My g. grandfather "Thomas Landry" married Marie Chamberland (widow of Joseph Elliott). Thomas' first wife "Elizabeth Chapman" had a sister "Lydia Fowler Chapman" that married a John E. Elliott b. 1849 in St. George, NB. I have been told this John was brother to Joseph Elliott. If this is right then William left 3 sons and not two. Could you verify this for me?

Roxanne

Hello,

I notice this conversation about the Thompson ancestors from Bass River, Nova Scotia took place several years ago, but I have a couple of comments about Archibald Thompson Jr, and I am seeking others who are interested in researching this particular group of Thompsons.

I am wondering if anyone knows of the sources for Archibald Thompson Jr.'s time in the Seven Years War.

The post from eljay17 on 12 Jan 2008 at 8:20PM GMT said:

"Archibald Thompson served in the French Indian War with Wolfe in Quebec 1755-1757"

However, I've researched General Wolfe and he would not have been in Quebec during those years. He was in Canterbury, England in 1756 and then Rochefort, France in 1757. It wasn't until 1758 that he came to help the British in their North America effort, he led the Seige of Louisbourg in 1758. If all of that is true, then 1758 is the soonest Archibald Thompson Jr. could have crossed paths with General Wolfe, and it would have been at Louisbourg (although I have not found evidence he served at Louisbourg under General Wolfe).

It is true that not all muster rolls from the Seven Years War have survived, so Archibald Thompson JR. could have easily served earlier than 1758 ... so we'd have to say "possibly at Quebec" and concede that it was probably not under General Wolfe ...

There is evidence that he served at Crown Point in 1758. A few older books refer to an Archibald Thompson JR. from Massachusetts serving under Captain Simeon Cary at Crown Point, this is almost certainly the same Archibald Thompson JR descended from Archibald Thompson of Bridgewater. Check out the book "History of Plymouth County, Massachusetts: With Biographical Sketches of Many of Its Pioneers and Prominent Men, Part 2" by Duane Hamilton Hurd (free on Google Books).

The post from eljay17 on 12 Jan 2008 at 8:20PM GMT also referred to "837-838. Claim of Archibald Thompson & James Park, late of Tryon Co. [N.C. August 29.]"

This is unlikely the same Archibald Thompson Jr from Massachusetts ... primarily because the years are way off (by the 1770s Archibald Thompson JR of Bridgewater was living in Nova Scotia on Five Islands), and furthermore it says that Archibald Thompson fought with the Indians which indicates a different person. The Archibald Thompson Jr. from Bridgewater, MA served for the British.

If anyone has sources for Archibald Thompson JR., I am starting a WikiTree for him at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Thompson-9350, I should have a bio with all of my sources and notes up there soon ... I was trying to sort out some of this before I posted it ... difficult to do! I'd enjoy collaborating and I can be contacted through my WikiTree profile.

Hello; I have just read your post about information on Elizabeth Boucher married to Placide Girouard. Elizabeth is the daughter of my great grandparents, Placide Boucher of St. Norbert, Kent, NB Canada and Obeline Thibodeau of St. Marie, NB Canada. Elizabeth is the sister of my grandfather, Isadore Charles Boucher who was born in St. Norbert then traveled, settled, and married Josephine Girouard of St. Marie, NB Their children were Loretta, George Louis, my father and Jeannett all whom have passed. My dad passed away Feb. 5, 2010, on the same day his dad Placide was born. I do have some information as I am still trying to find the names of all of my grandfathers sisters and brothers. If you have any information at all I would greatly appreciate it and I would share what I have.

I hope you are still searching, as you can see I am still learning and never noticed you post before. Hope it was of some help.
Regards,
Sheila

Re: MORTON and WILSON, Pine Ridge, Weldford Parish

Yes, these James Wilson's are very confusing. But you are able to track them.

I'm not sure who the James Wilson, born 1847 is on the 1861 census, but the parents in this census are definitely James Wilson (born 1818 Lanark) and Agnes Morton. Maybe he died, and they named a subsequent son James (a common practice)? Or maybe he is an illegitimate grandson? James Wilson, born 18 Mar 1867 at Ford Bank is the son of James Wilson and Agnes Morton. This is supported by his marriage to Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Carruthers and his death certificate in 1938. And while the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses support his birth date, he is not present on the 1871 with James and Agnes (hence, why the illegitimate grandson theory might be plausible). James and Lizze had a least 6 children, to include Colin Carruthers Wilson, Frederick George Wilson, Bertha Agnes Wilson, Gladys Audrey Wilson, James Townsend Wilson, and Grace Margaret Wilson.

