Hi Stella!
Thanks for getting back to me! Sorry for posting in this thread, I haven't really posted before, still getting to know the rules. I was looked for the book at the Lamont library but they don't have it. That would be very nice if you could email me a scanned page (if you get it working) or a transcript from the other book. I am also related to the Chudyk family. The email you can reach me at is oonk@live.ca. Thank you so much!
Lisa

Hi,Many people don't realize that there could be a problem with mingled messages -and the difficulty of keeping track of which message belongs to our personal interests - a solution if this happens is to enter the Surname/s of Interest on the Subject line in Capital letters.
Posting surnames of interest in Capial Letters at the surname section.

I will transcribe ULAN info from Dictionary of Ukrainian Canadian Biography of Pioneer Settlers in Alberta 1891-1900
by Vlad.Kaye.
CHUDYK does not appear in that book.
Memories of Mundare ULAN pages 515 -521 -CHUDYK does not appear.
Will send transcript via your e mail address

From Alberta GenWeb Local History Book site
CHUDYK, Andrew & Tekla; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, Anton & Tillie; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, John & Mary; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, Nicholas & Mary; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, Paul & Mary; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, Peter & Jenny; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, William & Francis; Pride In Progress; Lamont
CHUDYK, William; Our Crossing, Rivers to Roads; Two Hills

Cheers, Stella

Hi, It would be best to post your quest as a separate message - rather than tied into the KULBA posting - unless here if a family connection. Keeps the thread much easier to follow - messages then don't intermingle -

Dictionary of Ukanian Canadian Biography of Pioneer Settlers in Alberta 1891 -1900
JASINSKI,YASHINSKY - Michael, Palakna,Blasko, Margaret,Peter
Teodozia,Mary, Mike, Nastia.

I can transcribe the information above for you.
Can also transcribe info from Memories of Mundare
My Printer Scanner is not working - Just waiting to see if Ineed to purchase another. so can't offer scanned pages.at this time.

Will need e mail address if you want transcripts.

Memories of Mundare BOHAYCHUK famile page 205 206 2 photos
Surnames connected
AKSENCHUK,ANTONCHUK.BAIER,BODNAR,CHMILAR ,CZAK,
DAGELIS,GREGULIAK,HAMILTON, HARRISON,HOOPER,JASINSKI,
KAFIUK,KERCHER.
Hi Lisa

Might have been best to submit a separate message unless your research is connected to the KULBA posting.
Helps keep the thread of the message indivual rather than mixing different quests.

Do you have the book Memories of Mundare?

I just took a look at my book -
UlAN family appears pages 515 -521 with a few photo's

Unfortunately I arrived home - to find that my printer/scanner - was no longer working. Am waiting to see what the problem is - if it can be fixed - or if I need to purchase another.
I could transcribe the pages it will take a while -in evenings - or can get back to you via e mail -

Dictionary of Ukrainian Canadian Biography of Pioneer Settlers in Alberta 1891 - 1900
shows info re William [Wasyl/Basyl] Ulan dcd Jan 1910
John ULAN
Also Maksym ULAN -also Wasyl ULAN
Families connected
MATWIJIW,LELUK, CHUDYK, CHMILAR

I can easily send a transcript from this book.

Cheers, Stella

Thank you Peter. I had visited the cemetary this past summer and all the Iwaschuk's buried there are my relatives. I did not know of the other cemeteries though. AS far as I know there is no direct connection but one never knows and I will keep this info in mind in case I do need to research further ancestors.

Sandra

Thanks Stella for the info.

It is good to know that the Orthodox church was once Catholic. I think I remember reading about the history in the area of some churches becoming Greek Orthodox but didn't know which ones.

I am hoping to save some money as ordering birth certificates for at least 10 people can be expensive! My Grandmother's birth was before Alberta was a province as well so not sure if they would even have records for her.

