"As in England and Ireland, I know there it is said 'County This or That'"

In England, it is only County Durham that is said that way. Other counties are simply known by their name: Essex, Norfolk, Staffordshire, etc. Why not leave off the word "county" altogether to simplify things?

If you want specific advice about the genealogy software you're using, post on the Genealogy Software Boards.
