I've also posted this on the Irvine surname board.
I'm searching for any information about the Irvine's of Manitoba. The farthest name that I have is of James H. Irvine who was born July 1898 and died in 1969. His father was John Irvine b. 1862 d. 1933 and his mother was Elizabeth b. 1867 d. 1959. I know that my family resided in the Silverwood area just outside of Roblin, Manitoba. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

James French Family in Grandview, Manitoba

Hello,

The branch of family I'm tracing is that of my ggg-grandfather Albert French's half-brother James Henry French who migrated west to Grandview Manitoba, from his area of birth, Dufferin Co. Ontario Canada.

Although the exact date of his move is unknown, it would lie somewhere between 1897 and 1901. James was born 1853 in Dufferin Co. Ontario and their he married Elizabeth Jane Allingham in 1882. Together they had six children that I know of; George E. (1884-?), Ethel Jane (1887-?)+John Thomas Warran, Tressa Ellinor (1889-?)+John David Clemens, Edna Arvilla (1894-?)+George Hamilton, James Clarence (1896-?), Harold Mervin (1897-?)+Annie Christina Hamilton.

James Henry French died in 1935 in Grandview Manitoba.

Any information would help,
Thanks in advance,
Robbie McCauley

I'm looking for information about Per Anton Lundquist and his family. The family immigrated to Canada in 1906 and settled in Manitoba.
I have found the family in the Census 1911, they were living in Dauphin:
Lundquist Per, born Feb 1865
Lundquist Martha, born Jan 1872
Children:
Lundquist George, born May 1898
Lundquist Gunner, born Feb 1899
Lundquist Gustave, born Apr 1902
Lundquist Anne, born Mar 1905
Lundquist Lena, born Jan 1908
Lundquist Gerthe, born Dec 1910

I have been searching the databases at http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca
for records on this family but all I found is a marriage record for a Gustav Lundquist who married Lydia Ratke on Oct 15, 1922 in McDonald but I'm not sure if this Gustav is Per's son.

I'm very grateful for any information that might reveal what happened to this family.

Barbro Funseth
Uppsala, Sweden
Someone must be related! I am looking into all the surrounding areas of Oakburn, Ohla, Shoal Lake, Rossburn, Birtle, Strathclair Manitoba.
My grandmother is a Dushnicky (lots of ways to spell it)with siblings born in the Oakburn/ Ohla area between 1916 to 1935. I have lots of info this generation (but never enough). My great grandmother Anastasia Maskiw immigrated to Canada from Stanislaw Austria Galacia in 1899 with her parents and some siblings, Harry Dushnicky came from Kopychase Austria Galacia and married "Nettie" in 1914. Other surnames I have found are Kondrat (Konvrat), Hucal, Gerega, Kaczan, Kuze, and Budnik. Try as I might I can't find anything on any censuses to help with more names, etc.
Hope to hear from anyone who can help or are related.
Patricia

Green Family in Bowsman, Manitoba

Hello,

We are searching for information regarding my gggg-uncle David D. Green (1853- ?) and his wife Martha Orilla Conn (1855-?) they were born and married in Ontario, and resided in the Huron County region; this is where their two oldest children are born; Ernest Herbert Green (m. Sarah Jane Goodman) (1877-?) and Orilla May Green (m. William Charles Harvey) (1879-1976). After leaving Ontario they moved to the state of North Dakota where they had the rest of their children; Renetta Maud Green (1881-?) (m. William George McIndoe), David Monte Green (1884- ?) (m. Margaret Elizabeth McGaw), Maxwell Clinton Green (1886-?) (m. Alice May McFarlane), and Lela Estelle Green (1893- ?) (m. Walter Percy Bradley). After leaving North Dakota the family traveled north to Manitoba, where all the children got married and presumably lived out the remaining duration of their lives. The specific area they lived in was a town call Bowsman Village, it is in the Northern portion of Manitoba near Swan River in the Dauphin District.

We are especially interested in finding death dates, pictures, burial information, and further descendants, but any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you in advance,

Robbie McCauley and Ray Green
Louis Proctor – Russell, Manitoba

I would love hear from my distant cousins or any fellow genealogists who can help me confirm information or fill in any blanks I have regarding my great grandfather’s brother Louis Proctor and his life and family in Manitoba.