James Henry Wilson, born 01 Apr 1878 at Main River, is the son of James Henry Wilson (born 1852 in Kouchiboucquac) and Mary Jane Flanagan. This is supported by his marriage in 1901 to Mina Roberts (who is actually Wilhemina "Mina" Isabella "Bella" Cail - daughter of George Roberts and Mary Ann/Moriah Cail - I believe she was illegitimate), as well as his subsequent marriage in 1952 to Mary Rita Melanson. And there is a late registration of birth at the PANB that also supports this, along with the census records. James and Mina have at least 10 children. The marriage of his parents James Wilson and Mary Jane Flanagan on the 27 Jul 1878 does not list either parties parents. There is an 1861 and 1871 census in Richibucto with Robert and Ellen Wilson, and son James born about 1850 that may be likely suspects. I haven't been able to prove it out though.

Then there is a James Henry Wilson born about 1869 at Harcourt. His parents are William Henry Wilson and Agnes Ward. He can be found on the 1871 and 1881 census with his parents, but I cannot find him after that.

And then there is another James Henry Wilson, born 15 Apr 1877, son of Alexander Wilson and Mary Jane Quinlan. His baptism can be found in the Acadia Drouin records at Ancestry, but from what I can tell he dies at age 4 in Brooklyn, New York.

Hope all those details help alleviate some of the confusion.

Hi Katherine, can you tell me who Charles' mother was? According to the marriage certificate, it was Emma Little, but online trees on Ancestry show her as Emma Glencross. Is this a discrepancy or was she previously married? If the latter is true, which one is her maiden name? Your husband and I would be 4th cousins, sharing the same 3rd great-grandparents in James Carruthers and Elizabeth Wilson. Their son James, who married Elizabeth Thurrott, was my 2nd great-grandfather and your Thomas Carruthers' brother. We'd also be related on the Thurrott side, as my Elizabeth Thurrott was sister to Thomas Carruthers wife, Agnes Thurrott.

I have most of my research online. Here is the URL for your Lizzie Carruthers. If you find any errors, or can help fill in any missing info, please let me know! http://www.caronkin.ca/caron/2301.htm

Thanks!
Laurie

There was a another James Wilson before the youngest child James Wilson???
The youngest James Wilson was my husband's great grandfather who married Elizabeth(Lizzie Carruthers) and spent his life in Kent County, New Brunswick. Why is there no mention of this in the West Branch Days. The author( Aunt Nellie)Eleanor Wilson Graham was James Wilson's daughter in law and married to Townsend Wilson. I would think she of all people would have known. Strange. Too many James Wilsons!!

Katherine Walker
I would concur with Thomas' theory that Robert Beck was the son of William and Isabella Beck. This is further supported by the fact that the 1901 census indicates Robert Beck's birth date as 09 Jul 1814. If you look at the Scotland collection on www.familysearch.org, you can find the baptism record of Robert Beck born 09 Jul 1814 at Lochmaben, Dumfries s/o William Beck and Isobel Jardine.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYMW-48G

If you continue searches for baptisms for other children of William Beck and Isobel Jardine, you'll be able to find a few of Robert's siblings, who can also be found in New Brunswick. i.e. Janet Beck married to George Marsh, born 21 Sep 1818 at Applegarth, Dumfries and William Beck married to Eliza Marsh, born 15 Jul 1824 at Lochmaben, Dumfries.

I am a descendant of Jean Beck from Applegarth, who married David Wilson. Their daughter, Elizabeth, came to New Brunswick with her husband, James Carruthers, so I am very interested in the possible connection!

It is my opinion that the Mrs. Mary Murray mentioned in the post, who married Alexander Morton on 03 Nov 1840 was in fact Alexander's first wife, Mary Barton/Burton. Alexander was only 18 at the time and I cannot find any reference to a wife previous, and doubt their would be, given his age. In 1858, Alexander marries his 2nd wife, Mary Childs. They have a couple more children and move to Vancouver, BC.

There are a few clues to this:

1) The 1881 census has daughter Margaret Graham Morton married to William Barclay living in Restigouche. Ann Barton, seemingly Margaret's aunt, is living with them.

2) At least 1 of Alexander and Mary's children carries the name Barton as a middle name: Robert Barton Morton, born born 17 May 1852 in Restigouche, died 21 Jan 1927 in Vancouver

3) Other children similarly have ancestral surnames as middle names, such as Mary MacMichael Morton born 1841, MacMichael being Alexander's mother's maiden name. John MacTaggart (or Taggart) Morton, MacTaggart being Alexander's maternal grandmother's maiden name.

Hi My name is Jeremie,

While I'm not teaching I like to spend some time to explore the forest for things long forgotten :)

Last year I've started working on a project to document some of the overgrown cemeteries in the province. Trough this site and from my travels I've gathered a fair bit of information and I've begun photographing some of the cemeteries. I'm hoping to put that information online at some point when time allows it. My project suffered a setback last summer when my grandma died. At that time it was to painful to go cemetery hunting.

