Classification: Query
Surnames: Gadouis, Gadois, Gadouas, Gadoua, Gadwa, Gadway
There was a question posted as to whether the surname Gadwa could have been Gadois in Canada and if there were Indian connections.
I was born a Gadoua and am descended from Pierre Gadois sometimes seen as(Gadouis)born 1594 [Ige (St Martin), Perche (Orne:610207), France} and Louise Mauger b. 1598
The Gadois name variations I have of his descendants are: Gadois, Gadouas, Gadoua, Gadwa, and Gadway. In my grandfathers family there are 3 of those variations among he and his siblings.
In my line of ancestors back to Jean Baptiste Gadois s/o Pierre Gadois there are no Indians. It is my understanding though, that many early French Canadians did marry Indians.
Would be interested to hear of any other variations of the Gadois surname.
