DEFOREST FAMILY of CLARESHOLM - Nova Scotia 1908 picture rescued.

Hello,

I have in my possession, an old family photo of the Deforest Family, it was taken in a parlour setting with a father and a mother and 3 children the girl looks to be about 12 and the 2 boys look to be one about 16 and the other about 20yrs. the father figure sports a moustache and beard. This family went to Alberta from Nova Scotia, I presume Colchester County as they were friends to my great grandparents and that is where they lived. It was taken on Dec the 28th 1908. It reads on the back.
We all wish you a Happy Prosperous New Year. If you can help please contact me at : jennill@cogeco.ca

Thank you
Kim in Ontario

I would like to know a date for my Great Aunt's marriage, Lottie, may be Charlotte, Coleman and Wilford George. I have the year of about 1923.
Hi all,

looking for any information about Jonas Johnson (sometimes spelled Johnston)
also known as Joe Johnson. In Nov 1914 Jonas Johnson (aged 31) married my
great grandmother Augusta Thompson (listed as 42 years but actually 47, a
widow with 5 children - her oldest Alf being only 8 years younger than Joe)
in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Jonas is listed as being born in Sweden. In 1917
they are listed as living in Onoway, AB. They are back in Fort Macleod in
the 1920's. Augusta died in Ponoka in 1936 (she was committed there by Joe
in 1932). Joe died sometime after 1965 and before 1979, probably in
Lethbridge or area. I am looking in particular for his date of death so I
can track down an obit or funeral home records.

Best Wishes for the Holiday Season!

Thelma
Jane(y) Ross in Claresholm

This is a real "needle in the haystack" search. I

'm looking for records of my great-aunt Janey Ross. She was b.1858 in Nova Scotia and moved to Claresholm, date unknown. My great-gran Mary J. Ross visited her at her home in Claresholm probably around 1900 with my grandmother Ellen Mae Ross who would have been around 4. I don't know if Janey was married.

I've tried the LDS 1881 Canada census records for "Jane Ross" and "Janey Ross" and came up blank for any province. Anyone have access to death records? Cemetery records? (Did I mention this is a real needle in the haystack search??) Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Lynn

Thompson - Margaret daughter of Augusta

Hello,
my great Aunt Margaret Thompson moved to the Macleod/ Beaver Creek area in 1907 at the age of 3 (?). Her mother, Augusta Thompson, a widow, brought her family of 5 children to Alberta and homesteaded in 1908 very close to the old Johnson sawmill in Beaver Creek. Margaret had 3 brothers (Alf, Mart, and Roy) and one sister, Helen. She attended Beaver Creek School with her brothers, Mart and Roy and her sister, Helen. I have a picture that I will gladly share of the class there in about 1911 to 1915.
We have no idea what happened to Margaret and would greatly like to know. She was alive in 1930 (her brother Alf's obit lists 2 sisters and 2 brothers as surviving him). Rumor has it that she may have trained to be a nurse. We have been told that when Mrs. Burton (nee Bell) was working or training in a Calgary hospital Margaret was a patient there and died of pnuemonia. We believe that she died relatively young as none of her nieces or nephews have any memories of her.

Any information, stories or memories about her would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Thelma Hartman

Alf worked in the Gap (by the Oldman River and Dutch Creek), served in the army in 1917/18 (at Ft.
I am searching for any information on my grandparents RODERICK & MARY ANN "ANNIE" (MACDOUGALL) MACLEOD. Their children were Alroy b. 1899, Mildred Evelyn b. 1901, Melvin b. abt 1903, and Norman Clayton b. abt 1913. I don't know when the family moved to Granum, but
"Rod" MacLeod, Mary Ann MacLeod, Mrs. Alroy MacLeod and Norman Clayton MacLeod are all buried in the Granum Cemetery. Mildred was my mother and she died in California in 1936. I would very much appreciate any help in my search and will be happy to share what I have.

Ann (Dawson) Erickson

Hello,

I am looking for info on family that homesteaded in the Granum / Clarasholm / Stavely / WillowCreek area. My great grand parents William Power and Nora Tanquina Power are of great interest to me. My Ggrandmother Nora was also known as "Rainbow" to the locals I am told. I have also been told that info on my family can be found in a couple of books that have been done on families in the area.....but I don't know the names of those books!! Very frustrating... Also I am told that a local person thought so highly of Rainbow, that she wrote a poem about her, I would also love to read that poem! :) The Museum used to have a lot of pictures of my family, but my cousin Eileen Fox tells me that a recent curator BURNED a lot of old documents and homesteaders pictures... I hope to God that isn't true!

Through internet research I have learned that one of my relatives Herman Penzloff, is mentioned in a book called:
"Where the Wheatlands Meet The Range" but I do not know the Author of the book. Any one with info on who the Author is , or where I can purchase a copy of it would be greatly appreciated. Am willing to send copies of all family info thru snail mail or email to anyone who is related :) Looking for info on William Power, Nora Tanquina Power (Rainbow), Herman Penzloff, Helen Carlsberg, and Oscar Barley.

Thank you and good luck in your search for your roots too!

Young Thomas resided at the Fort Shaw Indian School while his parents lived in or near Havre, Montana.
His father returned to Canada in 1900 and married Agnes McIvor in 1901 and they lived in Ft Macloud. It is not known if Thomas Jr married or had children. His father was my grt. grandfather.