I'm hoping in the spring to start documenting some of these old overgrown cemeteries again :)

At the moment I'm gathering data and starting to plan out some trips :)

If you have some information on an overgrown abandoned cemetery in the area I would love to here about it :)

I can be reached at jeremielandry@rogers.com

I will reply back but due to my busy schedule it may take a bit :)

Hi Thomas,

Thank you very much for the informaton from the Wellington Parish! I have the info from the Donat Robichaud papers which has helped but will need to go through it again. A lot of speculation could be done throughout and we thought the same thing in regards to Eugenie and Marie Angele being the same person. So far no luck in contacting and getting a response from the descendants of Marie Angele Dugas as she moved to the USA in 1905 and got married and had kids with her new husband. I was hoping to rule her out and then be able to focus on Eugenie.

Philippe Sr. married in the 1930's and had a son Philippe Jr in 1940. Philippe Sr died the same year.

Thanks again. I may ask you a question through ancestry. Hopefully, you won't mind.

I appreciate the help!!!

Marc

Re: Eugenie Melanson/Melancon

In the 1891 census, Eugenie 'Meleson' (14) lived in Wellington Parish, Kent Co., NB. She appears to have been living with Onesime (28) and Rosalie (36) LeBlanc and family but next door was a widower, Pierre Melson (69) with two lodgers, Marie Meleson (32) and 'Marguerit' Meleson (19). Presumably the two ladies were related to Pierre. Marie may have been a daughter and Marguerite (given as a 'Sernent' (servant?)) may have been a granddaughter.
The other side of Pierre was the couple, Jude 'Meleson' (38) and Elizabeth (30).

Jude 'Meleson' b. ca. 1853 is likely 'Judas (or Judes) Melanson' b. Buctouche, Kent Co., NB ca. 1855, d. Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, Kent Co., NB 15SEP1911 age 56 years.

Pierre b. ca. 1822 is likely Pierre Melanson b. Memramcook, Westmorland Co., NB ca. 1822, d. Saint-Pierre-de-Kent 17APR1908 age 96 years.

In Wellington Parish, in 1881, Pierre Melancon (60) and (possibly a 2nd?) wife, 'Henriete' (42) had children: Jude (27), Rosalie (24), Marie (20), Phillippe (son, 18), Marguerite (9), Joseph (15) and Julie (4). There was also, nearby, a Madeleine Melancon (7), living with Antoine and Angel Boudreau.
I think this is misleading. Marguerite (ca. 1859) does not appear to be Marguerite (ca. 1872) in 1881. Marie (ca. 1872 in 1891) does not appear to be Marie (ca. 1861 in 1881). Yet, if you reversed their ages, in one or the other census, it would appear that they were, in fact, the same persons. I would be more inclined to believe that Marguerite and Marie are Pierre's daughters with their birth-dates being in question at this time. Marie, in 1901, was b. 12DEC1860. In 1871 the 'Molonson' family was Pierre (50), Harriet (46) with Jude (19), Rosanna (16), Mary (12), Philip (8) and Joseph (5). So Marguerite appears to have been born after 1871, i.e., ca. 1872. Also with them was "Belloney Casey" (Caissie?) (88), likely Pierre's father-in-law by his (2nd?) marriage.
Rosalie (ca. 1857) appears to be Rosalie LeBlanc (ca. 1855) in 1891, and therefore probably Eugenie's sister. Rosale LeBlanc's death registration (ca. APR1854-30MAY1934) gives her as Onesime M. LeBlanc's wife and as the daughter of Pierre and Marie (Bourque) Melanson. So Henriette, again, is likely Pierre's 2nd wife.
What is annoying is that Eugenie does not appear, unless, of course, she was Julie, born about the same time.
Also in Wellington Parish in 1881 are the families of Thadee (60) and Marguerite (66) Melancon and of André (61) Melancon. They are on the next page from Pierre, so are likely relatives. Another two pages takes us to Thadée (37) and Genevieve (25) Melançon, with amongst their children a Marie (5), possibly Eugenie. A couple of pages further on are Savueur (?) (72) and Marguerite (LeBlanc) (66) Melanson and family.

In Caraquet Parish, Gloucester Co., NB 1901 was the family:

De La Vivetiere Philippe	M	Head	M	Jan 31 1861
De La Vivetiere Marie	F	Wife M	Feb 27 1877
De La Vivetiere Loubet	M	Son S	Feb 15 1901

It would appear that Marie and Eugenie were the same person. Probably she was Marie-Eugenie Melançon. A Phillipe De La Vivetiere died in Hôtel-Dieu-de-St.-Joseph, Tracadie, Saumerez Parish, Gloucester Co., NB 24MAr1840. He was b. Vandôme (Vendôme?), France 23JAN1859 the son of François and Lausance (?) (Pannousse) De La Vivetiere and resided in Bertrand, NB. His wife was Louis Landry. Apparently a different Phillippe (as the one in the marriage record was b. the son of Jos. and Laurence? (Des Meures?) Vivetiere. That they were, in fact, different persons seems very unlikely. 'Phillipe Delavivtiere' (b. Vendôme, France ca. 1859, s/o Alexandre and Laurence (De La Pannouse) De La Vivetiere) m. Caraquet 3APR1934 Louise Landry.

