Beverly: Are you possibly descended from the Mumfords of Rhode Island who moved to New Brunswick, Canada before the American Revolution? (Some moved there during the American Revolution, also.) Most of the Rhode Island Mumfords are descended from Thomas Mumford, who settled there in the 1600's. Our family is descended from him. Many times in our early history, people would write their names differently different times--sometimes, even in the same document, such as a will. Many were not quite literate! Thomas Mumford's family has a few written genealogies. Florence

I am trying to trace my ancestor David MASON born in the Orkneys 1793 arrived NB 1809 from ? Scotland. Married to Ann ANTWERTH in 1810 and joined the New Brunswick Fencibles in the same year. This regiment became the 104th Regiment of Foot and took part in the Winter March from Frederickton to Quebec City in 1812? I don't know if he was part of a family group that arrived together or was a singleton. If part of a family group did some members stay in NB? Are their any ANTWERTHS still around? Any help or information would be very much appreciated
Thomas Busteed Sr. or Jr.?

This will be the longest post I've ever done. Just when I thought I had one side of the family figured out.
I always thought that Thomas Busteed Sr. had died nov 11 1817 and was buried in the Atholville cemetery,and that his wife Mary Barter died oct 30 1813 was buried there as well.I just recieved some photos of these two headstones and the one of Thomas also says " and of Elizabeth Ann Ferguson wife of Thomas Busteed died aug 22 1855" Well that would mean that this is the headstone of Thomas Busteed Jr. and his wife. So does anyone know when Thomas Busteed Sr. died and where he is buried, because now I'm completely confused!! I would love to hear any imput on this
Thank you
Carol from Kamloops B.C.

I am seeking for a possibility in finding a record for my ancestor. William Henry Faulkner born abt 1879 in New Brunswick supposedly of Irish Ancestry and Roman Catholic.

One statement is that he may have spent part of his life on a reservation and/or may have a mother who was native.

The only record we found was in 1911 living with his wife and 2 children in New Westminster, BC (Alice Wharton). We do not even know where he married.

Thank you
Keith

I cannot find any connection to Micum McIntire from southern Maine who descends from the 3 McIntire brothers ousted from Scotland in 1600's settling in MA. I believe my McIntires were Irish and entered Maine from Canada. I was told to check into New Brunwick as a possibility.

Fairn, Chapman, Hennigar in Saint John

My gg-grandparents, Francis Fairn, born in Annapolis Co., NS, about 1822, and Frances Sayre "Fanny" Chapman, (date and place of birth unknown. but likely not in Annapolis Co.) had children William Henry Fairn (my g-grandfather), born July 15, 1847, in Saint John, and James Hennigar Fairn, born November 1, 1849, also in Saint John.

"Fanny" Fairn died January 27, 1854, in Saint John. Francis Fairn, a ship's carpenter, drowned not long after his wife's death - perhaps in Saint John Harbour or perhaps at sea, the stories differ. The two children were taken to Annapolis County, Nova Scotia where William Henry was raised by his father's cousin, Benjamin Fairn of Moschelle, and James was raised in Lawrencetown by Eliza (Fairn) Bent, his father's sister.

In 1874, by then working with the Digby-Yarmouth, NS railroad, James Fairn married Annie Ryan of Marshalltown, Digby Co. In 1876, James died in a railroad accident near Weymouth, NS. James and Annie had two children, a girl named Alma born in 1875 and a boy of unknown name born in early 1877, a few months after James died.

James, Annie and family had been living in Hebron, Yarmouth Co. According to my grandfather, not too long after James died Annie moved to Saint John with the children and later gave them up to be raised by others. My grandfather said the boy was raised by "Pastor Hennigar", a clergyman, but he did not know what became of the girl. I have no name for either child.

I am looking for the following information:

1. the date and place of birth and parents of Frances Sayre "Fanny" Chapman;
2. particulars of the marriage of Francis Fairn and Frances Chapman;
3. particulars of the death of Francis Fairn;
4. anything known about "Pastor Hennigar";
5. anything regarding the children of James Fairn and Annie Ryan and descendants of those children.

