Hi Nanner from Allison Skinner. I've been wondering about the McVinnie family tree, and saw your post from 2001. Hope this email is still valid.

I know of Malcolm, Gordon and Harry, but not where they all came from. Would love to hear from you. ahetman@shaw.ca
Thank you so much for responding to my post.

My husband's grandmother, Dorthea "Dora" HANSEN Petersen, was Chris Iverson HANSEN's sister.

I believe Dora and Chris were the only children of Hans C. HANSEN (1863 DEN-1892 IA) and Kristina JORGENSEN (1858 DEN-1935 IA). (I have attached a portrait of Hans and Kristina.)

According to my notes:

1. Hans C. HANSEN's parents were Christian HANSEN and Dorthea JUHL.

and

2. Kristina JORGENSEN Hansen's parents were Iver JORGENSEN and Else BALTZEN.

Does this match with what you know of your grandfather's background? I have additional portraits and some news items from both Iowa and Lethbridge newspapers, if you are interested in having them.

Does anyone know of a children’s home in Lethbridge in and around 1914??

I’m looking for 3 siblings, with the surname Swerdfegger/swartzfigger or Kaus or Fane. The siblings I’m looking for are Sarah A, b. abt 1896; George, b. 1899; Emily, b. abt June 1903, and; Henry b. abt April 1907.
Sarah, George and Emily were children of Harriet (Rose) Kaus nee Fane (biological father unknown), Step father Amos Swerdfegger. Henry is Rose and Amos’ son.

I have reason to believe that three of the eight children were placed in a Children home in Lethbridge, in and around 1914 after Amos and Rose’s marriage ended.

I have censuses for 1901, 1906, 1911 and 1916 confirming the union and separation of the family in Alberta. But have not been able to find the siblings in question in the cenesus after 1911. I was able to obtain death certificats for George, Henry and the eldest sibling (annie) in BC.
I am seeking information on a Mary Musgrave deceased, plus her husband James Daniel Musgrave 1890. I believe an obit notice exists for Mary, the death or notice not sure which, is dated 7th March 1953. Does anyone have access to the Lethbridge Herald records held in the public library in Lethbridge Alberta, who could do a look up for me, I would be most grateful. I can offer in return, help with U.K. census records or BMD records.

Bev,

Thanks a bunch. These are very helpful.

I don't believe that Alex or any of the DIDYK are in his line.

These are missing sister Helen, unknown location, and brothers Mike, unknown location, and Peter who lived around Toronto area about 1966 or so. Fred's and Peter's info came to me this week from sister Polly's obit. Rest of the family were in and around north of Saskatoon.

Anna and Polly were born in Montreal in 1910 and 1913, respectively. Others birth year only estimates from probate form of mother.

Are these from the NewspaperArchive? I was going to try it this evening.

Have a great holiday. You made mine already.

CHIMO,
RON C

I did find the family when they resided in Carmen MB. Now it is Catherine's mother,Rachel O'Neil McCormick, that I have to find. Catherine's father is buried in the Carmen Cemetery but there is no record of the mother being buried there. I feel that she went to SK when her daughter or son first moved there. I wish we had more census records available like they do in the U.S.A.

Wilma

John Berte must have been a bit of a character , he owned a general store his stores name was in the paper constantly, he sued the railway for running over his wagon , he had a broken ankle and could not maintain a descent quality of service to his customers and his two horses died , after being hit by the train. while the family lived on 7th avenue, one wondered down the street to illegal bar and was fined 200,00 dollars for being drunk , it was a second offence. John even offered land in British Columbia for sale . I have subscription to newspaper archives, but I cannot figure out how to cut and paste from the site .

She was married to John M Berte. I think she lived there until her death in 1945.