There is a work on-line as a PDF file called, "FICHIER BIOGRAPHIQUE: Copie d’un assortiment de fiches accumulées au cours des nannies" Lettres U -Y. This is compiled by Donat Robichaud 2006. It focuses on families in northern NB. It has a large section of Philippe. One piece is:

"Marie De La Vivetière, née Dugas, wife of Philippe De La Vivetière of parish of Caraquet"

so Marie was apparently his 2nd wife. This is contradicted by the statement:

"(Note: il demeure entre Charles Godin et Ozaire Dugas ---- La femme Marie c’est Marie Melanson, mariés à Shédiac en 1896. Le jeune Philippe ni sa mère n’ont entendu parler de ça. )."

and then again:

"Deed. March 6, 1901. Marie De la Vivetière, née Dugas, Caraquete…"

Since the 1901 census was likely taken after March, 1901, then Marie, in 1901, appears to have been Marie Dugas b. 27FEB1877 d/o Ozaire and Alphonsine Zoé (Légère) Dugas and not Eugenie Melançon.

By JUN1915 Philippe was a widower and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Sussex, NB. It seems that he did not go to France. His attestation papers give him as b. 28JAN1871; but apparently he was less than honest about his age. 28JAN may be the correct date, but 1871 seems a tad unlikely. There is no question but that it is the same person. Philippe is described as about five and a half feet tall and the CEF inductee was 5 feet 3 inches. It is possible that, from about 1919 to 1923 (after WWI) he spent some time in Manitoba.

Apparently a son by his 1st marriage was also Philippe, sent to school in France when age six or seven years and either never returned or lives in Bertrand, NB (the latter being more likely as Robichaud interviewed him). Bertrand also has notes:

this shows that Eugenie was the adopted daughter of Pierre and Rosalie (LeBlanc) Melançon which, frankly, does not make sense as Rosalie (Melançon) seems fairly clearly to have been Pierre's daughter. At this point, I would suspect that Eugenie was Rosalie's daughter. Pierre may have been an 'adoptive' father in the sense of the custom of the time of hiding births by claiming the grandparents were the parents.

Although Philippe is referred to variously as:

"fils de François-Alexandre et de Laurance Pannoussa de Vendôme, France"

or:

"fils majeur de François de la Vivetière et de Laurence Des Meuses, France"

a search for surnames, De la Vivetière or Vivetière in France produced no results. this appears to have been a name adopted by Philippe. This raises the questions as to whether his parents are accurately indicated. A reference to, "The works of Honoré de Balzac" (1799-1850), contains 26 mentions of Vivetière or 'the' Vivetière. In one instance it is "the château of the Vivetière", and apparently refers to a fictitious residence more than a place or surname ("Au château de la Vivetière"). These works appear to be, "The Chouans", and, "The Gondreville Mystery", the first apparent written about 1827. Blazac went to school at Vendôme. Philippe may well have read the work as he was regarded as remarkably well-spoken. There was, in 1787, a Benoit Marsollier Des Vivetiere (Benoît-Joseph Marsollier, seigneur des Vivetières, 1750-1817). I cannot find that anyone else styled themselves "des Vivetières" and rather suspect that it may have been an affectation or a Napoleonic title considering the (rarely used) "seigneur" part. Not much seems known about Benoît-Joseph Marsollier and I cannot find a clear biography. The "seigneur des Vivetières" part may actually be an error referring to a spelunker, "Marsolier (sic), seigneur de Vivetières" in 1780 who actually was Louis Marsolliers.

All-in-all, very tricky. I could possibly speculate more but that is all it would be, Speculation.

