"uncle" Henry COUCH Ontario to Saskatchewan

Hoping to find more information about “uncle” Henry Couch who appears on the 1911 Census of Canada for Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (?). Looks like “uncle” Henry Couch is living with the Dodman family who are neighbors too Harry Couch & Mary (Dodman) Couch including their son, Cyril Odin. We’re thinking “uncle” Henry Couch is the brother of Harry Couch’s father, Joseph Couch who has parents, Richard & Mary Couch. Joseph Couch can be found on the 1901 Census of Canada for Perth South, Hibbert. His son, Harry is listed here as Henry and there are “links” between the 1901 Perth, ON and 1911 Moose Jaw, SK census too. Any small leads towards connecting “uncle” Henry Couch as a brother to Joseph Couch and his parents, Richard & Mary Couch are more than welcomed. It would appear that Richard & Mary Couch had born Joseph Couch in 1836 in England then immigrated to Canada around 1847-50 and had born “uncle” Henry Couch 1847 in Ontario. That would mean the parents are likely buried in Ontario if not Canada. The enumerator wrote on the 1901 Perth South, Hibbert census that Joseph Couch immigrated in 1850.

1911 Census of Canada
Saskatchewan, Moose Jaw
Couch Harry
Couch Mary
Couch Cyril
Dodman
Dodman Elizabeth
Couch Henry, “uncle”, Dec, 1847, 63 (enumerator wrote born in Ontario)

Regards,
Dan Kennedy
London, Ontario
couchresearch@gmail.com

UK not sure where or when
Helen SERVANTE b. UK poss Hampshire

Not sure when or where they married, they had 4 sons, b. 1864-1869.
In 1871, the 4 boys are living with their maternal grand-parents in the UK and my uncle believes both the parents have died (between 1869 and 1871) in Canada and the children were sent back to England.

Can anyone help with:
1) death records for the parents?
2) poss marriage records for parents? (they may have married in the UK but can't find it so far)
3) birth records for children?
4) entry and exit records for parents and children?

Or can anyone help direct me to online resources that might help?

[I have found Lovell's annual which gives a poss Thomas Morland snr in Montreal from the late 1840's]

Thanks in advance for any help, kt:)

Rescued Photo, Ukrainian/Canadian Roots PROCECHEN/PROCYSHYN Surname.

I previously posted this, in 2004, however I came upon some more information and I'd really like to find family to return this to. The original information is below.

I rescued an old wedding photo, from the very early
1900s. Written on the back is Maftey Procechen Canada
1932,Daughter's Marriage. The 32 is scratched out.

Now I only recently came across the name Maftey, both as a given name and as a surname, with Ukrainian roots.
Some people have been kind enough to send information on the name Procechen, as probably being misspelled, and offer these spellings:Procyshen, Procyshyn, and Procyszyns, all Ukrainian.

This photo is unique in the fact that it's of the bride, groom, bridal party and all of the guests, including a band, posing in front of a house, that has what appears to be a very large ditch in front of it. I'm assuming now, that the father of the bride, was named Maftey PROCYSHYN. (Or a variation of the spelling).

I'd like to find someone from the family who would like to have it. Please contact on board, so I can keep a better record of who's contacting me, and send an e-mail to: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

I've hit a brick wall and I need help or advice.

I have hit a brick wall and exhausted any ideas of how to get past it, I hope someone can give me some advice.
Here it is:
I need to be able to verify the mother of Thomas Corbett in order to continue researching the Corbett family. The marriage record has his father listed as Thomas and his mother's name is very hard to decipher. (It is available on the ancestry.ca website if you'd wish to take a look at it.)

According to the 1901 Census, Thomas Corbett was born April 1, 1862, NS.
When he died in 1906 the cemetery records show he was born in Gaspe, Quebec. The marriage records also show he was born in Gaspe, Quebec.
His father's name is definitely Thomas and I have found 2 Thomas Corbett's with sons' named Thomas in Quebec in 1862 & 1863.
Thomas born in Port Daniel on January 29, 1862 to Thomas and Isabella Corbett.
Thomas born in Gaspe, Rimouski, on April 22, 1863 to Thomas and Julia Corbett.
I do not know of any siblings of Thomas so I can't match the family. I have searched for the church records in Kenora, Winnipeg & Toronto and they tell me there are no church marriage certificates for 1889, Rat Portage, Ontario.
I have his death record from the cemetery and there is no information about his parents. They didn't mention anything in the local paper about his parents or where he was born.
Does anyone have any idea how I can verify Thomas's mother or verify what that name is on the marriage record.

