the Registrations of Death - depends on the knowledge of the Informant. If a hospital or ? they may not have all of the personal information eg.names of parents etc [there are times when other family members/ spouse etc may not remember].
Registrations will not show names of siblings/ children etc.

Cheers, Stella
You need to ask the Alberta Genealogical Society, they have indexed publications of "Births, Marriages and Deaths in Alberta Pre 1905".

For further research please contact the Research Committee of the Edmonton Branch.
http://abgensoc.ca/

The Edmonton Branch
http://www.agsedm.edmonton.ab.ca/

Peter