Thomas

Hello,

I wish to get more genealogical information on Mary Ann Hanley, first married to John Carmichael (October 4th, 1858), and 2nd marriage with John Breau, October 2nd, 1872, in Kouchibouguac. The parish register has no indication on John Breau and Mary Ann Hanley parents. It's believe that the above John Breau father was Anselme Breau, who married Madeleine Vautour.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Robert Richard
Dieppe NB Canada
(506) 383-9004
robrichard@bellaliant.net
Maybe even find an unknown second cousin who can shed some light. I mean to send you an e-mail, but this is the busy season at my job.
were you interested in any further info on the line back thru Henry Isaier Warren.do you have the dates for maude's gr-grandparents, ( Henry's parents)? I have some info on them if you are searching back that far..
(my line descends from Henry's brother George Warren). they were born in Prince Edward island. Henry had 5 brothers, 1 sister. it's sort of ironic, I started doing this because I wanted to learn about a grandmother I never knew, she died when my dad was a little boy..& the searching led me all the way back to Wales.
Thanks so much for this. Maude Warren was my great grandmother. She moved to the Boston, Massachusetts area sometime after 1910, and lived there until she died on 12/12/1960, in the home of her lifelong friend, Ella Usher, about whom I know almost nothing. Maude had one daughter, Florence Sabean (nee Warren), my grandmother. It seems that she was likely named after Florence Jane, who was her cousin and likely childhood playmate.

Per PANB:

Florence Jane Warren born 15 May 1890 at Mortimer, Kent
d/o William Warren and Annie Woods. Florence marries Patrick James Keenan in 1912 at Northumberland County.

I cannot see Maggie's birth, but she married Jeremiah Handley in 1904 at Northumberland County.

William and Annie had several more children in Northumberland. I believe Annie died in 1912 and William died in 1914, both at Northumberland. I cannot find a marriage, but if you walk back a couple of censuses, you'll find William and George in 1871 in Harcourt, sons of Henry and Elizabeth Warren.

George Warren and Martha Lamb married in 1888 at Kent County. Record can be found on Ancestry and it does list Henry and Elizabeth as parents. Thus, George and William are definitely brothers. Many of the births of George and Martha's children can be found at the PANB. George and Martha stay in Kent County. I believe George dies in 1944 - you can see a death record at the PANB, but his brother, Ebenezer, who was the informant, didn't provide any info on the parents. You only know this is George, because you find brother Ebenezer on the 1871 census as well.

Hope that helps...

Nope, not connected to the Murray's except that George Murray was, supposedly, from Dumfriesshire, Scotland; so there may be a very distant kinship.

A quick look of George's family, which may or may not be useful, follows.

Thomas

GEORGE MURRAY b. Scotland ca. 1806, m. Richibucto, Kent Co., NB 27JUN1838 FRANCES (FANNY) MARSH (b. England ca. 1817).
In Weldford Parish, in 1881, the households of James Murray (36) and of 'Willim' (37) and Amanda (34) Murray were listed next to each other. With James were Mary (27) and David (23) and a widow, 'Fanie' Murray (64), presumably their mother. I do not find a comparable person in the 1871 census, nor, in 1881, do I find William Robert Peck; although he is in Kent Co., in 1882.
There was, in Weldford Parish in 1861 a Frances Murray b. England ca. 1816. There was also a George b. Scotland ca. 1806, presumably her husband. When George Murray married Frances Marsh both were of Weldford Parish. This suggests the Murray's and Beck's may have been connected as Janet Beck m. Richibucto 3AUG1835 George Marsh. William Beck m. 28AUG1849 Eliza Marsh; both of Weldford Parish.
A Mrs. Mary Murray (b. ca. 1818, d. 5JUN1857 age 39 years) of Weldford Parish m. Richibucto 3NOV1840 Alexander Morton. Possibly the Alexander Morton (b. 1822) who m. 1st Mary Burton.
Children:
1. JOHN MURRAY.
2. WILLIAM MURRAY b. ca. 1845, m. AMANDA _____ (b. ca. 1847).
3. JAMES MURRAY b. Molus River, Kent Co., NB 17JAN1844 (ca. 1845), d. Kouchibouguac, Carleton Parish, Kent Co., NB 15FEB1947 age 83 years.
4. MARGARET MURRAY.
5. daughter.
6. daughter.
7. MARY MURRAY b. ca. 1851-4, m. at her father's home, Molus River, Kent Co., NB 2AUG1882 WILLIAM ROBERT BECK (b. ca. 1854), s/o Robert and Elizabeth (McDougall) Beck..
Next door to William's family, in Weldford Parish, Kent Co., NB in 1871, was that of William (26) and Amanda (24) Murray. On the other side was the family of James (26) Murray. This suggests a fair-sized family in Weldford Parish. James' family appears to consist of his siblings, Mary (20), Eliza (18), Ann (16) and David (14). When married, Mary was the 4th daughter of George Murray. Presumably William, James and James' siblings were also children of George Murray. James and family were 'Scotch'. There was also a widow, Catherine Murray (b. Ireland ca. 1801) living with Robert (31) Kinsilla and his brothers. There were other Murray's in the parish in 1871 as well, so some care needs to be taken in assuming relationships.
Children:
71. NINA BECK b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 10FEB1887.
72. FANNY ELIZABETH BECK b. Kent Co., NB 12APR1889.
73. ELEANOR BECK b. Mortimre ('Mortimer'), Kent Co., NB 21MAR1891.
74. ANNIE MAY BECK b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 10APR1893.
8. ELIZA MURRAY b. ca. 1853.
9. ANN MURRAY b. ca. 1855, m. ALBERT EDWARD POWELL.
J. DAVID MURRAY b. ca. 1857-8, d. Kouchibouguac, Carleton Parish, Kent Co., NB 26AUG1889 age 32 years.
I need to contact the Thomasamurray1 who posted this info.. several members of my family dovetail into some of people. i can't quite get the connection from the William Beck/Mary Murray, who were the aunt & uncle of my grandmother..I've been searching for info to connect this for quite some time. I'm familiar with the descendants of the Wellesley Beck family...in the last generation, there are 2 sons living in N.B. and a daughter here in Ontario..please contact me at grandma_dg@hotmail.com....
If you are a descendant of the family which included the Mary Murray ( married to William Beck).. then you are a descendant of the Murray family which included my grandmother, Frances Marsh Powell ( Fanny).. daughter of Albert Powell & Anne Murray, sister of Mary. who lived in harcourt with her Aunt Mary & Uncle william after the death of all her immediate family members..also, my grandmother Nina Wilson was part of the James & Agnes Wilson family... so you've touched on both my parent's mothers. I would like to talk further, & know more about the Murray family.. Also.. I grew up & went to school with Wellesley Beck's grandchildren in Harcourt..
Thanks for the info,Thomas. This does seem to correspond w/what I have already researched, and it's surprising to find that Robert had actually been married three times, not two.Kudos too on deciphering Edward's father's name on his marriage certificate w/Elizabeth-that was tough for me to read.I'll take a closer look at what you have given me.-Sarah