If someone has the opportunity to check for me, I would be very, very appreciative-- I've hit a brick wall with these two!

Albert Wilson was born in England apprx.1870-1880. He worked on ships traveling from England to New Brunswick in the late 1890's through to the 1920's (possibly as a cook) when he disappeared. He married SHERWOOD, FRANCES ANN, around 1901/02 in Kings County, NB, Canada. They had 8 children. Any information about him would be very much appreciated. My grandfather often spoke of the strange circumstances surrounding his father's disappearance with much sadness. I think enough time has passed to try to find out the truth.

Asahel Brown born in Canada in 1827 or 1828

I am frustrated in my search for information on my great-great grandfather Asahel Brown who, according to the US Censuses, was born in Canada in 1827 or 1828.

He lists his parents as having been born in Connecticut, so his parents may have been US immigrants to Canada, either forever or just for a while. Asahel Brown entered the United States from Canada in 1845.

It's possible that he went to Lowell, Massachusetts in the 1840s before relocating to Wisconsin. In Lowell, there is a record of Asahel Brown marrying Lucinda Alger. The record gives Asahel's parents as Samuel and Polly. It gives Lucinda's parents as Nathaniel and Mary.

Asahel later married, in Wisconsin, a woman from Maine named Lucetta Elizabeth Harman. Upon her death, he married in Wisconsin Johanna Greyerson, who was born in Norway.

Given the information that I have, I am inclined to think that his parents (or at least his father) may have sought his fortune in New Brunswick (possibly Quebec) during the early part of the 19th Century. I'm at a dead-end and any insight that anyone has regarding Asahel would be greatly appreciated!

James Charles Chatterton Bremner m. Edith Lillian Fielders

Edith Lillian Bremner nee Fielders

I am researching the Bremner family tree.

James Charles Chatterton Bremner (known as Charlie) married Edith Lillian Fielders and they lived at the family homestead 'Bremner House' Clover Bar till Charlie died in 1928. I believe Edith returned to New Brunswick and died in 1963. (She had a brother called William (Bill) and sister Elsie as far as I know).

Does anyone know of this family? thanks
Sue Bremner
Albright was born about 1856 in New Brunswick, Canada and I am looking for information about my family in this area. He is as far back as I can find, and I would like to find out as much as I can about his parents, siblings, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, he married Maria A. Milner (of Ontario according to her census records) sometime around 1875, plus or minus 5 years. They moved to Minnesota in either 1878 or 1881 (there are conflicting records about this date) Thanks for all the help I can get!

Hi all,

A few years back(04/2004)I made a post the the New Brunswick List about a Loyalist Book! I guess in Ancestry.com's infinite wisdom they discontinued the message board(pre Ancestry.com days you use to make post to a board and it would go to the list automatically). Anyway with that being said, let's stay focused. The book was, "The Loyalist Of New Brunswick" by Ester Clark Wright(out of print now). had information on it! After I made the post I got some great information and thought I'd share it in the event someone may have a connection:

From: "Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Archives - Vol. 7" Partition Dockets 1,2 &3, Allegheny County, PA 1858-1873. Ken McFarland, Abstracter and Compiler. Pub. by Closson Press, Apollo, PA. pp. 17,18 of McFarland's Work p. 340 in Partition Docket #1, Allegheny Co., PA
Item #4
McSHAFREY, Margaret, decd. - Feb. 28, 1863 [note, this is the proceedings date, not Margaret's death date]
On petition of Mary Sinclair, daughter of Margaret McShafrey, decd., who died in Aug. 1834 leaving a husband (since decd.) & eight children, to wit: Margaret, died in 1843 or 1844, wife of John Lightner; Patrick, died in 1848
without issue; Mary, the petitioner, wife of James Sinclair of Lawrenceville; Nancy of Lawrenceville; Margery, died in 1839 without issue; John, died in 1855 unmarried; Catharine, widow of John Foley of Lawrenceville; and William of Pittsburgh (now in the army); and seized of a lot in Lawrenceville.

