Classification: Query
JOHN S. MAGEE b. Elgin Parish, Albert Co., NB 5JUN1862 (5JUN1861 in 1901, ca. 1862, JUN1866? in 1911), d. 19JUN1941, buried Daytona Memorial Park, Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, m. Methodist Church, Yarmouth, Yarmouth Co., NS 16MAR1892 ANNIE LAURA JENKINS (b. Milton Highlands, Yarmouth Co., NS 1MAR1872 (1MAR1873 in 1901), d. 23JUN1961, buried Daytona Memorial Park, Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, d/o Hugh and Rebecca (Prine? or Prince?) Jenkins.
In 1910 John was city clerk for the City of Moncton.
In 1871, John Magee (9) lived in Elgin Parish, Albert Co., NB. His parents were John (45) and Margaret (40) Magee, both born Ireland. Siblings were George (16), Mary A. (13), Robert (11), Jane (7) and May (3). In Elgin Parish in 1861 John (36) and Margaret (3) MaGee had George (7), Mary (3), Daniel (5) and Robert (1). With them was John's brother-in-law, Robert Bayley (22), from which I assume Margaret's maiden name was a version of Bailey (Bayley seems preferred). Next door was the family of Thomas 'McGee?' (30) whom I would guess to be John's brother.
In Elgin Parish in 1851 was the family:

Magee George M Head 56 Irish Farmer October 1827
Magee Elizabeth F Wife 49 Irish October 1827
Magee John M Son 25
Magee Mary Ann F Daughter 22
Magee Thomas M Son 20
Magee William M Son 16
Magee James M Son 13
Magee George M Son 10
Magee Charles M Son 8
Magee Richard M Son 6
Magee Catherine F Daughter 4 Mon

The ages are a bit questionable. John's age is transcribed as '15' but his position in the order-of-birth and a re-examination of the image of the original shows that it was actually 25. Thomas, for example, would be the Thomas Magee b. 21MAR1827, d. 11NOV1908 buried in the Port Elgin, Fernwood Cemetery as at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~damery/WE/...
C. Rufus Magee may have been Charles in 1851. Bess Magee b. Co. Fermanagh, Ireland ca. 1801, d. Elgin Parish 21MAY1876 age 75. She was the widow of George Magee and according to the announcement of her death she and George arrived in 1826. This family is given as:

On the next page, in 1851, were:

Bailey Dennis M Head 54 Irish Farmer June 1847
Bailey Elizabeth F Wife 45 Irish June 1847
Bailey John M Son 22
Bailey Margaret F Daughter 20
Bailey Catherine F Daughter 18
Bailey Alexander M Son 16
Bailey Robert M Son 14
Bailey William M Son 5

In Elgin Parish, in 1881, John (55) and 'Margret' (52) Magee had George A. (26), Robert (21), John (18), Mary A. (22), 'Jain' (16) and May (13). Also with them was Ella 'Baly' (11).
I believe that John (20FEB1826) and Margaret (AUG1830) Magee in Moncton City in 1901 are the same from Elgin Parish. With them was a granddaughter, Eva A. Magee (18FEB1885). Eva may be a bit of a mystery as she seems to be Eva L. Magee of Moncton who died in Saint John of 'consumption' 28OCT1908 age 23 years and was given as a daughter of John Magee (b. Ireland), presumably her grandfather. Her uncle was O. A. Geldart. Oliver Alexander Geldart m. Mary Ann Magee. He was the son of Alexander and Mary (Killem) Geldart and was from Elgin Parish. Mary A. Geldart (5JUN1858-1JAN1929) was the d/o John and Margaret (Bailey) Magee. It seems as if Eva L. was Eva A. in 1901 and that John was her grandfather, not father. Certainly in 1891, John (65), Margaret (62) and their son, John S. (29) were living in Moncton.
I cannot find John S. and Annie L. in 1901 although they were at 77 Fleet St., Moncton by 1911. John was city clerk. The children were b. in NB. The reason I cannot find them is because the surname is given as 'McGee' in 1901. They were in Moncton with their son, Stanley, john was a merchant, and they were members of the Salvation Army at the time. Apparently Mayor Magee was appointed city clerk in MAY1904 although he is given as mayor 1904-5 having been an alderman for eight years. He is said to have attended Saint John Business College, been a Liberal, originally Methodist and a member of the Knights of Pythias.
Annie's father, Hugh Jenkins (b. Saint John, NB ca. 1836 (15APR1835 in 1901), d. Yarmouth, NS 13AUG1912 age 76 years) was a shipbuilder. Hugh's wife, Rebecca (14SEP1841 in 1901) was apparently b. in the USA and arrived in 1863. A son was Thomas Jenkins (16SEP1881). Hugh was more likely b. Charlotte Co., NB as Hugh Jenkins (16) and Jane Jenkins (10) were children of a widow, Ann 'Dewyer' (43) in St. David Parish in 1851. A half-sister was Elizabeth 'Dewire' (4). A "dau of Widow Jenkins" was buried (or died) 8NOV1844. Possibly this was Elizabeth Jenkins, age 6 in 1843, attending school in Oak Bay School, St. David Parish in that year. John S. Magee gave Hugh's name as Hugh Sloan Jenkins but the middle name is unlikely as Hugh's daughter, Augusta Sarah Jenkins, married Hugh Sloan. In the birth record of another child, Rebecca's maiden name looks like 'Prine' or 'Prince' but she is given as Rebecca Prime b. Eastport, ME ca. 1838, d. Boston, MA 21AUG1933. Hugh is given as b. 15AUG1835 (15APR in 1901) and d, 15AUG1912 (13AUG in death record).
Annie appears to have been in Daytona Beach, Florida by 1945. They appear to have gone there in 1924.
Children:
1. STANLEY CECIL (C. STANLEY) MAGEE b. 13DEC1898 (4DEC1898 in 1901), d. 8MAR1936, buried Daytona Memorial Park, Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, m. Saint John, NB RHODA LILLIE SMITH.
2. LORNE ('LORN') EDWARD MAGEE b. Moncton, 15JUL1902, d. Orange, Florida 11JUL1978, m. Moncton 8AUG1925 LUCY BEATRICE SMITH.
In Orlando, Florida in 1940.
3. KENNETH DREXEL MAGEE b. Moncton, Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 1DEC1910, d. Ormond Beach, Florida 10SEP1985, buried Daytona Memorial Park, Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, m. Volusia Co., Florida 9APR1939 JEAN CRAIG McNALLY.
