I am currently on vacation but will be home Friday this week and can access more info about my mom 's family at that time.

You are correct that there was another sister, Betty, who died quite young. I have limited information on her but will share anything that I can find on her.

Laurie

Hi Laurie, I didnt have the information so I am really grateful for that. My grandmother was one of Gladys sisters, Edith. I did have a marriage for your mother but no other info about her or Milton. I also know there was another girl Betty who I believe died quite young. Any info that you could share would be great. My mother June is still alive, out of Ediths 8 children there is only 2 left alive

Regards Dawn

Hi again Turchanski!

George Nelson Leflar (1857-1936) was the older brother of my great grandfather Frederick Stafford Leflar (1860-1935) who died in Roblin, Manitoba. George was the first Leflar in Manitoba (arriving about 1890) where he obtained a free land grant. George N. Leflar and his wife Lucy J. Wray had nine known children - Lucy Ellen was their fifth child and the first born in Manitoba at Shoal Lake on June 9, 1891. I see Lucy Ellen wed Sydney Wishart on August 6, 1913 at Shellmouth, Manitoba. I have nothing more about them due to privacy laws.

I have researched back to George Nelson Leflar's great grandparents. Having accessed Leflar land and court records at the Archives of Ontario, I've found some interesting information not found in census data and vital statistics.

Although interested in doing so, I've not made contact with any Leflar descendants in Manitoba including descendants of my own Fred Leflar and his second wife Ethel Battisby. I am a descendant of Fred's first wife Rachel M. McArthur and our branch remained in Ontario.

If you wish to collaborate, please contact me directly at dcooper7@cogeco.ca.

Yours in genealogy,
Wayne Cooper

I am currently working up a report on stonemasonry by this family, and incidentally their family tree in 1895-1905. I would be happy to share information and have some questions regarding the exact relationships and stonemasonry connection.

This is a response to a post that is 8 years old. I hope it still reaches interested parties. My name is Linda Wilton, also of Manitoba. I am very interested in sharing information with anyone from this family. Our line comes from Prima Wilton, as does this one. But we originate from one of his sons, John from another. I have just recently learned of this line of Manitoba Wiltons. Please reply to this post or to lkwilton@mymts.net with any information at all that you may have. I have a large tree on TribalPages that I would love to share. Thank you so much

Hi, I am Mari Bonner the great grand daugter of Chalotte Palmer nee Rowe and grand daughter of Harriet Chalotte Matilda Hughes nee Palmer. Robert Rowe's second wife was Isabella and they had a number of children but prior to moving to Manitoba he was married to someone with the last name of Hadden I believe and they had a number of children. My dad, Melville Henry Hughes was the only child of Matilda (also referred to as Harriet, Charlotte). She married Gilbert Hugh Hughes. He died in 1972 in Winnipeg and she died in 1991 at age 92. Melville died in 2003 at the age of 82. Laura, Matilda's sister died at a young age...I never knew her. My grandma Harriet C.M. is buried at Elmwood Cemetary in Winnipeg.

MY NAME IS ROB LYONS. I SEE QUITE SOME TIME AGO YOU WERE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON BANNERMAN, MB. AND THE COOKS. I GREW UP NOT FAR FROM BANNERMAN. THE NAME COOK IS QUITE COMMON AS MRS COOK HAD THE HOTEL IN TOWN. IN FACT THE ONLY REAL REMAINS OF ANY BUILDINGS OF BANNERMAN IS THE BASEMENT HOLE OF THE OLD HOTEL. A NEIGHBOUR I THINK HAS A PICTURE OR TWO OF THE OLD HOTEL AND MAYBE SOME OF THE COOKS ARE IN THE PICTURE. ANYWAY IF YOU WANT ANY BETTER INFORMATION I MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU OUT. THANKS FOR NOW.
The two historical books--with great articles and photos--do indicate that Basswood people care about their past. While the bank/hardware building is now gone, and it was a wonderful building, I really doubt that there would have been resouces to preserve and maintain it properly. It's the same story in many hamlets in Manitoba, not many people left.

I really am proud to be from Basswood. It was/is a community of people that care about their neighbours. For example each home that we visited (six Kihn kids, a big bunch) on halloween welcomed us and gave us treats even though as farm kids we didn't actually live in town. Other great memories: 1970 Centennial Celebration--I remember Mr. Girling buying pepsi soda pops for the Kihn kids, the last year of the local school, a bigfoot scare in 1975--apparently footprints of a "sasquatch" were found near town, fowl suppers in the hall, the talent show and Mrs. Cardy playing Pippi Longstocking, 4H, etc.. It was a wonderful community to grown up in. No xbox or internet, just one TV channel, but we always had things to do outside.

Yes, one child--Roydon B. Smith. Martha was born in 1839 to Edward Smith and Ann Early. She had one sister, Cynthia Elizabeth Smith who married an Isaac Bell. Martha was born in London. Ontario. I am trying to trace back to Ann Early as she must have been a relative of Elizabeth Early McLaughlin who was my greatx2 grandmother.