Re: Robert Beck

ROBERT BECK b. Scotland 9JUL1814 (ca. 1814-5), d. Mortimore, Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 11JUL1904 age 90 years, m. 1st ELIZABETH McDOUGALL (b. ca. 1824, d. 12OCT1864 age 40 years, buried St. Andrew's Cemetery, Rexton, Kent Co., NB); m. 2nd ISABELLA MORRELL (b. PEI ca. 1844); m. 3rd MARGARET E. LEET (LEAT) (b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 16MAR1834 (ca. 1834-5), d. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 11JUN1909 age 75 years, buried St. Andrew's Cemetery, Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB).
In Weldford Parish, Kent Co., NB in 1871, Isabella seems to have been Robert's 2nd wife judging from her age and the ages of some of the children. The name, David H. (2), is written in after her name and crossed out. Possibly this refers to a recently deceased child. I have included David as a child on speculation.
I do see signs of a Morrel/Morrell family especially in the Summerside-Bedeque area of PEI. For example, in Bedeque in Lot 26, in 1864, were George Morrell and John Morrel. There is also mention of a Nathaniel and Susan Ann Morrell who had a son, John Ashton Morrell, b. 1873, who married a Silliker from Bedeque. The family appears to have originated with William Morrell and Jane Crossman.
In 1879, Fowler Robert Wesley Beck was b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 11OCT1879 to Robert Beck and Margaret Leat. So, if Robert was the Robert b. 1815, Margaret is likely a 3rd wife.
Elizabeth Beck b. West Branch, Kent Co., NB ca. 1894, m. Samuel Horton (b. Pine Ridge, Weldford Parish, Kent Co., NB ca. 1887), s/o John and Margaret (Wilson) Horton. She was a daughter of James and Flora Beck. The Horton's, by the way, are likely descended from a Loyalist family originating with an early, colonial family in the Southampton area of Long Island, New York.
Elizabeth Beck b. Weldford Parish ca. 1872, m. Isaac Horton, was, in her marriage record, a daughter of Isabella Morrell and Robert Beck. The same record has Isaac Horton born 'Mirimichi', which, I believe, refers either to Glenelg Parish and/or Hardwicke Parish in Northumberland Co., NB where I would anticipate finding Horton's. Isaac is given as age 44 years when he married Elizabeth, but I would suspect he was the Isaac Horton age 40 in Weldford Parish in 1871, so he may have been b. ca. 1831. In 1871, his wife was Elizabeth (30).
Although, on the marriage record, Isaac Horton gives his father as William Horton, elsewhere, such as:
http://ctclocksandtime.com/Trees/Personal/MyGed/gp1526.htm
his parents are James George and Mary Alice (Grumble) Horton. James George Horton is given as coming from Hardwicke Parish, so the Loyalist family is likely indicated. Contradicting this is the information at:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...
Where Isaac is the s/o William and Elizabeth (Dutcher) Horton. Considering the fact that Isaac stated his father was William, this seems more likely. William is given as the s/o James Horton, the Loyalist I mentioned. James was the s/o Sarah Budd, descended from John Budd, hence my vague recognition of the name as John Budd was also my ancestor by a different line which, coincidentally, includes the Silliker's in Bedeque.
In Harcourt Parish, in 1881, Robert Beck (66) and Margaret (46) have children Andrew H. (3) and Robert W. (6 months). Then is listed Elizabeth Wellwood (13) apperantly unrelated; and then Alfred (10) and Elizabeth (9) Beck. This would suggest that Alfred and Elizabeth were children by Robert's 2nd marriage. Elizabeth's mother, therefore, is most likely Isabella Morrell. When James William Beck died, his mother was given as Mary Morrell
Robert (77) and Margaret E. (56) Beck are in Harcourt Parish in 1891. With them are Alfred, Andrew H. and Robert W. Margaret was b. NB, her father was b. NS and her mother was b. England. Robert and his parents were b. Scotland.
I suspect that Robert was a s/o:

