Bradshaw of Condor, Alberta (also Bassano connection)

I'm not actually related, but have a connection. The reason that I'm looking for relatives is because my father had some old pictures that aren't marked and I think that they relate to this family. My paternal grandfather was married to the sister of Alf Sr., back in England, where she died. My grandfather homesteaded in Alberta in 1909. He and my grandmother continued the relationship with the Bradshaw family. The Bradshaws came to Canada in 1911, first to Bassano, then to Hutton and Condor.

Alfred Bradshaw Sr. - died 1956, I think at Condor
Rebecca 'Flo' Bradshaw - died 1975, I think at Rocky Mountain House - buried there or Condor

Alfred Bradshaw Jr. - died 1980 and his wife, Lila (also died 1980) I think are buried at Hespro Cemetery near Condor

Percy Bradshaw (died 1975) and his wife, Evelyn (died 1988) - I think at Condor

Ethel Bradshaw (died after 1987) who was married to Clayton Galarneau, who died about 1987. They lived in Bassano.

Florence Bradshaw (died about 1989) who was married to David Jefferies and they lived in Calgary.

Charlie Bradshaw (died about 1984) and was married to Verna. I think they lived at Condor.

Adelbert Perrier, 1913, south end barbershop, Red Deer

Hello,
Adelbert, who went by Albert sometimes, owned the South End Barbershop in 1908. In 1913, his children were taken away by the Dept. On Neglected Children in edmonton. I remember seeing a newspaper article to this effect at one time and cannot find it again. There were 3 children involved-Thelma, Effie, and Edmond. I would like to know more about this event. Could anyone help find the article in probably the Edmonton Journal or Sun? I know that the mother had the children in 1912 but they had been separated for some time. I cannot find Adelbert on the 1906 or 1911 Censuses. At some point, Albert married Maude Bench and from what I understand, she looked after the children very well. I don't have any details on that marriage. Albert is supposed to have died July 9, 1953 but I don't know where.
Must be near Red Deer. I don't know about Maude's death.
I would be grateful for any help.
Peggy G.

Hi

Hope I have the correct board.

My late Grandmothers BOLTWOOD relatives emigrated to Canada in 1905. In 1906 and 1911 Census they are in Manitoba.

I found mention of them in 'Red Deer' on here, which was great! However the 'look up' e-mail address is coming back unknown.

Details:

BOLTWOOD Henry born 1864 in Sydney Australia

BOLTWOOD Florence Matilda (nee Bogg) born 1870 in London UK
Grandmothers Aunt.

Children of Henry and Florence:

BOLTWOOD Charles Gordon born 1898 in London UK
? died in Florida USA ?

BOLTWOOD Frank Augustus born 1903 in London UK
Married = Evelyn nee?
Children ?

Two of Florences sisters also emigrated:
Hilda Agnes Bogg = Harry WEBB died in Winnepeg - followed that line and did not get far. but better than nothing!
and
Dorothy BOGG born 1890 London UK - Dorothy is on 1911 Census
Did she marry? She is on the 1911 Census

I would be grateful to be pointed in right direction to find any more children or grandchildren etc.
Or any advice/help please.

The family were not aware of my Grandmothers existence.

Many thanks
Rosemary Eng UK
I'm looking for Gust Nelson born in Sweden 1871 who came to N.America 1892.

The man I'm looking for could have changed his name from Gustaf Salomonsson, his father's name was Nilsson and it is possible that he used that name, but spelled Nelson.

Gustaf Salomonsson was born in Hulu, Bosebo parish, Jönköpings län feb 25, 1871. He travelled with his brother Axel and came to Ellis Island, NY May 9, 1892 with steamer "SERVIA". He is listed in Ellis Island records as "Gust. Solomonson".

I found a Gust Nelson in Red Deer, AB and seeking this way to determine if it might be the man I'm looking for.

He had some contact with a niece in Sweden who lived in either "Håcksvik" or "Våthult" so if anyone recognizes those names from letters or postcards please write. I know that 'my' Gust lived in Alberta and had two sons, at least one served in WW II. That is all I know at the moment.

/Thomas Edwass

My grandfather Edmund James Ash married Alice May b. in Kentucky 1889. If anyone has any info about her please let me know. I've been looking for anything about her for some 3 years now. I have pictures of her and in one of them there is an older white-haired woman, they are id'd on the back as Alice AND Grandma May, no first name, and I can't find her in the 1906 census where I found Alice. In 1901 Census there appears an Alice May, 17 with the Lemuel and Rachel Holden family. The age is right but I'm not sure it is her.

This poor child died as an infant sister to my grandfather. I have no record of her first or middle names or even an actual date for birth or death. Can someone tell me if there was specifically a cemetery the Icelandic or Scandanavian communities used for burials in Red Deer? The only information I know besides birth/death year of 1888 was that she was born and died in Red Deer.

