Thank you so much for that Marilyn, it's very helpful. Fesindon shows up as a son of William and Lydia on the 1871 census with an age consistent with having been born in 1860 so he must be the "1 born previous year".
Some of the other ages look a little funny compared with other data I have so perhaps there was an issue with careless initial recording or messy handwriting that was difficult for the original transcriber.
