de Winton or Winton

Hi, details I have on my great grandfather include that he is supposed to have been born at Peace River, near Winnipeg Canada. His name was Edward George de Winton (or sometimes just Winton) and he was born 22 April 1868. Ted is a bit of a mystery man. Family lore has it that he was born in Peace River, but he lists Liverpool England as his birthplace on his marriage certificate - then his death certificate, filled in by his daughter, shows Canada?? His date of birth changes along the way when he filled in his childrens birth registrations. Anyway, he is supposed to have left Canada at about the age of 8 and was apparently in London at some stage as he saw Queen Victoria on the balcony at the Palace. Then ... he is supposed to have stowed away on a ship bound for Australia when he was 14. That makes it about 1882/83. Don't know how correct these details are, so don't know if he stowed away from Canada or from England? No paperwork shows up for him between then and 1893 when he married. Realise this is a long shot, but I can't find any trace of his birth in England and was hoping someone may recognise the name. Regards, Megan

Could anyone give me information on what and where Peace River Country is? My grandfather, as a young man, traveled to Alberta Canada and lived there several years as a fur trapper and trader about 1910 or so. He returned back east about 1918. He left us with many many stories but we never really knew exactly where he was or what it was like there. He states he was "in Peace River Country, east branch of the Pine"
Would love to hear from someone from that area.

Peace River AB - 1965 - 1966

I'm trying to find my birth-father. I have a feeling from my research that he worked in the Peace River area late 1965/early 1966 during the oil boom in that area. My birth mother was seconded from Edmonton by AGT to work there for a period of time.

Info from CAS Non-identifying Info: BFather was born about 1941 in Alberta, both his parents were swedish and farmers. Could have been from the Westlock/Barrhead/Morinville area (but not confirmed) - seemed to be a lot of information about him and his family that only someone who knew him for a while could have known. He was about 5'-10" and 195 lbs with blonde hair and blue eyes and "a pleasant outgoing personality". Worked in the oil exploration field, was trained as a pilot (commercial?), played guitar, and bowled. Have an idea they met bowling (either in Edmonton or in Peace River) which would explain my wierd fascination with watching bowling on tv. He had one sister who was a nurse.

Sketchy info I know, but if anyone has any info on Peace River oil exploration, or flying clubs near there and Edmonton, or the western oil exploration industry at that time I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,
Brian

Macleans of Notikewin, Alberta

Searching for information on Grandfather: Alexander Hector Maclean, known as Sandy. He, as well as his children (Earl, Allan, Gordon and Eva) lived in this area in 1920-1946, owned land at ealier date and may have resided on land as early as 1907. They appear in index of book "Saga of Battle River: They Came, They Stayed." The problem is that my grandmother "came", but "didn't stay." My grandfather died 20 APR 1946 in Edmonton, still listing Notikewin as his home. I would love information on how to obtain this book, or what the information in the book states of my relatives. Thanks.

GEORGE W. PEARSON one of tghe early homestaders, came from Spokane, WA. He located on the S.E. 31-10-20-4. ;The Pearsons had 6 children, Laura, Lemuel, Mary, Dorothy, Felton and Hazel.

An advocate of irrigation he proposed ppumping water from the Old Man River tio irrigate the Battersea and Iron Springs areas. This was not feasible as of 1906, but he felt that irrigation was an absolute necessity if people were going to continue to live here. He was instrumental in introducing irrigation; in fact so instrumental that the local people refered to him as the "Father of Irrigation". During the period of contruction of the L.N.I.D. he lived on the N.W. 2-11-21-4, looking after the materials for the constructioon crews. He sold his homestead to J.B. Childers and eventually moved to California.

I would like to contact anyone who may have known of, or is descended from, Albert GILL. Albert visited my grandfather, George Frederick KEARNS and my gt uncle Robert John KEARNS in Strathmore, Alberta about 1937. Albert, b. 1902 at Colchester, Essex, ENG was the son of Emily Caroline KEARNS, d.1910 (sister of George and Robert) and George GILL, d. 1911. He had 4 siblings, Caroline Emily, Oliver George, Edward (twin to Albert) and William. All children were raised by their aunt, Margaret (KEARNS) WYATT, along with her 16 children! He is the only other known member of the KEARNS family to have emigrated to Canada. It is said he settled in the Peace River country. I have a photo of him in WW II Canadian military uniform. Any information on this person or his family, however small, would be very greatly appreciated. I can provide KEARNS family information.
