Stark Family

Looking for Stark family history? I am researching my husbands family. His grandfather Alexander Stark married to Janet O'neil immigrated with his family to Lunford, Alberta, Canada. We have no idea where Lunford, Alberta is as we cannot find it on a map at all. Alexander had a sister in the Barrhead area. We beleive her married name is Loitz. Alexander's parents were Maria Elizabeth Dekker and John Stark, immigrated to Lunford, Alberta, Canada from Alexanderdorf, Nalchek, Russia. Do these names sound familiar to anyone?

Can someone please tell me if the Paddle River Cemetery is located at or near the Barrhead Legion cemetery? I see from online info that the Paddle River Cemetery is called the "Poynter Memorial Cemetery at Paddle River". My father and I were up there a few years ago and he was convinced that his brother was buried in an older part of the cemetery that is adjacent to the Legion cemetery. I could see the Legion area with cenotaph and chain link fence from where we were standing.

IF that older adjacent cemetery is NOT the Poynter Memorial Cemetery, then what is it called and where IS the Poynter Cemetery/Paddle River cemetery?

Thanks from Nora

I am researching my family history of the Botsford, Bryden, and Grant families.
My Grandfather Harold Gammell Botsford lived around the Barrhead area back in the 1920-1940's. The Grant families lived ther around 1910-1950 - I believe. Possibly some Brydens too - my Grandmother was Grace Helena Bryden. She was a teacher and possibly taught in the area.
I appreciate any information, or contacts, that anyone can give me.
My email address is: <barrybotsford@shaw.ca>
Thank you.
Barry Botsford

Stoby family in Canada

I am looking for relatives of my great grandmother whose maiden name was Brita Stoby. She and her family emigrated from Sweden to Strandburg, SD USA in about 1892. She was married to Humpus Per Nelson and they moved to Roseau county of Minnesota and lived in the area of communities named, Malung, Wanaska, and Salol. Her husband changed his last name from Nilson to Nelson when he emigrated and did not use his given name Humpus instead he was known to most as Per Nelson. Their son Victor Emmanuel Nelson was my grandfather. The Stoby family moved on into Canada however Per and Brita remained in Roseau county. Victor and his brother Jon told stories of traveling to Canada and working for the Stoby's on their farms in Canada. The Stoby's are said to have moved further into Canada to the communities of Baarhead, AB, Fawcett, AB, and Rich Valley, AB. My father Victor Eugene Nelson, would be very interested in hearing any information about his grandmothers family.

The family name used to be Christophersen but was at some point changed to Huff, named for the place in Norway where the parents had immigrated from in the early 1860es. He most likely went by the name of Maribo Huff. I would be glad to hear from living descendants as well as anyone else who can cast light on the whereabouts of this family.

MACRAE, Alexander (Malcolm)

I have begun to look into my family history and have been led to Barrhead Alberta. My Great Grandfather was born about 1860 in Ontario and moved to Edmonton with his wife about 1890. He then moved with his wife and five(?) children to Barrhead where they began to farm. Alexander died about 1950 and apparently his youngest daughter, who is now 91 years old, is still alive and well at a nursing home near Barrhead.
This was his second family, I am unsure what happened to his first wife in Ontario but it was from this marriage that my Grandfather, Benson Alexander MacRae, was born. Sometime after that Alexander moved westward and started a new family.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated
Kelly & Wilson

Anyone know a family of Kelly that lived in or around Barrhead? Thomas Jerimiah Kelly & wife Mary Anne Wilson.
They had a daughter named Mary Bertha Kelly,my mother.
My mother told me that her mother died in childbirth in Florida USA. She was brought up by her father and his sister
Emma Kelly Mills. They lived on a farm next door to her Aunt Emma's farm.
I hope this rings bells with someone out there.
Frances