Any advice or help is GREATLY appreciated.

Laureen Parsons
I am trying to connect my ancestor Benjamin Potts to a British Loyalist who fled to Canada prior to the revolutionary war. The loyalist may have been his father, John Potts. Benjamin had married and lived in New Jersey, US, up to about 1803, he then moved to the Dominian of Canada, where he remained until the outbreak of the war, removing back to the states and settling in Ohio. I believe he was living close to his father, for his first child born in Canada was given the name John. it has also been said that Benjamin was the nephew to Isaac Potts, the Quaker who once housed George Washington in Valley Forge during the revolutionary war.
Or perhaps Benjamin lived near his wife's family Pear/Peer. Any help would be appreciated
Thank you,
Sharon Corcoran of Buchanan Co. Iowa

I am looking for information on my ancestors. Here is what I know...
David Morin married a girl from the Maniwaki Indian Reserve by the last name of Barrett. They had 5 children (that I am aware of).
4 Daughters - Bea, Marie Luce, Anna and Mai all moved to Ottawa with their mother (time frame unknown)
1 Son - David who moved away to Sudbury (time frame unknown).
My mother told me that David Morin (father) was an electrician and that the son left the household at an early age and moved to Sudbury.
None of the daughters (including my grand mother) have ever really talked about him. All I know about the son is he was tall, blonde hair, blue eyes and very attractive.
The daughters all stayed in touch over the years. The last of the daughters (Mai) passed away just this week.
Out of all the children of David and Mrs Barrett - only 2 (that I am aware of since no info has ever been given about David the son) had children.
Anna had one son who passed away about 8 years ago of a brain anurism and Marie Luce Morin had one daughter Louise my mother), who still lives in the Ottawa area.
If anybody has any information regarding this familly (especially David Moring the son) that would be greatly appreciated....

Trying to find Anthony Colosky and family. He supposedly came into Toronto from Prussia around 1830. Later some of the family went to Minnesota around 1880. My great grandmother Mary Ann Colosky married Frederick Harris in MN in 1882. Am most wanting names, places and dates on Anthony, his wife, children and their ancestors. Rumor has it that his wife was Irish but I don't know if that is true.
There may be various spelling for both Anthony and Colosky. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sharon

I don't know where to begin. I am so lost on my great grandfather Henry George Thompson (b. 17 Feb 1860). According to my grandmother, he stowed away on ship from England when he was about 12. According to his death certificate, he was born in London, England. His parents were Robert and Anna (Root) Thompson, both born in London England. Apparently, he was found on the ship and sent to a Canadian Catholic School for Boys. Is there any place to search for these types of school and if my great grandfather was ever enrolled in them?

Thanks,

Kathy Meyer

March 22, 1900, 1 year

1911 Canadian Census, Hibbert Township, South Perth County, Ontario, Canada, shows new child, Gladys Hall, living with Hannah South (correct spelling of South surname is Couch).
Head: Hannah South, b. April, 1839, 72 years
Granddaughter: Gladys Hall, b. February, 1902, 9 years

Possible 1906 Canadian Census, William James Hall, living Prince Albert, Saskatchewan immediately after Glady Hall’s birth in 1902 (?).
LINDSAY, Alfred Joseph

Try to find information about ancestor, Alfred Joseph Lindsay who appears in the 1920 RI census with wife, Anna SAVAGE and their children in Providence. Alfred is listed as b. Canada and mother language French. Wife, Anna is listed as born RI and mother language French. Her father may have been John Savage and mother (per birth cert) was Sylia which I have to believe was a first name although entered in the maiden name slot. I am very ignorant of FrancoCanadian matters and am trying to figure out why a presumably Irish man named Lindsay would claim French as his native language. Then I have Anna L. Savage also claiming French as her native language which is believable if her name had changed from Sauvageau or something similar, or if she too is an Irish SAVAGE who was raised in a French environment. Can anyone enlighten me? Anyone seen these names in French family trees? I will appreciate any and all input or information about this mysterious couple who individually migrated into Lowell, Mass., married there and ultimately moved to Providence, RI. by 1920.

