Does anyone have any information re Eliza Green who was born in England and married Charles Murdoch in Fort Macleod in 1892. She subsequently married Wallace Askey in Pincher Creek on November 30, 1899. Does anyone know what happened to Charles Murdoch? Does anyone have any information about Wallace Askey. I believe that he became the Indian Agent in Hobbema and married Blanche Mann after the death of his first wife. Please contact me at jmonk@shaw.ca

Need Help In Finding Abraham and Amanda Rutledge

In need help with finding two members of my family in Alberta Canada. The information I have is from a will for Amanda mother dated 1947 Lynn County Kansas. Abraham Lincoln and Amanda Myrtle Frear Rutledge left Kansas before 1920 and went to Ellensburg Kittitas County Washington in the late 1920’s they went to Alberto Canada. The will mentions that Amanda Myrtle Rutledge died March 18, 1942 in Alberto Canada it dose not say where in Alberto. The will dose mentions Abraham Lincoln Rutledge as living in Pincher Creek. I was hoping someone would look for an obituary for Amanda. Also it was common for this family to use middle names as their first names. How would I go about finding a death date for Abraham Lincoln Rutledge? Is there a 1930 Census for Alberto Canada?
Thank you for your help………Ruth in NY

My grandfather was sent to Canada at age 16 aboard the SS Victorian (in April 1910). He signed up for WW1 in Pincher Creek so I am presuming that from 1910 to 1914 he was in the Pincher Creek area working on a ranch. Any information on his whereabouts during that time would be appreciated.
Katrina Link

Hi Wendy, are you related to Mary Rowe?? I have been in contact with her and she is located in eastern Canada. We are related through the Gamache/Mayota(sp??) family. My grandfather was Edward Gamache (aka Edouard Mayotte) and he was located in Pincher Creek AB. We are still in the area. I will check for the name Poole. It sounds familiar. We are Metis but of the Cree, Santa Souix, and Ojibway lines. The Gamache line from eastern Canada (Ontario) are Ojibway and the woman he married (Elizabeth Pope) was Cree-Souix. Feel free to contact me at any time. Karen Gamache

Looking for info about Thomas Fredrick Pope, who was a member of the 1874 March West. He and his family ultimately settled in the Mountain Mill area near Pincher Creek. I am wondering if there is a write-up in any Pincher Creek local history books?

This Fred was a cousin of Senator Rufus Henry Pope, who with his son Desmond Ives Pope, was instrumental in the development of the Pope Lease Ranch.

There is supposed to be a write-up of Fred's son Fred Wilfred Pope in the book, Recollections of the Homestead Trails, of Mountain View county. Does anyone have a copy to do a
lookup?

Thank you. Rue

The homestaeder was Archibald H Harrison.
Was there a recognised "official" requirement for a birth registration and, if so, how can the record be located?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

About 1914 Nahor Watson Dilatush and his wife Mabel Vernow West from Mercer county, New Jersey, USA, moved to a half section of wheat land in St. Cloud, later they were said to be of Waterton Lake, Alberta. When she died in 1935, her obit in NJ said she was buried in Pincher's Creek Cemetery. I know their son Stanley moved to Washington State, USA and married Mildred Johnson there. I do not know what happened to the father Nahor Dilatush. I have just started on this family in Canada. Can someone tell me how to contact the Pincher Creek Cemetery? Is there a library near there?

Miner Brickyard circa 1903

I am seeking information on a brickmaking business that operated in Pincher Creek for a number of years beginning in 1903.

Two brothers of the famous naturist Jack MINER (of Kngsville Ontario) moved to Pincher Creek in 1903 bringing with them a brick making machine that was owned by the Miner Brothers in Kingsville.

They were my Great Grandparents George and Grace MINER (nee Jennings) and their very young family of Daisy and Mabel. While there a son named David Duncan Miner was born in June 1904 and died the same month. My Grandfather John Edward MINER was the next child born there in August 1905.George and his family returned to Kingsville Ontario sometime before their next child Harold was born in Sept 1907.

George was also accompanied by his older brother Amos MINER. Amos may have stayed on in Pincher Creek a few more years after George came home before he himself returned to Kingsville Ontario.