A question

Hi, my name is Jeff Long and I used to live in Wainwright, Alberta but now currently live in Fort St. John, B.C. One of my best friends, Allison Luk, currently lives there in Red Deer, however during my
moving into a new place, around the same time she was, we lost contact with each other, and I've sent a letter to her old adress, in hopes that it'd get passed on to her new adress, but that was months ago and
I still have no heard a reply.

I was wondering if there was anyone who, if I provided some ifnormation to, would be able to see if her, or anyone from her family still lives at a certian adress.

Her name is Allison Luk, 20 years old, has a younger sister named Savanna Luk who is I think 19, maybe 18 years old. Their mom, who's name I don't know, has a boyfriend who's name is (I think) Dave, however I don't know his last name.

I know this isn't the usual kind of question you people get on these boards, but if anyone can help me out, that'd be extreamly great. I have a couple of her old adresses, so if someone would be willing to see if ehr or her family still lives at either of them, and give them my contact info, then please e-mail me at desperado.newfie@gmail.com

Any help is GREATLY apprechiated.

I have quite a number of VERY old photos that the family would possibly like. I also have the marriage certificate that is in German it states they were married in Indianna. I was hoping to give these to either their grandchildren or great-grandchildren. I may have some other family papers that may be of interest.

Hi, a nice woman just alerted me to two books on Alberta local history (Red Deer area) that may mention a family link I've been trying to find. There are two books that mention his name:
Candlelight Years: Red Deer and Grub-Axe to Grain: Red Deer. The name is Cecil O. Savage. He is listed as C.O. Savage in the former. I'd be ever so grateful if anyone with these books could let me know what they say of Mr. Savage. Thank you so much in advance. Please reply to: tracy@timetoshine.com
Tracy

Grandfather Miller died in Sylvan Lake around 1955 and Grandmother Miller died in Red Deer sometime in November of 1958. I would really like to find out more of this side of my family.
Meyer family in Red Deer, Alberta

I am hoping to find someone who can tell me something about my grandmother's side of the family. My Grandmother's maiden name was Viola Meyer(s?). She was born in Red Deer, Alberta and married Samuel Lemuel Barkley (possibly in Red Deer?). I am hoping to find out her parents' names and where they are from. Does anyone know anything about this family? My grandmother had a sister named Christine, who I believe is still living. Her last name would be Mayhew now. I have tried contacting her with no luck as of yet.

Thanks so much in advance!

Emigration to Red Deer circa 1895 what was it like?

Hello

I am trying to figure out the in and outs of travel to Red Deer from England in about 1895. I have a single man who has gone out there with no land and then returned in 1897 to marry and take his new wife back to Red Deer.

I know that the population of Red Deer at that time was less than 200, and it must have been an incredible adventure to go and live there not to mention the hardships people must have suffered.

I am having trouble finding out what life was like and where people would have sailed to. There is a lot on information on the internet but I am overwhelmed by it and also don't have the basic facts yet so don't know what to look for!

Can anyone advise me as to where to look? I would love to know
Which Port would have been the likely one of arrival for Alberta
How long it took to sail from England ( how much ?)
Generally what life would have been like!

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful!

Thanks
Emma
I am seeking information regarding the family of my Paternal Grandfather, Bertie Riley, believed to have been born about 1890. He was believed to have been the Son of Frederick and Annah Riley of Hoxton in London. Bertie Riley was believed to have served with the South Wales Borderers during WW1. He was taken prisoner and wounded. His occupation was taxi driver, but I believe he may have been an ambulance driver during WW2. All information will be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking information regarding my maternal Grandfather, Adolph Kohler. I understand he was born in England, although I understand his Father was German by birth. I further undestand that my Grandfather was employed as a lead glasier until he retired aged about 72. It is possible that he served with the British forces during world war one, possibly with the Middlesex Regiment. The information I have is sketchy, but I believe his father owned a bakery in south London, where my grandfather may have worked with his brother (possibly William) as a child.

Hello, I am looking for information on Mercy WHITFORD born ca. 1795 in Rhode Island. She was listed in an 1850 Census, Sandwich Massachusetts, with Sarah WILLIS, Eldred WILLIS and Mary WATERS in the household of Ebenezer WATERS, a mariner. All mentioned were listed as Mulatto. It is believed the mixture is White/Native Ameerican. Hope to hear from someone.

I am interested in finding any information about Christina. She was born prior to 1941 possibly around the Innisfail area and likely on a farm. I only have her mother as Mrs. Conn, I cannot read her first initial it is too unclear. I have several documents regarding her that lack vital information in helping me to find her or her family. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who thinks they may know her or her family. I would love to get in touch with them.

I'm looking for info on a court case involving Joseph Audley Pierce in Drumheller. I believe there are citations in the Drumheller Mail on Dec. 13 and Dec. 27, 1928. There is also supposed to be a report of the trial and sentence on Jan 8 or 9, 1929, perhaps there or in the Red Deer paper.
