Edson Hospital

Am i right in thinking that Edson is an AB hospital? As well having a lot of CNR photos in the boxes I'm working on there are a number of patients at Edson, and I'm wondering if that would as a result of some kind of accident on the railroad?

The person the photos originally belonged to was a steel bridge engineer for many many years, and for much of it lived and worked in BC. (hence my attempting to post this msg to both lists... attempting!)

As I get them scanned I'm more than happy to post the links and see if anyone recognises any of the gentlemen in the Edson pictures. It'd be nice to put names to their faces.

Sally

I grew up with stories about the dirt floor shack in Carrot Creek AB, in which my father came into the world. When I was about 10 years old we went on a driving holiday - the highlights of which were a visit to said shack, by his best estimations, the town of LOVE and a visit to our allegedly namesaked town, Radway. I am looking for people who might know something about my family. My father, Kenneth Jean Radway just turned 72, strong as an ox and still very reluctant to share anything about his familial history.... any takers????

Would someone assist an easterner with a more exact location of Solomon Creek within Alberta. I have a photo from the late 1800's or early 1900's of a family tenting in the wilderness. On the back is handwritten "At camp on the Solomon Creek, Alta."
I am researching the Cadotte, Darby, Flockhart and Reekie families from Northern Ontario (Massey ON) and this was found in boxes of unidentified photos from our old family home. I am not sure of the connection with Alberta as I don't know of any of those families moving west.
If anyone from the area could help me out it would be much appreciated.

Gail Darby

Can anyone tell me how to find out about how people filed for homesteads in the area of Edson in the years from around 1910/1912? Was called "Heatherwood" before it was changed to Edson...........all the cordinates for land show only "Grand Pacific Railway" or something of that nature so was possibly an area in the outer parimeters of of Edson proper? I see every village or town in the lists accept one for Edson.........was this so bad and area that the railway sold off the lands?

Thank You,
Linda

He grew up in Edson and went to school there around 1917 to 1930. I would like to know who these people are. Some of them have first names, but no surnames. I would like to post them to an "Alberta, who are these faces" web site, but I can not find one. Any suggestions ?

I am searching for family of Harley O. Shields b. 1863 who was married in 1889 to a Lily Platt b. 1870. They may have been from Indiana in the U.S. then moved to Alberta, Canada. They had three children, Hattie, Pearl, and Raymond. I am also seeking verification that Harley's parents were John Hial Shields b. 1824 & Elizabeth Harriet Lakin b. 1842.
Millar surname

My Great-grandmother was Fanny Lea Millar. She lost W.A. Millar in a ship accident at sea. She married a Walter George Trench and left him and moved to Canada in the earyl 1900's. She went to Edson/Edmonton areas. She had a son Will Millar who had a store in the area (drug store or hardware , I think). She also had a daughter, Fanny Millar who married Jack Hodkinson. There were two children of Grt-granny's by George Trench...Ruby Gwendolyn Lea who preferred to use the Millar name and George, who probablly used Trench later in his youth. Interested in your Millar connection!

Millar surname

Seeking family information to Fanny Millar Born in England, 1868 and died in Edmonton-Edson area in 1935. Had son William Millar and a daughter Fanny Miller, who married Jack Hodgkinson ; both born in England to W.A. Millar, who died at sea. Mrs. Fanny Millar re-married a Walter George Trench and had two more children living, Ruby Gwendolyn Lea Trench (went by Ruby Millar) and George Trench ( maybe a Walter George, also) who went by name of George. Fanny Millar left Walter George Trench and left England for Canada in the early 1900's (say 1905-1915). She took all the children to her sister's in Edmonton and on to Edson.
Grandma Ruby grew up a tomboy and loved Canada! She married Artur Raymond (Ray) Thompson in 1918 in Edson. Any people with these surnames or who know of them, please contact me. I'm doing Grandma's family for my Mother, Frances Alberta Thompson. She is 180 years old and lives in Seattle, Washington.
