John Wesley Poling

I'm looking for any information on John Wesley Poling. Born in Ohio in 1862, his first wife was Rose Gilmore. They lived for a time in Mecosta county, Michigan and are listed in the 1900 Federal Census (he's listed as John H. which is an error) with children, Bessie, Cecil, Ray, and Zeo. Not listed is a son, Elton Richard who came along in 1902. I think Rose died shortly after that (possible during childbirth) and is buried in Michigan. John either remarried and moved to Lacombe area or moved to Lacombe area and remarried; either way, he was there in 1917 when his sons Cecil and Ray moved from Portland, OR and joined the Canadian Army and went off to WWI where they both were killed in action. I cannot find any death information for John nor who his second wife was. I'm also searching for Rose's death information as well as John's parents' info. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Not realy sure on her name at this time. We think she was going by Ruby Kennedy but have info for all three. I was told that Ruby Kennedy and or Ruby Latimer or Rebecca Clingan came to Alix Alberta around 1926-1929. Then was in Calgary for 1930 for a time then on to Scollard Alberta till about 1940. I have been unable to find any information about her. I know she worked for a restraunt (sp) in Alix. Then I think she was a live in domestic for Calgary and Schollard. She had my mother in 1929 in Calgary.
If anyone could help with suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated

I am seeking descendants of Reidar Grodas b. circa 1900-1907 in Hornindal area, Nordfjord, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. He emigrated to Canada and descendants are said to be in the Lacombe area. One was a hospital administrator in the town of Lacombe, at one time.

Reidar Grodas is the son of Rasmus Stoverstein b. 1882 Norway..who emigrated to Minnesota in 1907. The family story is that Reidar's mother did not want to emigrate and leave her family...therefore, she turned down his request of marriage. Rasmus emigrated and is said to only marry after Reidar's mother died in Norway.

A book of Hornindal descendants is being put together and we would like to include Reidar's...

I'm a descendant of Rasmus Stoverstein's older sister Synneva.

I am related to a Herman Morbeck and his wife Bernadina Verkennis, who had at least 4 or 5 children, one of whom was said to be born in Lacombe, Alberta, 1918.
If there are relatives or people who know more about them, please help. Thank you.
Another family, Math SWEEP and wife Bertha, homesteaded closer to Drumheller, but may have had contacts with this MORBECK family since they are half-related. Thanks for any leads or info.

Michael Patrick (name spelled Pattrick? on the 1901 Lacombe Census) lived in Lacombe with wife Rachel and 5 children. I would love to find out if he stayed in Lacombe after 1901. One son Arthur is also on the 1901 Census (spelled Patrick!), living on his own. Is there a Lacombe Henderson Directory? Would very much appreciate any help I can find to locate Michael. Thanks very much.
Bonnie Patrick
Elora, Ontario

We have photos taken in Alberta of a Christian or Chris Zimmerman family. He would have been born Switzerland ca 1860, emigrated to Canada probably 1890-95. We know he was married and had two daughters and a son. We never knew the children's names.

We know he lived in Alberta, Blackfalls. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? There is quite an extended family and would love to connect with Chris Zimmerman family.

It has been said he passed away 1982 . Jimmy lived around the Red Deer area 1970/1971. Thank you.

I live near Lacombe and will conduct simple research in my immediate area (Lacombe, Clive, Tees, Alix).

I just discovered this message board and thought I'd offer to help (I have a digital camera for taking photos at the cemetery, etc).

Also I have in my possession the original hand written recordings from the cemetry transcriptions which the (now defunct) Lacombe Genealogy Club did for the AGS in the 80's. In addition to the basic data required for the AGS cemetery project, the club members thought it was important to write down everything written on each and every headstone in the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery. Unfortunately I don't have an index so I will need the information that Peter Goutbeck of the AGS has been providing members of this list (thanks Peter).

As I stated, I am new to the list and to Ancestry.com. I only have a two week free subscription, therefore should I not be able to access this list in future, please e-mail me privately at
tazaras@telus.net (or scoggins12345@yahoo.ca).

Anyone who has posted prior to Jan 30/04 and still requires information, please let me know exactly what you need and I'll see what I can do. (You are welcome to post my responses on the list should I not be able to access it after my free trial is up.)

Ferne Gudnason
Lacombe, AB
tazaras@telus.net
I'm looking for information on the Halvor and Gunnild Botten Family in the Lacombe area. They resided between Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House from 1902 to at least 1943. Gunnild had a daughter from a previous marriage, Thilda, m. Hans Olsen, d. 1932. Halvor's children with Gunnild are: Clara, m. Frank Andrew, d. 1975; Edward, no other info; Selma, m. Chris Boller, d. 1971; Thressa, m. Orvel Rasmussen, d. ??; and Gena, m. Rudolph Rasmussen, d. 1933. Halvor was born in Norway 1862, and immigrated to Minnesota with his family. He married Gunnild after her first husband died, and they moved to South Dakota. In or about 1902 they moved to Alberta where they stayed. Halvor is listed in his brother's obituary in 1943 as still living. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Clarence Trueman McCully - Lacombe

My Father's first cousin Clarence Trueman McCully (1888-1957) was married to a Mabel ?. They were probably married in Lacombe where the family was living in 1901. They were married before 1917 and probably after abt 1910. Clarence' mother was my father's Aunt Jennie Pearce, his father Henry Havelock McCully. The family all wound up in California. Clarence and Mabel moved (first?) to Minnesota around 1917.

Anybody encountered the family. Related to Mabel?
I have a picture of FRANK ANDREWS who I believe was from the Gilby, Alberta area (west of Lacombe). He was soldier of the First World War - Canadian Expeditionary Force. His father was William Andrews also from Gilby according to the Attestation Papers. Frank was born September 18, 1897 in Shrewsbury, England. Does anyone know who he is? I have no idea how his picture came to be in an old family album. Previously posted this message in error as a response on the Lacombe county page. INEZ
