Marquis Campbell has been written about in "Our Roots" by the late Evelyn Brawn. He married late in life and retired to Winnipeg. He and his wife had no children.

Rev. Alexander Campbell was a resident of Marsden, Sk. when he died in Lashburn, Sk. in 1918.
Eleanor Woodside Campbell was a resident of Winnipeg when she died there in 1924.
Both parents of this household are buried at some cemetery in Wolseley, Sk. according to their death notices.

I would like some information on the following family. Railton or Rainton Thompson born in Ontario in 1871 son of Joseph Thompson and Mary Shephard of Scugog Township.

His last known address was Northeast Street, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. I do not know the name of his wife but there was one son named Archie.

Thomas was born in Holland Twp, Ontario, 31 Mar 1843 to Patrick Brennan and Mary Ann Jordan of Carlow, Ireland.

Mary Jordan was born 7 Aug 1849 in Wexford, Ireland and came to Cananda about 1850.

Margaret Jane Robinson and David Nevins Dauphin, Manitoba - Seeking Descendants

This couple married in Dauphin in 1903. Margaret's parents were James Sinclair and Grace Robinson from Plumas and I believe David's parents were John Webb Nivins and Elizabeth Fowler. The Robinsons and David Nevin moved from Huron County Ontario around 1893.

Sister to Margaret is Rachel Park Robinson who married William Anthony Hopping. Other sisters were Elizabeth and Maud. Brothers were Hugh, John Edward, James S., Benjamin Wilson, Alexander Donald and Gordon Stanley. All were located around Plumas, Gladstone, Gilbert Plains and Dauphin in the early 1900s.

Greetings. My grandfather, Frank Glover, is shown in the 1906 census as an 18 year old inmate in some sort of institution in Portage La Prairie.

From the other entries it appears to have been men only from about 14 years of age to late 30's. The head of the institution was Isaac Momson, and there were two other male officers.

Does anyone know what the name of this place might be, and where I could locate any associated court records?

A mystery PATRICK lady! Where was she buried?

This PATRICK lady lived in Boissevain in 1929. This info was obtained from her brother's obituary which said his sister lived in Voisevain, Manitoba but I believe it meant Boissevain, (unless there is/was a Voisevain!). Her surname was PATRICK and I believe one of her given names was Jane. Whether she was married or not is not certain. She was born in New Dublin, Ontario in 1859 so would have been 70 in 1929. There were some deaths on vital stats for Jane, but am not sure. Am assuming she probably died in Boissevain. Some researchers have photographed cemeteries - and some stones have maiden name of wives. Am hoping someone out there may have burial records and can look up this Patrick. I would be forever grateful Thank you.

I have a letter from 1898 and it's envelope from Robert Beatty to his brother, Hamilton Beatty in Michigan. The envelope has Canadian stamps, and the postmark appears to be GLADS, then MAN. At the top of the letter it says Gladstone.

I would love to hear from anyone that can help to shed some light on this ancestor of mine. Not sure how or when he arrived in Canada.

Eliza Pelham gave birth to Winnifred Beryl Hoadley who died 07/29/1914 at the age of 8 months in Portage La Prairie.
Eliza, age 49, died and is buried in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, 11/27/30.
John Richard Hoadley is also buried in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, 4/29/42.

Samuel Sturton, a farmer and a Baptist from Ely, Lincolnshire, married Hannah King at the Church of St Ethelburga, Bishopsgate, London on 26th June 1841.

They had children Ainsworth, Jane King, Samuel, Henry Ashworth, Emily, Alice and Herbert (all in Ely) and emigrated to Portage, Marquette, Manitoba probably between 1854 and 1856.

Ainsworth Sturton (b. 1842), son of Samuel and Hannah, became an accountant and ended up in Chicoutimi, Quebec (1881), with wife Mary and children Henry, Helen, Anna, Grant.
Ainsworth Sturton's line in Quebec obviously continued for many years. Lieutenant Ainsworth H. (Smokey) Sturton, late of 94th Anti Tank Battery, 3rd Anti Tank Regiment during WW2, died in Quebec in 1999.

Henry Ashworth Sturton (b. 1847) was elected Grand Treasurer of the Patrons of Industry at Portage le Prairie on November 11th 1891.

I am living in Sydney, Australia and have recently found out my family background. My grandfather's name was Robert Ducrest. He emigrated from Grueyers in Switzerland to Notre dame de Lourdes, Manitoba circa 1895 with his parents Clement and Helene (nee Passaplan) and siblings Joseph, Charles, Eugenie, Oscar, Placide (Percy) Genieve, Ida, Agatha and Marie. I believe the family eventually spread out across Canada and the U.S.. My Grandfather Robert came to Australia in the early 1900's married and had three sons, thus establishing a small branch of the Ducrests in Australia. I believe that some of Robert's sisters married local families by the names of Bosc and Tyrard.
I wondered if there are any decendants of these Ducrests that may wish to share family information.

Her husband Joseph, died several years ago, and Mrs. Dorval is survived by two daughers, Mrs. F. McCorquodale, of Winnipeg, Mrs. W. Melancon of New Brunswick; two sons, Arthur, of Fort William; Peter, of Winnipeg; two brothers, Joseph Rheault, of North Dakota; Z. Rheault, of Maine, also 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Prayers will be said Sunday at 4 p.m. in Desjardin's funeral chapel. For many years he had been an engineer on the Canadian Pacific railways, retiring four years ago on account of poor health He wan an old resident of Portage la Prairie, having resided there for a number of years, befor moving to Winnipeg, eight years ago. He is survived by his widow, his only son dying 14 years ago. The body is at Thomson funeral home and will be forwarded to Portage la Prairie today where service will be held at three o'clock. Burial will be made in the family plot, Portage la Prairie."

I am working on the geneology of the Gowan family of North Dakota and Minnesota. The family settled in Ontario, then some made their way into the U.S. During my researches I came on the 1906 Canadian Census records for Portage la Prairie Dist In the Westman/Western Region of Manitoba Two of the families listed there, J. Thomas Gowan and Charles Gowan are made up of individuals all having names that have been used repeatedly for several generations in the family I'm tracing. Am unable to find this death registration on the searchable Manitoba Archives site and can not find a place called Maple. Looking for any informtion on the Hoay/Hoy/Hoye family that came from Ireland to Pilkington Twp., Wellington County about 1847 - 1850. The family consited of a James Hoay b. 1815 in Ireland; his wife - do not know what her name was and 4 girls, all born in Ireland. One of the girls named Jean and her parents died of fever about 2 years after they arrived in Canada. The 3 remaining girls stayed with other families. My great, great grandmother - Mary Maria Hoay b. 1841 in Ireland, lived with Peter Hay's family until she married Alonzo Howes in 1861. Mary Maria's sisters were:

Elizabeth married William Grantham in 1864 and then moved to Manitoba and are listed in the 1901 census for the district of MacDonald - Gladstone.