Apr. 30, 1863
The property was divided into two portions.

May 30, 1863
William McShafrey, Ann McShafrey and Catharine Foley jointly accepted one portion at valuation. The other portion not being taken, the court appointed Cicero Hasbrouck as commissioner to sell it.

Oct. 3, 1863
Cicero Hasbrouck reported that the lot was sold to J. Chas. Dicken, Esq., on July 18, 1863.

This established my ancestor's lineage another generation then I found this the other day:

History: Area: Some Old Taverns In Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA 1751-1832

1805--We have George Diller, "Indian King" northeast side of Main Street, lot No. 269, George Wise, George Stine on lot No. 260, John Kernan, Hanover Street, late William Rainey and Nathaniel Weakley, John Hunter, John Hare, John Rhine, Jere Miller, Henry Horner, High Street, late W. H. Bayette, Thomas Carothers, northwest corner on the square, George Crean, High Street, Thomas Foster, John Kinkead on lot No. 177, northeast corner Hanover and Louther streets, Thomas Mitchell, Hugh Mitchell, late John Pope, High Street,
DANIEL McSHAFFREY, late Robert Porter, High Street, Elizabeth Vanlear, and Jacob Creaver.

So what this establishes is the Daniel in NB and my Daniel are 2 different people. On a side note, Cumberland Co., Pa is to the East of Allegheny Co., Pa. Apparently Old Taverns In Carlisle, was a stop for him on the way to Pittsburgh, Pa.

Just wanted to share this info in hopes that someone may be able to connect and to bring the List up to date! Thanks every one for the help on the Daniel McShaffrey/McSheffrey in NB!!!

I have a New Brunswick Connection; James Albert Carter born ~1838 (1870 US census) or 1845 (1880 US census) I tend to believe the 1870 census more as it was more specific when answering questions. I checked the US census and believe he did not emmigrate until after the US civil war (1865).

I looked through a 1851 census index and then the entries and did not find my ancestor. To date I have not been able to find the 1861 census or its index.

In the 1851 census I did look through I could not find him.

1) How incomplete is the 1851 census? I know a couple counties are missing so what I am getting at is the rough percentage of completeness.
2) How incomplete is the 1861 census?

Asahel/Ashael Hyde b 1793 Brunswick PQ?

I have hit a wall with my ancestor Asahel/Ashael Hyde. I know he died June 21, 1874 in Derby VT, and was married to Hannah Drew Morrill in the late 1840s in Derby, because their son was age 2 in the 1850 census. I finally got a copy of his death record, and it says his place of birth is Brunswick PQ. His birth date should be sometime in December of 1793. On a map I see New Brunswick near Quebec, but I dont see a town of Burnswick in PQ, so I am not sure where to even start to look for his birth record. On most census records, his place of birth is listed as PQ. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you!

Thomas Cowell Humphries, aka Charles Humphries on one census, was born about 1849 in Canada (New Brunswick?), and died about Dec 1927, in Columbus, Ohio. He married Louise Augusta Albright and in 1878 had a daughter, Elizabeth Sophia Humphries, who married Frank Cloud. He may have lived in New Brunswick before coming to Columbus.

Is this sounding familiar to anyone?

Kathy

I recently obtained a copy of the marriage certifice of my g3-grandparents, George Robson (aka Robinson) and Isabella Graves, who were married on December 23, 1824. The marriage was presided by Rev Oliver Arnold, a noted Sussex Anglican minister of the day. The certificate notes that "consent of the parents" was given to the marriage. Is it reasonable to assume that the married couple were under legal age at the time, which I assume again was Age 21, or was that a common statement made in marriage certificates from that time?

Patrick Close/b. abt 1842/New Brunswick

I'm still searching for information about my gggrandfather, Patrick Close. The 1880 US census indicates he was born in 1842 in New Brunswick, Canada. Not sure when he came to the US (Pennsylvania) but his wife is American and their first child was born in 1872 in Pennsylvania. Does anyone have access to the Canadian census who might do a look-up? Thanks for any help!!

Kind regards,
Chris Magill Wieland