The two names I am researching is Iwaschuk/Iwazczuk and Chwyl. My great grandparents were Jacob and Barbara Iwaschuk and Luc and Fanny Chwyl - their son Nick and Martha Iwashcuk -Chwyl were my grandparents. I do have a copy of family history from the Bruderhiem History book. It has a write up of Jacob's brother, Fred (Teodore) and his family. I did locate a book on the internet from Chipman (I think that is the name??) that has the names of Jacob and Barbara but have not actually seen the book yet to get the write up on them.

If you have any further info I would appreciate it.

I think I will try the Basilian Fathers in Mundare to start. I know all these people existed but would be nice to have copies of their batismals at the very least.

Sandra

Hi Sandra - What is the Name of the Families you are researching? - there may be other information - that could help you. with some information.
I have some Local History Books - information submitted by families - perhasp yours.

Birth: Genealogical Registration of Birth - is available from the Govt of Alberta - Vital Statistics Registry Offices - in Edmonton Alberta. The Cost $40 Cndn.
Marriage and Death Genealogical Registration of Death - from same.
Provincial Archive in Edmonton Alberta - may hold some records . I don't believe that you will receive a copy of informtion - but may receive a transcript of info -for a very small fee.

Contact the Church Offices - If the baptisms were not held there - they may be kind - and make enquiries for you

Contact BASILIAN FATHERS in Mundare Alberta - they may hold records re Baptisms, Marriage, Death.

The parish was originally Ukrainian Catholic and was served by the Basilian fathers from Mundare until 1923.

Religious differences developed in the Jaroslaw community and in 1925 the parish was reorganized as the Ukrainian Orthodox Parish of St. Demetrius the Martyr. As a result, a new Ukrainian Catholic parish was established at Jaroslaw, which eventually built the Holy Spirit Church that stands across the road to the northeast of St. Demetrius'.
Cheers, Stella

I have two sets of great grandparents that immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine late 1800's and early 1900's. One family is buried at St. Demetrius Ukainina Orthodox Church/Cemetary in Jaroslaw. I can only assume that was the church they attended before their deaths.

The other family attended a church in Leeshore called Nativity of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church. It is my understanding to this point that my father and his sbilings were baptized here.

I would like to research and get copies of births, baptismals of my grandmother (born in 1902) and her siblings as well as my father and his brothers (born in the 20's and 30's.

Does anyone know if it is possible to search these records and who do I contact? Where?

Thanks for any help

Sandra

Hi, Wonderful -thank you so much- Amazing find.
Makysym and Anna -are connected to my grandfather -we don't know if he is a cousin or a brother.
My mother - and her siblings didn't seem to think that there were any relatives -perhaps forgotten memories.

CHMELEK in the 1901 Census.
The other Chmelyk family was actually spelled CHMELYK
*the surname or the given names -always appear to be mis spelled.
The Cemetery Photo's and indexing - is such a wonderful find.
Out elder cousins - 79, 80, 83 ,85 -are coming into town mid month-they will be very excited to know what you have found -the cemetery photo's -
Don't know why the children cannot be found.
Perhaps they only had wooden crosses -which may have deteriorated over time.
Apparently the girls passed away within days of one another - two are buried in one grave - the other passed away the next day.

Cheers, Stella

Hi, Thank you so Very Much - I appreicate your help
The actual surname is CHMELYK - sometimes Chemeluk, Chemluk
Hmelyk, Kmelyk
I know that the youngest girl was born in 1904 - and the children do not appear in the 1906 Census - the reason I have limited to that time line.
Thank you again
Cheers, Stella

I did not realize that the Alberta Genealogical Society was recording cemeteries this way. I did know about the Alberta-Ukrainian Genealogical Project, I had contacted them and never heard back anything. I have been in contact with some people from the Alberta Genealogical Society, very helpful ladies. This is a project that I have worked on for a few years now...fully enjoying myself, and hope it is of some help to people searching for the ancestors.
