This may help in clarifying your questions. I do know that my grandfather was born in what was termed as "the family homestead". From what I understand this was their family home, which according to a letter written by my great-grandfather, they owned. My grandfathers brother Lewis was a photographer in St. John for years. My mother has a portrait he took of Model Farm NewBrunswick, his birth place. Which tells me this was a place not a facility. My mother has mentioned that my grandmother's brother Shelton Appleby did work and run one of the government run "model farms" in that region. My grandfather's home was different from this.
