I am Eugene's niece. I am named for my great-grandma Sara(h). Her maiden name was Callihoo. Her parents were Elzear Callihoo and Genevieve Gaucher. Gordon's parents were Abraham Courteoreille and Marie Louise Belcourt. Abraham's parents were Pierre Courteoreille and Sophie Cartier. And this is where I have gotten stuck in terms of the Courteoreille line. I cannot find the parentage for Pierre. I suspect he was the child of Joseph (Pepamowew) Courteoreille and Nancy Ignace because I had heard my auntie speak about Pepamowew, but she is deceased and I can't ask her what she knew. They had a child named Pierre, but in certain places it looks like he (Pierre) died at a very young age.

Thank you!! You've created a 'break through' that I've been searching for a long while. I had even searched for 'Norbeck' instead of 'Nordbeck' on both Ancestry & FamilySearch.org (my Norwegian cousin was either wrong in the spelling or it was changed or mispelled when they immigrated as I've discovered happens a lot). However, the dates you offered made a wider search possible & I found lots of new information!:-) You are right about Trysil, Norway. It is actually not a very big city. I only have U.S. access on Ancestry which I need to change as so many of my relatives on all side came to Canada first. I never did run across the record you describe. Is it a Canadian border crossing record? Regardless, I truly appreciate your effort to help - which you DID! Thanks again for your time.
Jean

I am looking for any information on my great aunt Johanne Haavi born 7 Apr 1872, Trysil Norway.

Married John Flodin 2 May 1910 in Norway. John was killed.

Aunt Johanne(a) then married Peter Nordbeck after abt 1912. They lived in Wildwood, Alberta, Canada.

We have a few pictures of her, but cannot find anything of her life in Wildwood. We think she died in 1956 & is buried there.

Any info appreciated.

Thank you Peter....I will follow up your leads! Can you clarify the second piece of information for me please, you have written Bruce DAVIS, 1923-1926 16yrs. Is this a typo do you think as this would make him 3yrs? My guess is that the first burial will be Bruce as the story of his death was reported in the Letherdridge Herald on the 20th June 1938, so the dates add up! Thanks again. Donna.

The Master Surname Database (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these names;

Bruce DAVIS, 19 jun 1938 (Brightwood cemetery)
burial in Entwistle Cemetery Entwistle.

Bruce DAVIS, 1923 - 1929 16yrs
burial in the Brightwood cemetery Drayton Valley.

These cemeteries are about 6 or 7 Miles apart. So they seem to be two different people.

Maybe you should contact the AGS Drayton Valley Branch to see if the can get more info.

For further research please contact the Research Committee of the Drayton Valley Branch.
http://abgensoc.ca/

Peter

Hi....can anyone help me find further infomation about my family who lived in the area in the 1930's? Bruce was my grandfathers (Richard Grant Davis) brother who drowned aged 16 in the Pembina river in June 1938. The family were reported to be living at Moon Lake. Their father was Richard, mother I think was Jean and there were other siblings too Ross Graham, Kenneth and Jean...I believe my grandfather may of been the eldest, he would of been 26 at the time. Any infomation of the Davis family living in the area at this time would be greatly recieved as I have been looking for a couple of years now for any clues particularly of my great grandparents Richard and Jean. Thanks.
Donna Webb, nee Davis

The Master Surname Database (not online) (mostly burials in Alberta cemeteries) of the Alberta Genealogical Society lists these names;

Peter Alexander MCDONALD, 1894 - 28 Dec 1975
burial in the Inga cemetery near Stony Plain.
There are more MCDONALD burials in this and other cemeteries in the area, but none that fit you query.

This is an older cemetery and names of burials may have become lost.

There is a
William J. BURNS, 1845 - 9 or 24 Jan 1931 (h/o Mary MACDONALD, same stone as Blanch & Elizabeth MACDONALD)
burial in the 7 ave Edmonton cemetery.

Both of you need to get the Publication "Alberta Index of Registration of Birth, Marriage & Deaths, 1870 - 1905".

