Remember that we were Upper and Lower Canada at this point in time..... I have Irish folk that came in 1853 and they went to Bytown which is now Ottawa, so you may want to check out this location. Where did they immigrate from?
I can't remember the exact date that Ontario/Quebec were formed into confederation. Google search might help you