By 1860 he was living in Mackinac, Michigan with his wife, Charlotte Martin (her dad was Solomon Martin, born abt. 1796 somewhere in Canada).
Missing Link in Canadian Dodd Family tree

I've been independently researching my ancestors and slowly building my family tree from scratch over the past two years. Thanks to resources at the local LDS family history center I have discovered answers and a local grave of an unknown relation.

While reading another book on geneology, I've stumbled across this website last night. Within minutes of plunking away names I was staring at my ancestral family tree submitted by Stephen Biggs. I am your missing link! I could not contain my excitement when I realized I had found a living family connection.

Anyone with information about the decendants of George Dodd (1868-1910)from Caterham, Surrey, England and Amelia Elizabeth Buckle (1874-1891)from Croyden, Surrey, England, please contact me to share more info. and compare family trees. The family migrated to Canada via Montreal in the 1900's to Ontario and later out west to BC.

Also looking for unknown living Canadian relatives with connections to George and Amelia Dodd's children:
--Jack and Kitty Ion from ON (children Beverely and Marilyn from first marriage and Jack and Laura Ratcliffe from second marriage from Hamilton ON)
-- Joseph and Midred Dodd from Grimsby ON, (son named Brian or grandson BJ??)
-- Daisy and Herbert Gunson from Godstone England
-- Deloris and Arthur Ward from Victoria BC??(son Kenny??
-- Ethel and James Walter Hutchins from Brixton (children and grandchildren of the Biggs family, including Stephen Biggs)

I am your link to sibling Frank and Agnes Dodd from ON. I am so excited to hear from you.

If anyone has access to the Books of Remembrance mentioned on the Canadian Veterans web site, I would appreciate either a digital scan or a simple typed transcription of the information for 4 cousins who died in combat:

(1) Leo J. Robert Gregoire of Brit Col who died on a bombing mission - (Second World War, page 520)
(2) Simeon Gregoire of Thetford Mines who died during World War I (First World War, page 95)
(3) Joseph R. Lemire of Wotton, QC - (Second World War, pg 90)
(4) Jean-Paul Houle of Victoriaville (Second World War, pag 339)

I am a Carmelite nun just outside of New Orleans.
Travel and/or other means of access to these sources is impossible for me. I depend on the generosity of those willing to help. Thank you VERY MUCH.

Sister Therese Gregoire, O.Carm.
Lacombe, Louisiana

Gloria Wise

Looking for the sister of Gloria Wise. We believe she lives somewhere in Canada, along with our extended Jewish family. The family may be of Polish or Russian decent. Gloria was born in 1928 in New York. Gloria was raised by a foster family and the sister we're looking for was raised by their biological mother. Gloria and her sister have the same mother, but different fathers. Gloria moved from New York to California when she was 18, where she married Clarence Wise. Gloria and Clarence moved to a small town in Illinois in 1969, where Gloria still lives. We believe Gloria's maiden name might have been "Rosanne" or "Rosenblatt." The mother's name might be "Alice" and the sister's name may be "Roslyn", but we're not sure. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Barry Wise

Seeking information: Ann PATRICK living in 1861 Ellice, Perth, Ontario with HAGERTY family

Would love info about Ann Patrick, my husband's great great aunt. Ann was born 1841 in New Dublin, Leeds & Grenville (near Brockville) and was on 1851 L&G census. Something happened in the family (mother died?) and the girls went to live with other families - Ann went to Perth to Hagertys, probably as a servant. Ann married Owen CONNELLY from Ellice in 1861. They moved to Bay City Michigan where they settled and died. Would love to know if anyone has a story in their Hagerty family about Ann Patrick living with the Hagertys in Ellice. I have their whole story in Michigan but would like some details about Ann's early life! Thanks.
Bonnie Patrick
Elora, Ontario, Canada
