Aahhhh, that explains it. Thanks for the tip about find-a-grave. At first, I couldn't figure it out, but finally did. Added the memorials for my grandparents and then requested a photo. It told me that no one lives close enough so my request would not be picked up. Oh well. I will just have to get creative. I do appreciate learning how to use find-a-grave, though, so thanks for that.

random acts closed down so they will be no help to you - you should try http://www.findagrave.com and request a photo from that cemetery - i do the ones here in edmonton for find a grave (of course after the snow melts!) but someone might be able to help you

I now have the marriage record of William and Lillian. I also now know that Lillian was born in 1903 (as per her gravestone inscription) and she died in 1950. William died in 1958 and they are both buried at Lakeside Cemetery in The Pas (not La Pas, by the way). Lillian was buried on June 28, 1950 (so likely died a few days earlier) and William was buried on May 30, 1958. I found William's Naturalization on the Collections Canada website, but in order to get the records I need proof of his death. A death record is $30 (up from $25 since the last time I checked), but apparantly they will take an obituary or a photo of the gravestone as proof. So, I've written to both the Legislative Library and The Pas public library to see if either will look in their newspaper archives. I am also writing letters to both of the funeral homes in The Pas.

Three years ago I contacted the "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" and they offered to go to the cemetery and take pictures of the gravestones. But it's been 3 years and I've still not received them. Is there anyone reading this that lives nearby, or will be travelling past at any time, who would be willing to go and take photos for me?

Jo-Ann (in BC)

Robert Hodgson died on 30 Mar 1981 and is believed to buried at Strathclair church. Any information would be very helpfull, thanks.

Hello Grethe,
According to the family history recorded in The Pas, Gateway to the North, this Martin Solstad was born in Fisher, Minnesota, USA on Oct 16, 1881. It does not give any information about his parents or siblings. But perhaps the brothers you are looking for emigrated to Minnesota?
Regards,
Tracey Kirouac

Thanks, Dennis for replying to the message board, and sharing your information. I, myself, am no relation, but posted here to attempt to find information for my sister-in-law, who is a granddaughter of Wm. James BONWICK. Others have been generous with their histories as well and it is all very much appreciated. A picture placed online by your son (or nephew) is a real treasure.
Would Karna be a relative? Her paintings are beautiful.
Thanks again for sharing.
Joan Rawn

We have done some research on the family and have a document from the Bardardo boys school where the 3 brothers were sent, which is very informative along with the pictures of the 3 brothers when they arrived there. It would be very interesting to correspond to family of my Father. My older sister lives in PEI, Canada. Dennis

I have some information on why the town "took" the boys from their mother. After my grandfather had died my grandmother was working as a char person and could not feed everyone. The document that I have says the name of the social worker and it was his suggestion to take the boys.

Hi there,

Alex Bonwick was my Grandfather, and Henrietta Jane Forsythe was my Grandmother. My Grandmother died in Flin Flon. I can't remember the year, but I thought it was a few years earlier. My Father will know. My Grandmother is the one on the left second row. My Grandfather is the man on the left in the back row. If you have any questions please contact me. alexbonwick@hotmail.com

I forgot to mention in my last post, that Georgina and her sister Antoinette Kruger may have left Split lake in the forties or possibly earlier due to some family problems? Is it possible to find out when they left exactly? Is there a cemetary in Split lake and if so,does anyone have pictures of any Kruger or Moose family headstones?

Alfred John's attestation papers for WW1 give his age as 22 (in 1915), married with 3 children. He was living at 85 Hardwick St., Barking, and his occupation was "Dust Collector".

I believe this is Alex' immigration on the SS Tunisian in Mar 1907. There are almost 11 pages of "Barnardo Children" on this sailing, which brought Alex to Halifax.
I am attaching pg. 17, where Alex' name appears (abt. line 23), and the face page of the shiplist which shows the ship name, sailing dates etc.
My father, John Alexander says the name of his aunt was Etta.
My grandfather and his brother, William travelled on a ship called the Kensington from England to port in Maine, then to Canada. My grandfather was 10 and his brother 8.
I have correspondence from the Barnardo home. I also have photos of the three brothers at a young age as they lived in Barking. There are letters from their mother to my grandfather in Ontario.
I understand that Alex came to Canada some time later.
We have little information about Alfred and have lost contact since the passing of Annie. She and my grandmother wrote to each other over the years.

Thank you. I would be interested in knowing if "Henrietta Jane Forsythe" (also known as 'Etta' and 'Hettie') might be Alex' wife. She died in 1982 in Winnipeg. If she is, then I have been on the right track. All the little clues add up, however difficult is is to find them.