BECK, William died Dec 31 1850 aged 71
native of Scotland
his wife
BECK, Isabella died Jan 18 1868 aged 87

buried in St. Mark's Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Bass River, Kent Co., NB. A William Beck m. Weldford Parish 28AUG1848 Mary Marsh. Whether this was a brother of Robert's, or the elder William in a 2nd marriage is not clear. It seems likely that these were Robert's parents as William Beck and Isobell Jardine had a son, Robert Beck, baptized in Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland 17JUL1814. Robert was b. 9JUL1814 which nicely matches his date-of-birth in the 1901 census.

Children:
1st:
1. WILLIAM ROBERT BECK b. ca. 1854, m. MARY MURRAY.
2. ALEXANDER BECK b. ca. 1856.
3. JOHN BECK b. ca. 1857-8, m. PHOEBE _____ (b. ca. 1843).
4. GEORGE BECK b. ca. 1860.
5. CATHERINE BECK b. ca. 1862.
2nd:
6. JAMES WILLIAM BECK b. 23DEC1864 (ca. 1866, DEC1865 in 1911), d. 13JUL1948, buried West Branch Presbyterian Cemetery, Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB, m. FLORA M. WILSON (b. 31AUG1866, d. 23JUN1947), d/o James and Agnes (Morton) Wilson.
7. ISAAC BECK b. ca. 1868.
Possibly the James William Beck.
8. DAVID H. BECK b. ca. 1869.
9. ALFRED BECK b. ca. 1870-1.
J. ELIZABETH LOUISE BECK b. Molus River, Weldford Parish, Kent Co., NB 30MAY1872 (ca. 1872, 31MAY1873 in 1901, MAY1872 in 1911), d. Clarendon, Petersville Parish, Queens Co., NB 26MAY1949 age 76 years, 11 months and 26 days, m. 1st Weldford Parish, Kent Co., NB 8MAY1891 ISAAC HORTON (b. Miramichi Region, Northumberland Co., NB 21JAN1829 (ca. 1827-3, (ca. 1831-47?), age 40 in 1871), d. Mortimore (Mortimer?), Weldford Parish, Kent Co., NB 14MAR1892 age 65 years; m. 1st Elizabeth _____), s/o William and Elizabeth (Dutcher) Horton; m. 2nd Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 19DEC1896 EDWARD WHEATON (b. Lower Sackville (Westmorland Co.?), NB 28NOV1869 (ca. 1865-70); m. 1st Millie _____), s/o Cypreau (Cyrian?, Cypress?, Cyphren?) and Elizabeth (Hinton) Wheaton.
Although, in their marriage record, Edward Wheaton is given as a s/o Cyprian and Elizabeth (Hinton) Wheaton, he appears to have been, in Harcourt Parish, a few households from the Beck's, Edgar ('Edger') C. Wheaton (b. ca. 1871), s/o Cyprian and Sarah Ann Wheaton.
Isaac, in Weldford Parish in 1891, gives himself as age 45 years. This rather confuses the issue as to his birth-date. Elizabeth is age 19, and gives her father as b. Scotland and her mother as b. NB. This confuses the issue of her mother's birth-place. I cannot find that they had any children with them. Nearby is Edward 'Wheton' (35) with a wife, Millie (27). Meanwhile, next to the Beck's, is Cypress Wheaton (40) and his wife, Fanny (25), apparently a 2nd wife.
By 1948, Elizabeth lived in Clarendon Station, Queens Co., NB. In 1901 they lived in Westfield Parish, Kings Co., NB. Birth-dates in 1901 are extremely unreliable. By 1911 they were in Petersville Parish, Queens Co., NB.
Children:
1st:
J1. THOMAS HAVELOCK HORTON (WHEATON) b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 21JUN1890 or 21JUN1891 (21JUN1889 in 1901, JUN1890 in 1911).
Isaac's wife, Elizabeth Louise Bell, seems to have been alive as late as JUN1890 when she gave birth to a son, Thomas Havelock Horton. A separate record make the mother to have been Elizabeth L. Beck. A third record gives Thomas Havelock 'Heston' b. 21JUN1891, s/o Isaac and Elizabeth L. (Beck) 'Heston'. Since Elizabeth's daughter's (Annie) birth record gives her mother as Elizabeth Louise Beck I assume that 'Elizabeth Louise Bell' is, in fact, Elizabeth Beck. Isaac's wife, in 1871, was Elizabeth b. ca. 1841.
2nd:
J2. ARTHUR MAXWELL (MAX) WHEATON b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 17FEB1895 (17FEB1896 in 1901).
J3. ROBERT W. WHEATON b. 27DEC1897.
J4. CHARLES EDWARD WHEATON b. 7APR1899.
J5. AMELIA WHEATON b. OCT1901.
J6. ALFRED H. WHEATON b. OCT1903.
J7. ELIZABETH ANNE (ANNIE ELIZABETH) WHEATON b. Nerepsis, Queens Co., NB 16MAY1907 (APR1907 in 1911).
J8. GEORGE HENRY WHEATON b. Clarendon Station (Blagdon), Petersville Parish, NB 25APR1909, m. Petersville Parish, Queens Co, NB 6SEP1937 IRENE FRANCES KUPKEE.
J9. ROY IRVEN WHEATON b. Clarendon Station, Petersville Parish, NB 28APR1912.
3rd:
K. ANDREW H. BECK b. 16APR1878 (ca. 1878-9).
L. ROBERT WESLEY (WELLESLEY) FOWLER (FOWLER ROBERT WESLEY) BECK b. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 11OCT1879 (5JAN1880 in 1901, ca. 1881, OCT1881 in 1911 and ca. OCT1880 in 1881, 11OCT1878 in death registration), d. Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 27MAY1955, buried St. Matthew's Anglican Church Cemetery, Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NBm. MARY (MINNIE) FLORENCE McCARTY/McCARTHY (b. Mortimore, Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB 11OCT1880 (DEC1883 in 1911), d. 26SEP1918 age 38 years); m. 2nd BLANCHE SPENCER (b. 1902, d. 1969, buried St. Andrew's Cemetery, Harcourt Parish, Kent Co., NB).
In 1901, Robert, as well as his parents and a brother, Andrew H. Beck, has in his household Andrew P. Beck b. 25DEC1883, listed as both a son and a brother. In 1911, Andrew P. is given as b. DEC1899, which seems more likely, and he was probably Robert W.'s son. 25DEC1883 may have been Mary's actual birth-date as, in 1911, she was b. DEC1883.