In 1952 my Grandfather John Edward Miner stopped in Pincher Creek while on a vacation, and his picture was taken in the spot the brickyard once stood. In 1952 is appeared to be little more than rubble brick.

In the 1920's or 30's their brother Jack stopped in Pincher Creek while on one of his national speaking tours and visited the operation. He made a reference in his memoirs to being there and "could hear the machine speaking to him". All of the MINER brothers knew brickmaking intimately as it had been their sole profession for nearly 45 years.

As well there may have been an Uncle or Brother in law named BROADWELL come with them and become involved in the operation as well.

I am seeking any information (good bad or otherwise) or pictures of the brickyard operation and George, Amos, and David Duncan.

Any assistance is appreciated.
Cheers
Dennis Miner
Hatfield @ Coleman

Margaret,

You may already have this information, however...

There is an Alfred Hatfield from Coleman who was a soldier during the first World War.
His attestation papers indicate he was in the 50th Battalion, Alberta.
http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc006/388778a.gif

Also, Alfred Hatfield is listed on the Alberta Nominal Rolls
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/data/rolls/nominal_ha.html

An interesting military site: The Museum of the Regiments in Calgary
http://www.nucleus.com/~regiments/kocr/kingsown.html
There are other sites that include information about the 50th Battalion.
Do a google search for "50th Battalion" Alberta
It seems reasonable that most soldiers had their pictures taken. Maybe there are some of this battalion in an archives someplace.

Note that the army training camp was Sarcee Camp.

There is also mention of Hatfield in the book, Crowsnest and Its People, which includes Coleman.
See
http://ahdp.lib.ucalgary.ca/loc_hist/index.asp
Then you can search the book for Hatfield.

Nancy
____________________________________________
Looking for information about Wheatland County? See
http://www.geocities.com/drnancytodd/strathmore/wheatlandcou...

TRUSCOTT, Catherine Laura

TRUSCOTT, Catherine Laura, died peacefully on July 11, 1999 at Royal Jubilee Hospital with her family by her side. Laura was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta, on March 7, 1912. She lived in Michel, B.C., until age 20, then moved to Trail and married Frederick Truscott. Ten years later, they came to the coast and made their home in Vancouver. Fred died suddenly in 1958, not three years after their fourth child was born. Laura stayed in Vancouver, working hard through difficult times as a single parent. She remained there until 1998, when she moved to Victoria. An angel in life and an angel now forever, Laura was dearly loved by her family and all those she touched. She will not be forgotten, for she is a part of us: her daughters Gail (Gerry) Tamburri and Glenda (David) Wilson; and sons Gordon (Isabelle) Truscott and Gerald (Christina) Truscott; her ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Victoria at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, (V8Y 1B4) on Saturday, July 17 at 11 a.m. A gathering will follow at the home of Gerald and Christina Truscott, 987 McBriar Ave., in celebration of Laura's life. The family gives special thanks to Dr. Karin Blouw, and the doctors and nurses of the Richmond Pavilion at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their kind and thoughtful care of our mother (and us) in her final days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Victoria Hospice, 1900 Fort Street, Victoria, V8R 1J8. FIRST MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICES 658-5244.

The above was posted in the "Vancouver Sun" newspaper, Vancouver, BC on 14 July 1999

Please do not contact this submitter for queries as I am not researching this line.
I am trying to find out who were the Parents of my ggf
HARRY SYLVANIS BIXBY, b: 8/3/1868, Sylvania, PA

d: 2/6/1910, Nevada, MO

buried, Grannum Cemetary
Supposedly he and his wife had land in/near Pincher Creek and after his death she supposedly married his brother FRANK D. BIXBY. Evidenlty the union was relatively short-lived as it wasn't long before she returned to the States. I have no further info on Frank. She had two children by HARRY S.--- HARRY LEE BIXBY and ROY HAW BIXBY. None by FRANK.

Did he have a premature death also?
Descendants of Jane Poole/Mailhotte

Hi! I'm looking for some information on a woman named Jane Poole. She moved from Edmonton into Pincher Creek sometime in the mid to late 1800's. It is possible that she married either a Gamache or a Mailhotte (this name has way more than one spelling) and was somehow connected to the Blackfoot Native tribe in the area. If you have any information, please contact me at my mom's address; she doesn't mind. Thanks in advance, Wendy.
