In his travells in New Brunswick 1791 to 1792 Peter Campbell mentiones that while travelling down the Southwest Miramichi River his exploration party arrived at a house built by a set of wood cutters employed by a Mr. Fraser merchant on the river, where the small river ( thought to be the Cains ) falls into the Miramichi. The two brothers were John and George McGregor whom Cambell employed to nagivate his party further down the river as both brothers were well acquainted with the navigation and fisheries on the river.