Thomas.
My husband's paternal grandfather was Frederick Thurrott the name of his father is unknown, it is suspected that Thomas Carruthers was his father, also Thomas Cail was named as Frederick's father. Have you done dna testing for the Thomas Carruthers line since you are a descendent of Thomas Carruthers and Agnes Thurrott, we do not know a lot about dna testing, do you know by having the test will it prove who Frederick's father was? My husband said he would consider having the dna test done to know once and for all who his grandfather father was. We hope to hear from you. Thanks

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows where to look to find birth records for Weld, Kent, New Brunswick? I am trying to find the birth record for Daniel Stewart. His death record gives his date of birth as 8/8/1869. I have looked on FamilySearch and Ancestry and wondering where else I might look? I did find his parents marriage records in Weld in 1860 on FamilySearch.

thanks, Lisa

It's wonderful to meet family you've never met before, isn't it? :) If I'm not mistaken, this would make you my 1st cousin 2x removed (don't quote me on that, though; I'm often terrible with all that cousin stuff, and getting it right without a computer and complete data).

I've already sent you an invitation to be a guest viewer of my family tree here on Ancestry. I think you might find it interesting.

Let me know if you have questions.

Yes, we are related. My grandfather was Henry Clee and grandmother Margaret "Maggie" Campbell from Bass River NB. My great grandfather was Benjamin Clee of Knighton, Wales but born in Ludlow, Shropshire, England. Henry came to Canada with brothers Richard and Alfred, and settled in Russell, Manatoba. Henry & Margaret had 8 children most of whom are still in Canada. My mother was Muriel Clee and had sisters Augusta Clee Campbell, and Margaret Clee Ekstrom, and brothers, Clifford, Harold, Jack, Gordon and Alfred. Muriel became a nurse, married and settled in Detroit MI.

Campbell side: The family originated in Scotland and came to PEI. Duncan, John, and William Campbell came from PEI and went Bass River NB. John and William Campbell married 2 sisters Harriet and Maria (or Mary Jane) Wilt on December 1835 in Bass River. Margaret decended from Maria/Mary Jane. I believe some Campbells may have gone to Maine. At age 16 Margaret was a nanny for a minister who brought his family by covered wagon from NB to Manitoba.
