Hi Liz
My grandfather emigrated to Cavendish from Nebraska in 1911. Their home burnt down about twelve years later and the Red Cross relocated them to Luceland, Sask. I was there a few years ago and felt so sorry for them and could only imagine how hard the life was for them. My mother was right when she said there was sagebrush, cacti and rattlesnakes, no water and no crops.
I am off there the end of the week with two of my children so they can see where the family started their Canadian adventure and hope they have more appreciation for their ancestors hard work in settling the West.
We will be taking some photos if you are interested in seeing them will send them to you.