I presently know very little about him. He was the son of William Proctor and Mary Webb. He was born in Ontario and was recorded as being 3 years old in 1871 census. He was raised with his family in Euphrasia Township, Grey County, Ontario, near the village of Kimberley. In 1939 he was residing at Russell, Manitoba.

That’s it!

I can share the information I have about this family’s roots in Ontario and England. With anybody who is interested.

Regards,
Dale Proctor
North Bay ON

Hello,

I am still in the process of trying to locate additional information about my great grandfather ACHILLE MARIA JOSEPHUS MINNAERT'S involvement with the Dauphin Music School.

Recently, someone directed me to a site for the Le Manitoba Newspaper, March 15, 1916. The article was written in French...a translation disclosed that on March 3, there was a benefit concert in Dauphin for the Foundation for Help to War Victims in Belgium, subdivision St. Boniface.

Greatgrandfather and family apparently came to Canada from Belgium in either 1910 or 1911.

The newspaper article describes (translated) the concert in "the big auditorium in the town hall" and mentions "the concert had been organized by the pupils of the Dauphin Music School, under the competent direction of Prof. A. Minnaert and Ms. C. Minnaert. "

600 people were present, including mayor Johnson and a Mrs. O.G. Hearslips, who sang, as well as Mr. de Nobele and Aug. Vanraes. Also Prof. W. M. Murray, who conducted the orchestra.

If anyone knows further details about the Dauphin School of Music, similar War Benefit Concerts or additional reference to Achille MINNAERT, I would be very happy to hear from you.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Corinne (Minnaert) Postnikoff

1901 Wagon Looking For A Home

My father's family travelled by wagon from Clinton Ontario to Lavenham and East Bay Manitoba circa 1901. Last week my father showed me this wagon which has been in the bush on his property since then. Can anyone advise if there is interest in retrieving it with a view to restoration?

As far as I can see, there are metal wheels with wooden spokes. If there is interest, it would need to be retrieved from East Bay, preferably before another winter goes by.

I would be pleased to hear any suggestions.
PS - I live in Vancouver but could arrange for someone local to show the wagon.

Hello,

Would anyone have any additional info concerning Edith Jane Setter (parents were William Setter and Jane Cusitar) and Victor W. Jenkins other than what is found here: http://www.cursiter.com/txt-exe-files/Curmajor.txt

I tried contacting the owner of the site, Walt Custer (http://www.cursiter.com/pages/comments.htm) but I did not receive a reply. She was supposedly born 31 Aug. 1905 in Dauphin, MB & was adopted by (or maybe just took the Murray name) by William Murray & Eliza Jane Wells who were to have run the 1st orphanage in Dauphin. Apparently William Murray was the mayor of Dauphin at some time. Nellie's son recalls that her birthname was a "Scandinavian name" but doesn't recall the name.
Hello,

I thought rather than using the name of my great-grandparents as the subject line, perhaps a general inquiry about the Music Circles of the 1910-1920 era may generate more resources, that will hopefully lead to some specific information about ACHILLE MINNAERT and his daughter
CECILIA (MINNAERT) TENCH.

I am hoping there will be someone who could check into
publications from that time or advise me how to access them.

In particular: Dauphin School of Music
A.M.J. MINNAERT School of Music
Concerts

From some references I have seen, it sounds like there was quite a "high class" repertoire of performers - singers, pianists and other instrument players.

Looking forward to replies.

Thank you.

Corinne

I am tracing McCleary families originally from the Corcreany area of Donaghcloney, Co. Down, Ireland.

Andrew McCleary (pre 1800) had son Andrew McCleary b. abt 1830 who married Mary MAXWELL and moved to Ontario. They had several children including Andrew who married Mary Caroline HENRY.. This Andrew then moved to Manitoba.