Available at AGS Edmonton.
For further research please contact the Research Committee of the Edmonton Branch.
http://abgensoc.ca/

Peter

I wonder if John Mcdonald might be the son on Alexander McDonald of Brookfield, PEI. The reason I say this is that Alexander McDonald had a daughter Mary, born in 1850, who came out to Stony Plain, Alberta and married William J Burns. They soon moved to St. Albert. I noticed somewhere that when John's wife died, he sent for his sister Mary, who then married William Burns. My great grandmother was Catherine McDonald Corbett. I am trying to work on this branch of the McDonalds. I hope that this might help. William Mallett wmallett@telus.net

I asked your mom to call me to let me know she got back home safe from her bus trip but I have not heard from her. I have been swamped with traveling around for this week of vacation with trying to keep my 12 year old happy and busy. I will call your mom on Wednesday the 25th to see how she's doing. She has my number and I told her to call whenever she needs/wants.

I knew that he was having more and more problems all the time that is why I wanted to get over and see him.

It is fine to use my personal email as this is really a strange way of exchanging information.

Thanks,
James

Hi,

I'm sorry I'm not sure whom I am talking to. I think from Teds girlfriend I talking today that you might be Bev.

Ted and his girlfriend got up Saturday morning and were sitting around and she was on the phone. When she got done she looked over and Ted was sitting there crumpled over. She called 911 right away but he was out for up to 30 minutes. They got his heart beating and transfered him to the hospital in Wenatchee where I was staying until going up to see him on Sunday, today. Well that didn't pan out, I missed seeing him by about 24 hours. Unable to contact him at his house all day I finally contacted his girlfriend of 26 years around 6 in the evening and she told me of the days events. He was admitted into critical care on life support and things did not sound good. My youngest boy and I went to see him around 8:30 last night. It was very sad to see him in that condition. I spoke with the nurses and things were bad. I spoke with his niece in Edmonton and we made plans to talk today on his conditions while I was at the hospital. Ted passed today at 11:40 AM. If you want to chat more I am James Froberg from Longview, WA. My dad Jim Froberg who was Teds brother died back in 1983 I believe. My email is truefro@msn.com if you need to chat more.

James

I'm his nephew James from Longview, WA I came to Wenatchee, WA today 8-21-2010 to go see him, missed talking to him the night before and I got the worst info today at 6:00 PM when trying to contact him through his girlfriend. This morning he was transported to Wenatchee and put on Life Support. Things are not good. I will miss the Norwegian Yankee. He was an awesome man.

James

Robert Lundy Wilson
Robert Wilson was born near Galt, Ontario of Scottish ancestry. In 1907 he and his wife and daughter Bessie came to Parkland to visit Robert's sister, Mrs. George B. Thomson and family. He evidentaly liked what he saw in the West, as he went back to Ontario and sold his farm in Huron County and returned to parkland in 1908, where he bought SW 14-15-27-W4 from Ed Auclair. He also bought the homestead of Frank Auclair, NE 10-15-27-W4, across the road. He built an addition to the homestead house, but had to store the bulk of his furniture in the barn. A prairie fire came from the west burning the barn and all its contents. Robert was so engrossed with the barn that he forgot his crippled wife in the house. Jim Thompson remembered her and picked her up bodily, with no time to be gentle, and carried her out onto the potato patch, where he placed her in her wheel chair and covered her with a wet blanket. Fortunately the cultivated ground and fire-guard saved the house. Mrs. Wilson never forgave Jim for his rough treatment.
Since Robert was a carpenter, he built a large house with five bedrooms in 1916. He was secretary-treasurer of the Grassy Plains school district. Mrs. Wilson passed away in 1918, and after that he moved to Calgary where he later married again. The farm was worked by various farmers, and when Joe Straughan lived there, he planted lots of trees. After Robert's death, his daughter Bessie came back in 1942. She was talented in fancywork and hooked rugs. Bessie left her cousins Dorcas and Jane Wilson a legacy in her will. This they used as part payment on the two quarters. George Loree later bought Jane's share, and he and Dorcas have resided there since 1942.

There is a picture in the book of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson, 1915.

Have you checked with the municipality - Municpal Office -for the area - Genealogical/Historical society for the location.
Years ago - when I was searching for a book - that "didn't exist" or no one had same.
While on Vacation/reunion with cousins - we visited some of the small communities. One Municipal office had two copies - and were willing to sell me one. The other -had copy - and photo copied pages for me. Perhaps just a matter of luck - but worth a try
Cheers, Stella

Hi Stella, Yes, I checked all those places too, but I couldn't find one on line. I even checked my public library and my gen. soc. and they didn't have it either. Thank you for your help. I was hoping to come across someone that already had the book and would just look up hte page for me. I may have to do what Peter suggested and contact AB gen soc for a fee.

Thanks again!! :)
