Hello, I have just returned to my Akitt family and reread your message.I think I am near to contacting Wilson Akitt's grand daughter.Wilson wasmy great uncle, his sister,Mary, married Henry Ellis in Chester 1898.I do have the Alberta gen.soc, cemetery report of his memorial, which just seemed to be;; Akitt, William, oct 1877 - 26 april 1949.They admitted the discrepancy between Wilson and William, but as he was referred to locally as Wil, or Wis, it is not surprising.Tell me is your tree near to mine?? John Akitt(b1845) and Hannah Jenkinson (b1850) are my great grand parents. carolyn.

Hi
I am also a Pecknold. My father was the youngest of the Pecknold brothers and sisters (seventeen)

. Alfred Abraham Pecknold was my Grandfather. Abraham was one of my father older brothers. My father Wilfred was the first one born in Canada in 1914. I am the youngest of the first Generation of Cousins 56. The next generation of cousins were 100 + at last count. I don't know how many third cousins.

I don't know who if anyone has an official family history. However I do know that Alfred Abraham was the last of the Pecknold family. He and my Grandmonther moved to Weignwright Alberta and are both found in the cemetary there. The Maj. as everyone in the family called him was in the Royal Irish Rifles. He was the last RSM of the Royal Irish Rifles in Poona India.

I hope this helps.

According to his death certificate online, Alexander Gordon Gunn was born in Alberta on Feb. 10, 1920, the son of William Gordon Gunn. Alexander was a soldier in WW2 and died at 23 years in hospital in London, England on April 23, 1943, apparently of cancer. He was buried in Surrey, England on April 28, 1943. I have Gunns from Wainwright related to me by marriage but have not been able to link this particular family.

Hi,

Not sure if this link will work, but I went to the Wainwright Public Library's website and clicked on the link to their digitized newspapers (over 100 years's worth!), popped 'Fred Skinner' into the search and a whole page of mentions came up. Here is the url of the search results. Hope it works: http://canada.arcasearch.com/wcc/initArcaCode.asp

Funny; the first entry I saw was, "Fred Skinner was lucky enough to catch a young crane Saturday..."

It took me less than five minutes to access the info.
Good hunting :)

Hi

the 22 in Ontario are not necessarily related all to each other (but are separate clans). I'm one, but not listed (name changed due to marriage). One of my brother's is unlisted, the other has 2 listings.

I have NO personal knowledge of many other relatives using this surname (women, now married; a few men (seniors, and they may be gone now). This part of the clan is not "close" by any definition.

Hillsburgh, Erin, Peel, Wellington Cty, Victoria Cty/Kawartha Lakes, ONTARIO.

I do have some info on the 1850's forward Akitt clan from Ontario (regions as above). Very few left to speak of.
Some photo's as well (Elizabeth, William, etc).

Hi :)

If you know that any of those relations were in the Wainwright area, you should go to the Town of Wainwright Library page and access their free online archives of the Wainwright Star Chronicle newspaper. I've found that many marriage announcements, birth announcements and obits can be found in there easily by doing a search. They have over 100 years of local history, all neatly collected and downloadable for free in one location. It is amazing!

Good Luck
:)

Hello Peter, thanks for replying.I am interested in people who were friends, neighbours of my gt uncle,Wilson Akitt, and are mentioned in Across the Years.Joshua Jenkinson, was his uncle, from Cockermouth, Cumberland.Joshua's wife Augusta and daughter, Alberta, I know very little of. The Strachan family from Scotland all sailed over together and Norman was executor for Wilson's will.(1911 census)The Sewell family were in- laws, (1916census) One more family!!, the Sayers wrote very kindly about Wilson as their neighbour. That is more than enough, but to me it is so lovely to know that he had many good friends when his own family were far away. I often wonder if his son John Wilson Akitt ever visited? thankyou again, regards, carolyn.

O.k. here's what I know for sure Stella.
My Great Grandmother was Born Emma Long, born in the US and she married Harry Miller born in Frankfort Ill. My grandmother moved to Barriere with us in the late 70's I would say. She lived in Czar, Alberta at that time. She died in Prince George, B.C. in 1987.
She married Harry Miller and I do have the date but can remember at this time. He left his family and I'm not sure about anything after that. I was told that he died in 1968 in Salem, Washington County, Indiana.
I'm sure that if I found family, they may be able to clear up some details of his life. You also found some info for me on my grandfather Clarence Elford Miller who was Harry and Emma's son, he also left his family early and disappeared. Seems like there's a pattern emerging. I know all the details of my great grandmother's death and burial but can't find anything on Harry.

Where ? was your GGrandmother born ?
When? Where ? was she married?
When? Where ? were your grandparents born?
If your Ggrandparents have passed away
When?
Hi,Teaching in the Middle East - how interesting.
When I mentioned searching the City Directories - that was really meant for others - who live in the area - and who may be reading the message. Some people are very kind - and make offers - [that had been my reasoning ]- I know that many people who post to these message board are not at the location where they are requesting a search.

I did search the Provincial Archive of B.C. Vital Events Index: -Marriage 1859-1934 Birth 1872-1903 Death 1872-1989
That was the reason I asked for a date of birth /year.
There are some similar names -
Posting to the Canada GenWeb Message Board - might be helpful.

Canada GenWeb messages are Gatewayed to the Rootsweb Canada GenWeb Mail list - which in turn is gatewayed to other Provincial mail lists - those that accept gatewayed messages - giving you a much greater chance for success.

Have you searched U.S. Social Security Index? online

Cheers, Stella