This family is known to be related somehow to a Lurgan, Ireland, Andrew McCleary, Manitoba Martins, possibly a Canadian Dubois, and Irish McConnells.
Hoping to find some information about the ACHILLE MINNAERT family that came from Belgium in about 1910.
Wife was named Emma. Children born in the 1890's: Cecilia, Hector, Gustave, Sylvain (Arthur).
Achille and his daughter Cecilia were concert pianists. May have been involved with Dauphin School of Music? Would really love to know more about this. Once, was sent a newspaper clipping about a concert they performed at. I believe it was in October, 1920, but cannot find the copy! Help, please!.
My grandfather Gustave married Maggie Rebalkin in Brandon in March 1916. I believe she lived in Army Barracks with other wives. Also, would love to know more of that!
Arthur (Sylvain) died in 1918, aged 20. in Dauphin.
Cecilia married Norman Tench in April 1916. He died in 1921.
Achille and his wife Emma returned to Belgium perhaps in
the early 1930's.
Please help me obtain additional information.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone with details on these MINNAERTS.
Corinne in Castlegar, B.

Found the discussion of a book on the history of Ochre River area.
Tried the link, but e-mail bounced back as NOT VALID.
Is there anyone reading this who has access to the book at a library and could look up the couple mentioned?
Napoleon Landry (son of Adolphe) and Eliz. Therrien were married in St. Boniface (or Lorne) Manitoba in 1888. They are found in the 1901 Canadian Census as living at Ochre River. We know nothing else about my great-grandmother's younger brother. Judging from the dates of the history (1885---) they would have been pioneers in that region. Perhaps he is mentioned in the history... What made him go there when all of his siblings remained in Quebec? Did he work with the railroad? Did he have a land grant?

Any information would be treasured. Thank you.

Swanson, Holmquist in Ochre River, Manitoba

Am looking for any information on Peter and Annie Louise Swanson who immigrated to Ochre River, Manitoba sometime
between 1915 and 1920. They were joined by Annie's father
Peter Holmquist and also by a brother and his wife and family
namely Emil and Mary Holmquist. Peter Holmquist died at Ochre
River about l920. Mary Holmquist also died there and is buried
there in the Ochre River Municipal Cemetary. We think Peter
and Annie Swanson left Ochre River sometime after l920 to Bows-
man, Manitoba. Annie died in 1951 and Peter died in 1972. Peter Holmquist is our ggrandfather and Annie Louise and Emil
Holmquist is a sister and brother of our grandfather. They have been "missing" for about 80 years! Would appreciate any information but esp. any obits, marriages etc. Please send any
material through this site or e-mail direct to rudje5@hotmail.com.
Thank you so much in advance.
Paul and Jan Holmquist Rud

Stephen Sltsen - Death.

From the Manitoba Morning Free Press, Monday, December 31, 1900, page 3, under A Gallcians Sad Death.

"Stephen Sltsen, a Gallcian settler at Fishing River, met with a shooting accident on Sunday last which resulted in his death on Tuesday. The unfortunate man, it appears, was about to take down a revolver, which was suspended from the ceiling by the trigger guard, when it was discharged, lodging the bullet in his left arm and badly shattering the bones below the elbow. After the accident the injured man was brought to Sifton and from that point to Dauphin by handcar and lodged in the hospital here. An examination by a physican revealed the fact that gangrene had set in and made such headway that amputation of the limb would fail to save Sltsen's life, and in consequencence, was not performed. The unfortunate man lingered until Tuesday, when he passed away. Deceaded leaves a widow and five children to the tender mercies of the cold world. - Dauphin Press."

For information only.
From the Manitoba Morning Free Press, Monday, December 31, 1900, on the Front Page, under JAMES DAVIES' MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

"FOUND IN HIS SWAN RIVER SHANTY WITH A FATAL BULLET WOUND.
_____________________________

Dauphin, Dec. 29, - James Davies, a former resident of Dauphin was discovered dead in his shanty at Bowsman, in the Swan River district, on Monday from the effects of a bullet. Although there is no direct evidence of how the deed was done, everything points to suicide as deceased was known to have been in a despondent state of mind for some time past. James Davies came to Dauphin in the spring of 1897 and taught Dauphin school for a time. He was also a lay reader in the Church of England, and on several occasions took the service in St. Paul's. In the spring of 1898 he joind the rush of homesteaders to Swan River and the town of Bowsman is locaded on his farm. Deceased was a a native of Wales and about 55 years of age."

For information only. The poster is not related to nor is researching the above.
